On the Farm - another SAB and Mini Catalogue Sneak Peak

When my parents and I emigrated to Canada we spent the first few years on a farm.  I have many fond memories of the cows, and the chickens but not the other animals. The community I live in now is surrounded by farm land.  When I saw this "On the Farm" bundle being demonstrated at On Stage in Vancouver in November, I knew I had to buy it.

The stamp and coordinating die set "On the farm" is in the new Mini catalogue which goes live next month; the "Day at the Farm" DSP is a free selection from the Sale-a-bration catalogue.

Many of the animals, flowers and trees can be die cut directly from the DSP using the coordinating dies.

To best display all the different animals, I chose to make a 5 1/2 by 5 1/2" pop up card.

The sentiment is from “Itty Bitty Birthday Wishes”1

Check out my blog post of Nov 7 for dimensions of the internal pop up mechanisms. Sentiment on the inside from “ Something Fancy” another Mini Catalogue offering.

Peaceful Season Hand Stamped Sentiment #374

This card was made for the sketch challenge with Hand Stamped Sentiments #374

I used one of my favourite stamp sets - Peaceful Cabin,  with its coordinating DSP  "Peaceful Place DSP"

The colour scheme of this card is monochromatic - mainly tones of Black, Gray and White.

The card base of Basic Gray is matted with a Silver Foil layer (with the middle section die cut which was used for the center).  On top of that was added a layer of DSP which reminds me of rain running down a window pane.

The focal image in the center is the die cut silver foil upon which is layered a Basic Gray layer, followed by a piece of DSP which depicts rows of trees, Across this DSP layer, near the bottom, is added a 2" strip of DSP (faint polka dots) with narrow strips of check pattern DSP at the top and bottom of this horizontal piece.

Above this horizontal strip is added 2  die cut foxes.

The sentiment, from the Peaceful Cabin stamp set, is stamped with Basic Gray ink and die cut with a layering circle die.  It is added to the focal image using dimensionals.

The finished focal image is added to the card front using dimensionals.

To finish the card, three elegant Faceted dots were added to the card front

The finished card looks almost like a framed picture.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Peaceful Cabin
Ink:  Basic Gray
Papers:  Basic Gray, Silver Foil, Peaceful Place DSP, Basic White
Accessories:  Cabin Dies, Layering Circle dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Dimensionals, Elegant Faceted dots,

Corner Bouquet - a Valentine Card

I started using the Corner Bouquet SAB stamp set to make an Anniversary card, but somewhere along the way, my card, having a mind of its own, became a Valentine card.

The stamp set has 2 sizes of bouquets - a larger one, and a smaller one.

The larger of the bouquets was embossed with gold embossing powder in the lower left corner, with the smaller one in the opposite upper right. This art piece was then die cut with the Stitched Rectangle die.

In between I placed the sentiment "Love" which was die cut with gold foil and adhered to its Basic Black shadow die. Below it was the rest of the sentiment, embossed in gold on Basic Black card stock.

To go along with the Valentine theme, I added some hearts in black, red and gold scattered above and below the sentiment.

This art piece was then matted with Gold Foil and then it was added to a a piece of Basic Black card stock also die cut with the Stitched Rectangle die. These 2 pieces were off set from each other and then off set again before being added to the Real Red card stock base.

In the inside, a Whisper White layer matted with Basic Black.  The smaller bouquet was also embossed in the upper right corner, and some hearts in the 3 colours were added in two of the corner.

Supplies Used:

Stamps: Always and Forever, Meant To Be, Corner Bouquet

Inks: Versa Mark

Papers:  Real Red, Basic Black, Gold Foil, Whisper White

Accessories:  Always Die, Gold Twine, Gold Embossing powder, Meant to Be die, Stitched Rectangle Dies

Lilypad Lake Sail boats on a Choppy Lake

Anyone who owns a sail boat is itching to get on the water and go for a sail.  However, the month of May this year has been anything but cooperative, with record low temperatures, even snow flurries. Despite that some brave souls do venture out for a sail,

The card front is in 3 layers. In order to create the matted frame look, the top 2 layers are die cut with the Stitched Rectangle dies, the Whisper White layer smaller than the Balmy Blue layer.

