A Spring Flower for SUO Challenges #241

This week the theme at SUO Challenges is "Flowers".  I love flowers, any flower, paper, or real.  I love them all.

And I particularly like the flower for this card, the crocus. This bulb flower sticks its head above the ground while the snow is still on the ground. This is a welcome sight after a long Canadian winter.

Although the sentiment on this card is an Easter one, it could be a birthday, anniversary or even a sympathy card.

This one layer card in Whisper White card stock, is made elegant by the stitched embossed rectangular frame in the center.  This frame was made using the Stitched Rectangle Die using the Stampin' Up embossing mat and the Big Shot.

The flower was stamped inside this frame and coloured with light and dark Mango Melody Stampin' Blends.  The leaves and stems were coloured with a Granny Apple Green marker.   A blue wash  around the flowers made them stand out a bit more.

Then another embossed frame, centered in the rectangle frame, was made around the flower using the new Stitched So Sweetly Die and the Embossing mats.

The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes is punched with the Classic Label punch, matted with Daffodil Delight ,and added at an angle just below the flowers.

A bow, made with some 3/8" Whisper White crumpled seam binding coloured with a Mango Melody Stampin' Blend was added to the stems just below the flowers

Leftover to Marvelous

My mother was the guru of making wonderful meals from left overs. I have never been able to emulate her with meals.  I am much better with paper crafting.

Today I thought I would make a wonderful card from 'leftovers' from yesterday's Lily birthday card here

The Lily, lily pads and leaves were left over from yesterday's card  I adhered them to a die cut Whisper White rectangle which was  placed inside another die cut piece that has a rectangular frame embossed in it. Inside that was another embossed frame. All were embossed with the Sweetly Stitched Dies and the embossing mats. 

I coloured the white 3/8" Seam Binding with the Gorgeous Grape Stampin' Blend, and when it was dry, it was made into a bow and added to bottom edge of the lily.

The punched sentiment is added emerging between the leaves of the flowers.

The Gorgeous Grape card base is layered with Whisper White. The framed Highland Heather  layer is added to the card front at an angle, as is the die cut art piece.

Noble Peacock rhinestones finish the card.

Reverse Eclipse Technique in an Embossed Frame

A major winter storm is blasting southern Ontario.  It is expected to dump a significant amount of snow accompanied by high winds and sub zero temperatures.  BRRRRR! It's not as bad as in Newfoundland where 70 cm of snow was dumped yesterday.

So what do Canadians do with weather forecasts like that?  Why craft of course!  And think of Spring!  And combine thinking of spring and crafting. And nothing speaks of Spring like the crocus, a bulb flower which is one of the first to emerge from the snowy ground- usually in March.

For this card I decided to do something different.  Not only did I do the reverse Eclipse technique, I also used the Embossing mats and the largest of the rectangle  Stitched So Sweetly Die to create an embossed frame around the image.

The card base for this card is Thick Whisper White which is layered with some Highland Heather DSP from the Subtles DSP stack.

The crocus from the stamp set "Easter Promise" is stamped in the middle of the layering piece of Whisper White card stock and coloured with Highland Heather and Old Olive Stampin' Blends. To make the flowers pop I coloured around them with a Petal Pink Stampin' blend. This coloured image was die cut with one of the window like shapes of the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and set aside.

The largest of the rectangle dies was centered around the die cut opening on the Whisper White piece and embossed using the Stampin' Up embossing mats. Using strips of foam adhesive tape, this Whisper White piece was then adhered to the card front on top of the DSP.  The die cut was then placed into the die cut opening and  adhered to the DSP of the card front. 

The sentiment, from Teeny Tiny Wishes , was punched with the Classical Label punch, layered with Highland Heather card stock and added to the card front just under the flower.  A bow made with the retired Highland Heather Organza ribbon was adhered below the die cut.  Some rhinestones from the Noble Peacock collection finished the card.

Thinking of You - FabFriday #151

Masculine Cards are traditionally difficult to make, so for the sketch challenge with Fab Friday #501
I used several stamps to make  this  "Thinking of You" card.

The card base is Soft Suede which I embossed using the Rooted in Nature framelits (the leaves) and the Big Shot Embossing Mats.  The Whisper White art piece matted with Crumb cake card stock was adhered to this card front using dimensionals.

The art piece was created using the following:

• Water - Bermuda Bay and Waterfront stamp set
• Shore rocks - Soft Suede and Waterfront stamp set
• Two trees - Rooted in Nature and Mossy Meadow ink
• Sun - Waterfront Stamp set and Crushed Curry ink.

