Get Back on Your Feet - Try Stampin' on Tuesday #420

For this week's challenge,  Try Stampin' on Tuesday is partnering up with Double Trouble. a crafting challenge blog run by 2 retired ladies, and not affiliated with any company.

The challenge is to partner the sketch challenge with Try Stampin on Tuesday with "Thing 1" with Double Trouble, using he guidelines below for brownie points and when finished, link project on both blogs.

 

THING 1:  Trouble Maker

says, "Help us stir up some trouble with a 3-2-1 Recipe that can be used for any occasion."

Directions: You may use more than the recipe ingredients stipulated, but you need to include at least the required minimum of each ingredient for

For my project, I decided to use this little turtle on its back.  Everytime I see it I get a smile on my face.

Here's my recipe :

On an Old Olive card base is added a Whisper White layer embossed with the Ruffle embossing folder.  To bring out the ruffles better, the embossed layer was lightly sponged with Balmy Blue ink using a finger dauber.  The ruffles reminded me of waves which goes along with the poor turtle being knocked off its feet.

Two different patterns of Tropical Escape DSP are adhered to the top of this embossed layer.  - a striped horizontal one, and a vertical one notched at the lower edge. Both of these DSP are matted with Old Olive card stock.  Some Old Olive Linen Thread was wrapped around the notched DSP strip and tied into a bow.

The turtle on its back (from Back on Your Feet), was stamped with Black Memento ink on Whisper White card stock, coloured with watercolour pencils and a blender pen, then die cut with a layering circle die. The make the shell look a bit more realistic, i.e. wet and shiny, some 3D Crystal Lacquer was applied. It was matted with a slightly larger Old Olive scallop circle with the two of them adhered together using dimensionals.  This focal image is added to the card front overlapping the two DSP's.

The sentiment, also from "Back on Your Feet" was die cut with the Stitched Rectangle die, matted with Old Olive card sock and then added to the card front below the focal image.

Some clear "raindrop" elements were added randomly on the focal image and over the sentiment.

Shaving Cream Nautical Theme card - Try Stampin on Tuesday #418

The sketch challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday  #418 has a nautical theme, so I did something different. I made a background e that looks like waves on the ocean, using the shaving cream technique.

Shaving Cream Background:
1.  Put shaving cream (unscented) on a paper plate
2.  Add reinkers - Night of Navy, Balmy Blue, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay)
3.  Using a coffee stick stir all the colours together just enough to mix them
4.  Place card stock on top of this mixture.
5.  Scrape of  excess shaving cream and let card stock dry.
6.  Repeat

The shaving cream background was added to a piece of Whisper White, which was added to a Bermuda Bay card base.

Three different size circles were die cut using Shimmer White card stock, and layered with slightly larger scallop Bermuda Bay circles. Each circle had a different image stamped on it with Night of Navy ink.- all from "Sailing Home"
Large circle:  The anchor with a Bermuda Bay ribbon attached to the top
Medium circle: The sentiment "Thanks"  and birds over head
Small circle:  A Sailing Home steering wheel trinket.

The circles were adhered to the card front differently than in the sketch. A 1/2" strip of Bermuda Bay car stock was adhered to the upper background piece before the circles were added.

His Master's Voice

When I finished this card, featuring the Happy Tails stamp set with its coordinating punch, I was reminded of the old RCA commercial of the record player with the large horn and the dog listening at his master's voice coming from the player- thus the title of this post.

My intent for making this card was to create circle texture by embossing the with the embossing mats and then stamping near the raised areas.  As is usually the case, the card became so much more.

This card was a 'create as you go' card because I had no clear plan as to this card's outcome.

I started by stamping and punching three dogs.  A good number. three!

The stamparatus was used to stamp the dogs, two of which were made to look like my grand puppies - the 3rd a fire house dog.  The middle dog was coloured with watercolour pencils and a blender pen. After punching then with the dog punch, they were set aside while I finished the rest of the card.  At this point I still had no idea how I was going to finish this card.

Using the layering circle framelits and the embossing mats, dry embossed circles were created on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  The embossed and debossed sides were equally attractive, but selected the embossed side for this card.  Then, using the two circle stamps from the "Swirly Frame" stamp set, Soft Suede circles were stamped just inside the embossed areas.  A larger circle framelit was used to die cut these circles.