The scene is created on the 3rd layer, which has the same dimensions as the first two layers.

The sun was masked out while a brayer was used to colour the sky and water - the sky in Balmy Blue, the water in Pool Party with some Pacific Point ink.  After the mask was removed, the sun was coloured with Daffodil Delight ink, after which a wind cloud was created covering part of the sun and sky.

Some Pacific Point ink was applied to the lake water using the water stamp.  Then I made the water look choppy by adding glitter embossing paste randomly over the water

After colouring the sail boats with Stampin' Blends, they were die cut using the Lakeside die. They were arranged on the lake as shown.

Once the 3 layers of the front were completed, they were added to a Balmy Blue card base and the bottom corners were decorated with die cut grass.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Lilypad Lake, Sailing home
Inks:  Daffodil Delight, Balmy Blue, Basic Gray, Pool Party, Pacific Point, Stampin' Blends (Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Night of navy, Balmy Blue)
Papers:  Balmy Blue, Whisper White, Garden Green, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories:  Stitched Rectangle dies, Lakeside dies, Glitter embossing paste

Double Sided See Through Shaker Card - Try Stampin' on Tuesday #456

I made this shaker card for the sketch challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday  where I had the option to do the sketch challenge or make a shaker using the sketch - so I did both.

However, I did something I had not done before - I made a double sided see through shaker card.  Both the front and the back of the card have a see through window, with the back flap of the card becoming the actual shaker unit.

The Poppy Parade base card is a 4 1/4 by 5 1/2" side fold card, with rectangle apertures die cut and covered by window sheets, in  the middle of both the front and back. This allows you to see through the card from the front to the back - like open concept.

Back of card

Two extra pieces of  Poppy Parade card stock 1/8" smaller than usual i.e. 3 7/8 by 5 1/8" also have rectangles die cut in the center.  The rectangular opening in the front is used as a template for these two extra pieces to ensure the "open concept" is carried through exactly the same in all layers.

After the window sheet is adhered to the wrong side of the card front, the second card stock piece is adhered over it to hide it.

A window sheet is also adhered to the second smaller piece of card stock, as well as the back of the card base.  The shaker unit, with Poppy shaker elements, is created on the back flap of the card base and the second smaller piece of Poppy Parade card stock is added over the back piece to complete this unit.

The Tropical Oasis DSP also has a rectangle die cut with the stitched rectangle die, with a larger die and adhered to the card front. The card front is decorated with 3 flowers from the Timeless Tropical stamp set.  Each of these are coloured with Grapefruit Grove, So Saffron, with Cherry Cobbler in the center. After shaping, they are adhered to a 1 1/4" circle punch and added to the lower right frame.  Another 1 1/4" punched circle is also added to the inside to hide the flowers showing through the window sheet. Three hand cut sponged leaves added to the flowers complete the floral decoration.  Early Espresso stamens and gold prills are added to the center of each bloom.

A die cut tag from Ornate frame dies, with the word 'thanks' stamped in it, is added to the flower.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Time Tropical
Inks:  Black Memento, Grapefruit Grove, So Saffron, Granny Apple Green
Papers:  Poppy Parade, Whisper White, Timeless Tropical DSP, Granny Apple Green
Accessories:  Window Sheets, Stitched Rectangle Dies, Tropical Oasis dies, Gold Prills (non SU), Poppy shaker elements, Ornate framed die, 1 1/4" circle punch.

A Good Man has a Barbecue

It's almost BBQ weather, but not quite.  Although most of the snow is gone it's still quite cool and by all accounts winter has not loosened its tight grip.

For this masculine card, I decided to combine two stamp sets:  "A Good Man" and "Outdoor Barbecue" and feature a new background technique using vellum and Stampin' Blends.  A tutorial on the Vellum background and Stampin' Blends will be on a separate post.

All layers of this card were die cut using the stitched rectangle dies.