At the bottom of the Whisper White art piece I added 2 pieces of  3/8" Shimmer basic gray ribbon, with some 1/16" braided twine tied in a bow at the left edge.

The sentiment was stamped in Soft Suede ink using Teeny Tiny wishes, & punched with the Classic Label punch.  Before adhering it to the art piece above the ribbons I sponged the edges with the same colored ink.

Rooted in Nature - Thinking of You

The Rooted in Nature stamp set and coordinating framelits is the most versatile stamp set I have worked with so far since the Annual catalogue was launched the beginning of June.  I think I have made a card for each stamp in the set, and today is no different.

Today I stamped the individual leaf with Mossy Meadow ink onto Whisper White card stock die cut with the stitched square framelits.  After mounting them with Mossy Meadow cardstock they were adhered to a Whisper White square, also matted with Mossy Meadow.  This art piece will be mounted onto the card front using dimensionals.

The card front is Mossy Meadow, layered with Crumb cake card stock embossed with the Basket Weave embossing folder.

On the left I stamped a Whisper White panel randomly with pine trees and branches and layered it with Mossy Meadow card stock, then wrapped  some Crumb Cake twine around it tying it in a bow near the top before adhering it to the card front.

The art piece was added to the card front overlapping this stamped panel.

The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes punched with the Classic Label punch mounted on a Mossy Meadow small oval punch.

Happy Retirement - Try Stampin' on Tuesday or Not #337

This week the theme associated with the sketch is "special celebration"  Having retired myself, the best celebration I can think of next to birthdays, and anniversaries, is retirement.

This week I discovered how to press flowers and leaves using the Big Shot.  I incorporated one of these background pieces into this card.

I used the Banner's framelit to die cut the pressed flower background and built the rest of the card around it.

Below is what the background looked like before I removed the pressed Geranium florets.  When the florets were removed, you could see where the "juice" from each flower was pressed right into the watercolor paper.

A small square of Sweet Sugarplum card stock with its corners rounded was placed on the right half of this banner.  The sentiment was layered on this and then  a medium Blushing Bride glimmer star was added to the lower left, and a smaller star at the lower right edge.

A Whisper White card stock layering the card front was embossed with the Starburst embossing folder prior to adhering it to the Berry Burst card base.

Before adhering this to a Berry Burst rectangle at the top of the card front, I adhered some Blushing Bride glimmer ribbon at an angle across this Berry Burst piece. The banner art piece was adhered over the ribbon with dimensionals.  A ribbon bow at the left side completed the art piece.

To complete the card I  added glimmer.  I placed three glimmer enamel dots above the sentiment, and one to the center of each of the two stars.

Floral Splendor Thinking of You - Try Stampin' on Tuesday or Not #3

This week the optional theme with the sketch challenge with Try Stampin' on Tuesday or Not
is "As the Garden Grows".  What grows in my garden are flowers, so naturally there are are flowers are on my card.

 

The basic card is Island Indigo, layered with Whisper White and then Blooms & Bliss DSP.
In the middle is a 2 1/4" wide Whisper White panel embossed with decorative dots embossing folder.  It is matted with Sahara Sand card stock.

On this panel on an angle from left upper to right lower are 3 hand made flowers, all in shades of blue.

Flowers 1 and 3:  Smaller flowers sponged with Island Indigo ink, with a Basic Black stamen in the center of which is white liquid pearl.  The flowers were punched using a tattered daisy punch; leaves from another flower making punch.

Middle Flower:  Two Whisper White flowers were punched with the Pansy Punch, then sponged with Always Indigo ink one darker than the other.  After shaping, a Basic Black stamen (die cut with the Botanical Builder framelit) was shaped and added.  Some liquid pearl was also added to the center.

The sentiment, from "Teeny Tiny Wishes" was stamped on Pool Party cardstock and punched with the Work Window punch.

Floral Delight - Try Stampin on Tuesday or Not #321

While I am enjoying the spring weather, I am missing flowers growing in my garden.  It has been too cool for the plants to emerge from the ground.

Making paper flowers is a good substitute for working with real plants and encourages the use of my creative side.

For the sketch challenge with Try Stampin on Tuesday or Not this week, I challenged myself to make some 3D flowers for this sketch - not so 3D that the card wouldn't fit into an envelope or the card wouldn't  fit through that dreaded "slot" at the post office.