As I laid the dogs in the circle, as idea started to form.  Some how the old RCA commercial came to mind = and the rest is history.

The card base of Soft Suede layered with vertically scored Crumb Cake card stock and a 2" strip of Animal Expedition DSP to the left was made. 

Before adhering the embossed/stamped circle, I stamped "ruff ruff" in the middle and outside circles.

The three dogs were then added using dimensionals, looking like they were listening attentively.

Two 3/4" circles were punched from a piece of card stock randomly stamped with paw prints and placed in the upper right of the card.

The sentiment, from the same stamp set, was added.  I rounded the corners with the corner rounder punch.

You're the Cat's Meow - Show Us Your Pussycat Challenge #38 & Tuesday Morning Sketches #487

I have heard that having a cat for a pet reduces stress and lowers blood pressure.  Two good reasons to have a cat for a pet.

 I had 2 cats for a while and I adored them, and they me.  They were both very interactive and even talked to me (well in cat language of course)  They are both gone now and I miss them very much. There was nothing more 'calming' that to set curled up with a blanket with a cat snuggled up on your lap. 

So when I saw the "Nine Lives" stamp set and coordinating punch in the new Occasions catalogue I was excited.

The snow is really coming down this morning, so it's a great morning to be creative.  So, I pulled out the "Nine Lives" stamp set and created the card below. In going with the Nine Lives theme I used up the second life of some retired DSP.

Using the stamparatus and the "Nine Lives" stamp set,  the cat was double stamped - first in Black Memento followed by Cajun Craze.  I then punched the cat using the Cat Punch and added it to a Very Vanilla die cut circle  This circle was matted with a Scallop circle in Cajun Craze.

The card base is Cajun Craze, layered with Very Vanilla and then the retired "Festival of Prints" DSP (blue with white circle pattern).  Along the bottom is a 2 1/4" strip of Cajun Craze card stock which I embossed with the new "Dot to Dot" embossing folder.

Above this strip, to the left is a 2 3/4 by 2 1/2" piece of the opposite side of the DSP (Cajun Craze zig zag).  This is matted with Cajun Craze.

The art piece is adhered over all these layers slightly to the right.

The sentiment is from the 'Nine Lives' stamp set.  I stamped it using Cajun Craze ink on Very Vanilla, then matted it with a blue card stock followed by Cajun Craze.  A double bow using  1/8" white organza ribbon was added on the zig zag DSP to the left of the art piece with a glue dot.

Birthday in a Circle - Hand Stamped Sentiment #305

This sketch with Hand Stamped Sentiments #205 immediately inspired me to pick up my Stamparatus  and create this card.

I don't usually make birthday cards using Basic Black , but I loved the contrast of the black with the Highland Heather which I used to color the flowers in the art piece.  It also contrasts nicely with the mainly Highland Heather pattern of the Botanical Butterfly DSP which I use on the top of the card front behind the art piece.

Using a template in my Stamparatus, I stamped the small flower from the Lovely Lattice stamp in a circle. 

 I then coloured each flower with Stampin' Blends (Highland Heather both light and dark, and Granny Apple Green both light and dark, with Daffodil Delight and a fine tip black pen for the flower center).  Tiny green pearls were added to the center of each flower.

The square art piece was then die cut with a layering circle framelit and matted with a Highland Heather scallop circle to form the art piece.

 The sentiment in the center, from "Beautiful Bouquet", was stamped in Highland Heather and then die cut with a layering circle framelit,  It was matted with a  Highland Heather scallop circle and the two circles were adhered together using dimensionals and  then adhered to the center.

Using the new duo butterfly punch, I punched a butterfly from the Botanical Butterfly DSP,  After applying some clear Wink of Stella glitter on the wings I added I to the art piece.  Look carefully because the butterfly camouflages' well

A row of light green pearls were placed under the sentiment and a number of the pearls were randomly placed on the card front.

Double Pocket Card - a Tutorial

This is the card I promised you in my last post - a card using the squirrel from the Peaceful Place stamp set on.  My plan originally was to make a tag card, but along the way my card morphed into something totally different.

Instead of a tag card I made a double pocket card, a pocket for each of 2 tags .  I blame a conversation I had with my friend for this transformation.

 A tutorial to make  a double pocket card, is included in this post.