Both images from separate stamp sets were coloured with a combination of watercolour pencils and Stampin' Blends.  The guy in the lounge chair, with a bottle of ketchup (yup not beer) on the ground beside the chair, is from "A Good Man"; the barbecue is from "Outdoor Barbecue". Some Crystal Effects is added to the Barbecue to give it more of a metallic appearance. The hamburger, flame, and bottle of ketchup were stamped on a separate piece of Whisper White card stock and fussy cut.

The image piece is matted with Bermuda Bay card stock, and before adding it to the card front with dimensionals, some glitter Bermuda Bay Baker's twine (SAB) was wrapped around one end.

Whisper White card stock embossed with the Hexagon embossing folder is added to the Bermuda Bay card base.  A 2 1/4" piece of the Vellum created using Stampin' Blends is added to the embossed Whisper White. A tutorial on how to create this Vellum background will be posted separately.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  A Good Man, Outdoor Barbecue
Inks:  Black Memento, Watercolour pencils, Stampin' Blends (Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Mango Melody) SU Markers (Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight)
Papers:  Bermuda Bay, Whisper White, Vellum background
Accessories: Stitched rectangle dies, Blender pen, Crystal Effects, Dimensionals, Hexagon embossing folder.

Flowering Foil Card with Fun Folds

Today I challenged myself to design some cards using the Flowering foil DSP, a new second release SAB offering , free with a $60 purchase.

I had not been feeling well since a minor surgical procedure a couple of days ago.  Yesterday I felt well enough to colour some of the flowers on one of the 12 by 12 sheets.  Some  I  coloured  with Stampin' Blends, others were coloured with ink and  an aqua painter.  I must admit I prefer the ones coloured with the aqua painter.

After coloring them, both the single and double flowers were fussy cut.  Because the DSP is a bit flimsy I reinforced them by adding some punched card stock on the back before I added them to a card.

Here's the 3 cards I made

Card #1 Frame Card:

The base for this card is Thick Whisper White, layered with Whisper White embossed with the Layered Leaf embossing folder.  A frame made by die cutting 2 different sizes of the Stitched Rectangle dies, was added to the embossed layer using dimensionals.

A fussy cut flower which was coloured with ink and an aqua painter was adhered , with dimentionals, to the top left corner of the inside embossed layer slightly overlapping the frame.

Some dazzling diamonds was added to the center of the flower.

The sentiment, stamped with Rich Razzelberry ink, was punched with the  Pretty Label  punch. and adhered to a  piece of copper foil punched with the Label Me Lovely Punch with dimensionals.  Using the Detailed Trio Punch, notches were punched at both ends of this Pretty Label punchie so a piece of 1/4" metallic edged Rich Razzelberry ribbon could be added to the card front. This sentiment unit was added to the card front using dimensionals.

Stamp:  Tags in Bloom (SAB)
Inks:  Rich Razzelberry, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive
Papers:  Whisper White, Thick Whisper White, Flowering Foil DSP, Copper Foil
Accessories:  Aqua painter,  Stitched Rectangle dies, Layering Leaves Embossing Folder, `1/4" Metallic edged Rich Razzelberry ribbon, Dimensionals, Dazzling Diamonds, Detailed Trio Punch, Label Me Lovely Punch, Pretty Label Punch

Card #2  Wallet Card

I call this card fold a wallet card  or a gift card holder card. The top half of the card folds down over a bottom fold which is made into a pocket which contains a pull out greeting card. The top flap is kept closed with a mini magnet.

The card base of Thick Whisper White card stock is 5 1/2 by 9 3/4 scored at 3 and 7 1/4". The top and bottom corners are rounded using Detailed Trio punch.

Two patterns of the DSP were used; the grid pattern on the top fold; the small flowers on the lower flap.  Both are matted with copper foil before being added to the card base.

A bit of tombo on the edges of the bottom flap and the flap is formed.

.A piece of Whisper White card stock 3 1/2 by  4 7/8",   for the written message, is inserted in this flap.  After taking this picture I added a tab to the top making it easier to access.

Decorating the top flap is a double flower, which has been adhered at an angle, with part of the flower extending over the end.  This flower is also coloured using inks and an aqua painter. Dazzling diamonds are added to the flower center.