I must admit I selected the DSP first and colored the flowers to coordinate with that. The Blooms & Bliss DSP is just beautiful and am sad to see it retire by June. I used a 3 3/4 by 5 piece of the DSP which was adhered to a 4 by 5 1/4" Whisper White cardstock layer.

The art piece is a 3 by 3 3/4" piece of Whisper White embossed with the decorative dots embossing folder.  This I matted with Sahara Sand card stock before adhering it to the card front.

Instead of placing circles on the art panel, I made 2 different styles of paper flowers.

The two smaller flowers were made by punching 2 whisper White daisies, coloring them with an Island Indigo marker and then spritzed each flower lightly to blend the colors.  When the flowers were dry enough I shaped both flowers and adhered them together alternating the petals.  Two small stamens were die cut using the Botanical Builder framelits, shaped using a stylus, and added to the center of each flower. Some liquid pearls in the center and the flower itself is complete.  I punched two leaves for each flower and glued them to the flower bottom.

For the flower in the center I used the Pansy punch, again punching 2 flowers, coloring and spritzing them, and when partially dry shaped the petals by literally squeezing each petal between thumb and forefinger. After adhering them together alternating petals, two black stamens (die cut using the Botanical builder framelit) were inserted into the center. Two leaves were glued to the underside.

All three flowers were spritzed with a glimmer spray and then adhered to the art panel using tombo glue. A close up of the flowers is below.

Happy Valentine's Day - Try Stamping on Tuesday #308

Hugs and Kisses is the theme at Try Stampin' on Tuesday . Because Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching I thought I would make a Valentine's Day card. Three different embossing folders were used to make this card.

The card base is Basic Black layered with Whisper White embossed with the Lucky Hearts embossing folder.
In the lower half is a horizontal piece of Real Red cardstock embossed with the Falling Petals embossing folder. A piece of Basic Black card stock is tucked under the top of this piece, and at the bottom is a row of die cut hearts also in Basic Black.
Two versions of the Sending Love DSP was used on the panels on the rest of the card.  Both are matted with Basic Black cardstock tying the card elements together.
The taller one has a 1/4" real red ribbon tied around it.
The focal point (art piece) is DSP with a heart pattern.  In the middle is a Whisper White punched heart embossed with the Decorative dots embossing folder.
The sentiment punched with the  Classic label punch is adhered to the top of the art piece.  Silver enamel hearts embellishments are placed on both sides of this, with a third embellishment placed randomly. The art piece is adhered to the card front using dimensionals.

Tasty Trucks Birthday - The Paper Players #323

A third birthday card in one day?  I'm really on a roll making sample cards using SAB stamp sets.  This card uses the "Tasty Trucks" stamp set with the sketch from The Paper Players

Art Piece:

After stamping the image of the truck with the extra pieces for n the image(i.e flags, hot dogs), it was coloured with the new colouring tools which will be available in January 2017

The image was cut out and the edges sponged lightly with Soft Suede.

Card:

The card base of Crumb Cake is layered with Very Vanilla, and then Scenic Scenes DSP. A piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock embossed with the Boho Chic embossing folder was placed at an angle in the center.

The image was adhered to the card front with dimensionals.

Underneath the truck is a notched melon mambo strip upon which the sentiment "happy birthday" was stamped.

On a separate piece of Very Vanilla cardstock "hot dog" was stamped and the words punched with the 3/4" circle punch.  This was adhered ti a 1" Crumb Cake punched circle with dimensionals.  This unit was adhered to the right side of the banner.

Petite Christmas Notes

Today I created something a little different.  I made two collections of Petite Christmas notes.  During my various craft shows I noticed people coming to my booth were drawn to my business card which lookes like a small card.  So, drawing on that, I decided to design some petite notes and put them in a hand made box.

Two stamp sets were used:  Seasonal Bells and Hang Your Stockings.  The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Each card is 3 3/8 by 4 1/2" scored at 2 1/4" to make a 2 1/4 by 3 3/8" petite note card

The base for each note card is Shimmery White cardstock, layered with 3 3/4 by 2 1/8" of Presents
and Pinecones DSP.  The art piece is 2 3/4 by 1 5/8"

Each note card set consists of 4 Petite note cards with a hand made envelope for each card.  They are placed in a hand made box which was made using the Thick Whisper White card stock.

Two petite note cards were made of this design.