The grid paper below the fussy cut flower is sponged with Rich Razzelberry ink to create a bit more interest.

The flap is kept closed with tiny magnets one of which you can see on the picture above.  You can also use velcro if you don't have magnets.

Two metallic design elements decorate the left upper flap.

I have not added any sentiments on this card as I wanted to leave my options open.

Card #3 - Another wallet card, but in blue

The fold on this card is the same as card #2, but the colour scheme is Bermada Bay and White with an accent of Copper.

Added to the edge of the top flap is some copper foil die cut with the Delicate Lace Die.

The DSP on the top has tiny copper foil flowers which were coloured with Bermuda Bay ink using a dauber.  Two large fussy cut flowers with their backs reinforced with circle card stock punchies are added to a Stitched So Sweetly die cut embossed with the Subtle Texture embossing folder.  The flowers, coloured with Bermuda Bay ink and an aqua painter, slightly overlap each other.

Some Bermuda Bay card stock embossed with the Layering Leaves Embossing Folder is added to the bottom flap.

The card is also kept closed with mini magnets.

Again no sentiments.  They will be added later.

The corners of the insert are punched with the Detailed Trio Punch, rounded first, and then punched with that lovely floral pattern.  On the bottom is added a flower fussy cut from the edge of the DSP and a tab at the top.

Supplies Used:

Inks: Bermuda Bay, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight

Papers:  Thick Whisper White, Whisper White, Bermuda Bay, Flowering Foil DSP

Accessories:  Sweetly Stitched Dies, Delicate Lace Die, Subtle Texture Embossing Folder, Detailed Trio Punch, Circle tab punch, Layering Leaves Embossing Folder, Dazzling Diamonds, Aqua Painter, Mini Magnets

Triple Fold Out Card with Beautiful Memories

Today the sun was shining and the snow was melting.  It's not yet spring, but it sure feels like it. In another week the clocks will go back and the days will be longer  Spring officially arrives on March 21. These warmer weather conditions inspired me to play with the Beautiful Memories stamp set, because the images remind me of warm summer days spent at the beach.

Plus I felt like watercoloring and these images are perfect for this.

I have seen the triple fold out card on Pinterest and Jan Brown, a UK demonstrator, did a video on this fold. I decided to use this fold to showcase all the images in one card.

Since the images reflect a day at the beach, I wanted the colours to be soft, and muted.  So I chose Mint Macaron for the card base and matting, with Garden Lane as the coordinating DSP.

All the images were stamped on Whisper White card stock and coloured with SU Markers and an Aquapainter in order to obtain the soft watercolor effect I was looking for.The images were  either die cut with the Stitched Rectangle die of the Sweetly Stitched Die.

Once finished, the folds are kept closed with 1/4" Mint Macaron textile ribbon which is adhered to the top of the A2 card, and inserted under the top panel before being tied at the side.  In future card with this fold this ribbon would be wrapped around the folds only.  See below.

The triple folds are adhered to the top of a regular A2 card which is also made using Mint Macaron with Garden Lane DSP.

Open the first fold and the first image is revealed. This image is die cut using Stitched Rectangle die

The next opened fold reveals these sweet children holding pails ready to make sand castles. Stitched So Sweetly die used here

The Four Panel card is open.

The last fold reveals an image that invokes an emotional response in myself. Stitched So Sweetly die also used to die cut this image.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Beautiful Memories
Inks:  Black Memento, SU Markers of various colours
Papers:  Mint Macaron, Whisper White, Garden Lane DSP
Accessories:  1/4" Mint Macaron textile ribbon, Stitched Rectangle die, Stitched So Sweetly dies, Dimensionals, Aquapainter

Floral Essence Thank You Notes

These are Thank You notes made using the Floral Essence stamp set with the sentiment from Peaceful Moments.
All are stamped on Whisper White card stock with the image inside a rectangular embossed frame. A different colour of ink was used for the flower of each card. The image piece was matted with a similar colour of card stock or DSP. The frame is embossed with the Stitched So Sweetly Die using the embossing mats.

Centers of flowers filled with Black or Gold Prills

Colours of Rhinestones used were as close as possible to the ink colour.  In some instances they were coloured with Stampin' Blends.

Card 1:
Inks:  Poppy Parade, Mossy Meadow, Black Memento

Card 2:

Ink:  Blueberry Bushel, Mossy Meadow.  Matted with Blueberry Bushel DSP

Card 3:

Ink:  Rich Razzelberry, Mossy Meadow.  Image matted with Peaceful Poppy DSP

Card 4:

Inks:  Blackberry Bliss, matted with Blackberry Bliss card stock

These note cards came together very quickly so would be ideal for mass production

A Spring Flower for SUO Challenges #241

This week the theme at SUO Challenges is "Flowers".  I love flowers, any flower, paper, or real.  I love them all.

And I particularly like the flower for this card, the crocus. This bulb flower sticks its head above the ground while the snow is still on the ground. This is a welcome sight after a long Canadian winter.

Although the sentiment on this card is an Easter one, it could be a birthday, anniversary or even a sympathy card.

This one layer card in Whisper White card stock, is made elegant by the stitched embossed rectangular frame in the center.  This frame was made using the Stitched Rectangle Die using the Stampin' Up embossing mat and the Big Shot.

The flower was stamped inside this frame and coloured with light and dark Mango Melody Stampin' Blends.  The leaves and stems were coloured with a Granny Apple Green marker.   A blue wash  around the flowers made them stand out a bit more.

Then another embossed frame, centered in the rectangle frame, was made around the flower using the new Stitched So Sweetly Die and the Embossing mats.

The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes is punched with the Classic Label punch, matted with Daffodil Delight ,and added at an angle just below the flowers.

A bow, made with some 3/8" Whisper White crumpled seam binding coloured with a Mango Melody Stampin' Blend was added to the stems just below the flowers

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Easter Blessings, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Inks:  Black Memento, Mango Melody (Light and Dark) Stampin' Blends, Granny Apply Green Blend, Balmy Blue ink
Papers:  Whisper White
Accessories:  3/8" Whisper White crumpled seam binding, Stitched Rectangle Dies, Stitched So Sweetly Die, Embossing Mats, Big Shot, Classic Label Punch.

A Mountain Air Birthday

I am learning how to use the double sided stamps focusing on the stamp set "Mountain Air". So far I have not been impressed but I am keeping an open mind.

This card came together quite quickly and I used basically 2 colours of ink - Basic Gray and Mossy Meadow - with a touch of So Saffron.

The only place I used the reverse side of the stamp is with the clouds.

The sun was stamped (in So Saffron) first to make sure I had room to stamp the mountains..  Then  some clouds were added using the reverse side of the cloud stamp.

The mountains were stamped in Basic Gray with second generation stamping done to create the distant hills. Mossy green was used to stamp the tree line and the taller trees on either side.
I found it interesting that the mountain base had notches in it that matched the tree tops nicely.

Some birds were added to the sky - a cluster near the sun and another one towards the far side of the image piece.

All it needed now is a sentiment.

The image piece was then die cut using the rectangle stitched die,  A frame in Mossy Meadow card stock, made with 2 sizes of the same rectangle stitched die was added and then the art piece was added to a Thick Whisper White card stock base.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Mountain Air
Inks:  So Saffron, Basic Gray, Mossy Meadow
Papers:  Whisper White, Mossy Meadow, Thick Whisper White
Accessories:  Stitched Rectangle Dies

Happy Birthday in My Meadow

Creating scenes with the new "My Meadow" stamp set is easier than it looks.  The main challenge is determining what images each of the stamps represent and how you can best use them.  Stamping each on a scrap of paper was very helpful for me.

My second card is a birthday card.  This spring card looks almost like a watercolor.

I started by stamping the bridge and the stream running under it.  Then I added some grass, trees, a water line, clouds and birds in the sky.  For some colour, some red tulips were added, and Flirty Flamingo was used to stamp blossoms on the trees rather than green leaves, although I did stamp some green leaves in amongst the blossoms as well.

Clear Wink of Stella was applied to the water line and the stream running under the bridge.