The art piece was stamped randomly first with the snowflake stamp from Hang Your Stocking, in Mint Macaron ink, followed by the flower in Cherry Cobbler ink.

A 1 3/4" gold foil circle was adhered to this piece, and some 3/8" Delightful Dijon ribbon near the bottom.

On this background were placed two bells from the Seasonal Bells stamp set.

These bells were stamped in Delightful Dijon ink, and punched out using the Bell Punch. A gold glimmer star was attached to the center of each bell.  Both bells are joined to each other at an angle, and a bow made with the 3/8" Delightful Dijon ribbon was adhered at the top.

The sentiment, from Teeny Tiny wishes was stamped in Cherry Cobbler was punched out using the Word Label punch and attached to the top of the note front at an angle.

Two other note cards were made of this design.  This time the bells are stamped with Cherry Cobbler ink, a dazzling diamond snowflake adhered to the bell center, and a bow made with a b bow made using Cherry Cobbler ribbon adhered to the top.

Two stockings were stamped with Delightful Dijon ink and die cut using the Christmas Stockings Thinlet Die. Some ivy was also die cut as well as the berries.  On this note I use 3/8" silver glitter ribbon.

Two others were made using stockings stamped with Cherry Cobbler ink.

Jar of Cheers Christmas Tag Card -Try Stampin' on Tuesday #292

Can you believe it's the middle of October?  Christmas is rapidly approaching, so the card I am making for the sketch challenge with Try Stampin' on Tuesday is a Christmas card.  And because the added challenge is that a tag is part of the sketch this card is a tag card.

 

The snowman from the Jar of Cheers stamp set is coloured with SU markers, and dazzling diamonds applied to the hat and the snow upon which the snowman is standing.  Snow is stamped around the snowman using Pool Party ink.

 

A 3 by 3" piece of Whisper White card stock, after embossing with the Cable Knit Embossing folder, is die cut with the smaller of the mason jars and a shaker element made with red and green sequins  as the shaker elements. The jar is outlined with a gold sticker strip and a smoky slate lid added to the top.  The left upper corner was decorated with 2 evergreen sprigs, which were die cut using the.Pretty Pines Thinlets, a cherry cobbler ribbon, and a mini pinecone embellishment.  A 1/8" hole was punched with the hand held punch and gold tag twine inserted through this.

This "tag" was layered with a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock, and adhered to the card front.

The basic card is Cherry Cobbler, layered with Whisper White cardstock which embossed with the Lucky Stars embossing folder and then with Iridescent  Ice embossing powder.

Two strips of This Christmas DSP were adhered to the Whisper White layer.  The shaker element was adhered over this.

Father Christmas

I am participating in a card swap organized  by Cindy Foder.  The card fronts are to be made using one of the stamp sets in the new catalogue, which is coming out Aug. 2.  The stamp set I chose to made 10 cards from is "Father Christmas".  I had one card left over, so I made a card for myself.

Paper Purse and a set of 4 cards

This is the project for the class in 2 weeks.
The purse is made from one 12 by 12" piece of DSP.  The four cards are fairly simple, and rather than put sentiments on the front, 4 different sentiments (4 of each) were stamped on Whisper White, punched with the Word Window Punch and included in the purse in a plastic bag.

Purse:
The body of the purse is made using one 12 by 12" DSP (English Garden).  I used the design created by Connie and Mary.

• Cut one piece of DSP to 7 x 11, with 11″ at top of Simply Score Tool, score at 4-1/2 & 6-1/2.  Cut two pieces of DSP to 2 x 6, score at 3/4 and 5-3/8 on each.
• With 7″ at top of large piece and using a pencil, make a tick mark at 1-1/4 & 5-3/4 on both ends.  Score from the tick mark to the first score line, repeat on other side to form a triangle as shown.  Fold on all score lines
• 
• Adhere the 3/4″ tab on the side pieces to the base as shown.
   

• Fold in angled sides.  Adhere sides pieces to tabs along the scored seams.  Fold the top tab over inside the purse to help hold the sides in place.
•  

 I used retired brads to attach the deco label and to strengthen the handles.

• Decorate and embellish as desired.  I used the Deco Label Framelit for the purse “latch”.  The handle is 1 x 11 Old Olive, the trim is 1/2 x 11 Old Olive (needed two pieces).

I made a large flower using the retired Fun Flower die; a smaller rose using the Flower Bunch Punch, and a rolled rose using the Spiral Flower die.

Cards:

Stamp: Garden to Bloom