The sentiment from "Sending You Thoughts" SAB was stamped directly onto the art piece near the top.

This art piece that was created was die cut using a stitched rectangle die, matted with a slightly larger die cut Early Espresso rectangle and adhered to an Old Olive card front.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  My Meadow, Sending you Thoughts (SAB)
Inks:  Early Espresso, Balmy Blue, Mossy Meadow, Flirty Flamingo, Lovely Lipstick, Basic Gray
Papers:  Old Olive, Early Espresso, Whisper White
Accessories:  Stitched Rectangle Dies, Clear Wink of Stella

My Meadow - a Thank You card

I loved the Stampin' Up "Water Front" stamp set.  I loved the "Snow Front" Stamp set.  And now Stampin' Up has come up with the  "My Meadow" stamp set - another stamp set to create your own scenes- this time Spring and Summer.  I am in love!

Tonight I just started playing, not having a definite scene in mind.  One stamp led to another, and before I knew it I had a Spring scene by the water, featuring a Gazebo.

The finished image was die cut with the Stitched Rectangle Die and added to a Crumb Cake card front at a slight angle.

An Early Espresso frame, die cut with 2 sizes of Stitched Rectangle dies, was adhered over top of the scene creating a framed look.

The sentiment, from "Sending You Thoughts" was stamped directly onto the sky using Early Espresso ink.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  My Meadow, Sending You Thoughts (SAB)
Inks:
Sky and clouds and water:  Balmy Blue
Gazebo, trees:  Early Espresso
Ground:  Crumb Cake and Early Espresso
Grass and flower stems/leaves and leaves:  Mossy Meadow, Old Olive
Birds:  Basic Gray
Flowers:  Lovely LIpstick
Papers:  Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Whisper White
Accessories:  Stitched Rectangle Dies

Timeless Tulips - Fast forward to Spring

Spring is still quite a way away.  It's snowing outside and the temperature is anything but warm - but I'm thinking Spring.

These thoughts were helped along with the new stamp set from the Mini Catalogue which just went live - Timeless Tulips.

Tulips have always been harbingers of spring, peeking their heads out of the ground even before all of the snow has departed. So, let's fast forward Spring.....

These tulips were stamped with Grapefruit Grove and Calypso Coral marrying the two.  These are Stampin' Up's Distinctive stamps, so all that wonderful detail is there upon stamping- nothing else is needed, although I did add some Early Espresso with my Aqua painter to emphasize some features.

The leaves were stamped with Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow, again marrying the two colours.  Again, some stripes were added with Early Espresso ink.

Coordinating with this stamp set is the Tulip Builder punch, which was used to punch out the two larger flowers and the leaves. The smaller bloom and stems were fussy cut.

The card base is Soft Suede, a perfect colour to show off these wonderful soft colours.  On this is added a piece of Whisper White card stock  die cut with the Stitched Rectangle die. The center of this piece is die cut with a Stitched So Sweetly die that looks like a window.  This allows the dark colour of the base to peek through and provide a perfect foil for  the floral arrangement.  Before adding it to the card base, some texture was added using the Subtle Texture Embossing Folder.

After the flowers , stems and leaves were assembled they were arranged in a bouquet and tied together with some braided trim. Using dimensionals they were attached to the card front over the die cut window.

The sentiment "Happy Easter, Happy Spring.  Happy, Happy Everything", stamped with Soft Suede ink on Whisper White, was matted with Soft Suede and adhered below the leaves using dimensionals.

A few randomly placed Champagne rhinestones, as well as the application of Clear Wink of Stella  on the tulips, provided the finishing touches to the card.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Timeless Tulip
Ink:
Flower:  Grapefruit Grove and Calypso Coral with accents of Early Espresso
Stem and Leaves:  Pear Pizzazz and Mossy Meadow with accents of Early Espresso
Sentiment:  Soft Suede
Papers:  Soft Suede, Whisper White
Accessories:  Subtle Texture Embossing Folder, Stitched So Sweetly die, Stitched Rectangle Die, Tulijp Builder Punch, 3/16 Braided Linen trim, Champagne Rhinestones, Clear Wink of Stella, Dimensionals