Below is the final card:

Note:

• Start with an 8 1/2 by 11" piece of double sided DSP.  Place the side you want to be on the front of the card facing up.
• Score each fold as you make it.

Here's how to make the double pocket card:

1,  Fold an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of double sided DSP (in this case "Share What You Love") in half vertically and open.  Then fold it horizontally and open.

2.  With scissors, cut on the left horizontal line to the center fold line.  I inserted the bone folder in the cut to visualize it better.

3.  Fold right bottom corner to the center.

4. Fold top left corner down approximately 2 3/4"

5. Fold top left quarter on the top of the top right quarter.

6.  Fold left bottom quarter underneath the bottom of the bottom right quarter.

7.  Fold bottom right corner up to meet middle horizontal fold.

8.  Fold bottom quarter onto the top quarter to finish the card.

Close all loose edges with tombo glue or double sided tape.

I punched three holes in the left upper side with the crop-o-dile, inserted a 1/4" Rich Razzelberry velvet ribbon through them and tied them in a knot.  Conversely eyelets or brads can be inserted through these holes.

Two tags were made to inset into the pockets and an embellishment was made for the front.

Embellishment:

The squirrel was stamped with Black Memento ink on Whisper White card stock and coloured with Watercolor pencils and a blender pen. I used Stampin Blends to touch up the colours.  The image was die cut with the layering circle framelits, adhering the image circle to the slightly larger Mossy Meadow scallop circle with dimensionals.  This in turn was adhered to the larger Berry Burst scallop circle and the unit was adhered to the card front.  Two leaves were punched with Berry Burst card stock and added above and below the image piece.

Tags:

Both tags start with 2 by 4" Whisper White card stock and the top punched with the scallop topper tag punch.  Chevron Old Olive ribbon is inserted through the tag aperture and tied with Old Olive linen thread (new in Occasions catalogue)

On the bottom I added a 2 by 1" piece of matching DSP with a 1/8" strip of Berry Burst card stock n the top edge.

Tag 1:

The entire front of the tag is stamped randomly with the Leaf stamp using Mossy Meadow ink.
On a separate piece of Whisper White card stock, using a Berry Burst marker,  I highlighted the sentiment "Thinking of You" from the larger sentiment. After trimming it so it would fit on the tag, I matted it the Berry Burst card stock and adhered it to the tag.

Tag 2:

This time I used a Mossy Meadow marker to highlight the images of the trees from the larger stamp  and stamping it onto the tag.  

I adhered a Mossy Meadow sprig punched with the Sprig Punch on the tag top.

Insert each tag into a pocket of the card.

The "Little Red Truck" Christmas - Hand Stamped Sentiment #304

If it's not Buffalo Plaid, it's Red Pick Up Trucks.  Everywhere you look (besides the SU catalogue of course) there are  red pick up trucks with a Christmas tree on the back.  Some even have Buffalo Plaid on them.

So, for the current sketch challenge with Hand Stamped Sentiments here I incorporated both the Red Pick Up Truck and the Buffalo Plaid to make this Christmas card.

The red pick up truck from "Farmhouse Christmas" was stamped on Whisper White, then coloured with Stampin' Blends :  Cherry Cobbler (light and dark), Smoky Slate (light and dark), Pool Party (Light and Dark), Granny Apple Green (Light and Dark).  Before die cutting the image using the Circles Framelits, I stamped some snow falling in the background, and a bit of ice on the road.  Some Dazzling Diamonds was added to the top of the truck and the road.  

The art piece was matted with a Cherry Cobbler scallop circle before adding it to the card front.

The sentiment was stamped on a rectangular piece of Whisper White that had the upper and lower corners of the left end notched with a small circle punch.  Some Garden Green card stock matted 3/4 of this piece, which extended behind the art piece circle.

The base card is Cherry Cobbler layered with a piece of Festive Farmhouse DSP the left side of which was stamped lightly with the bare tree stamp.  On the right side I added a strip of plaid  DSP .  The art piece was added near the bottom towards the right side of the card front.

Friendship is a Sheltering Tree - a Shaker Card

I  can't believe how fast my garden has grown, and how quickly the trees have been covered with leaves. Cherry blossom time has now come and gone, but other fruit trees are just starting to bloom. Which gives me an idea for a shaker card using the Sheltering Tree stamp set.

I started with a base of Petal Pink card stock, one of the new colours, and on a 4 by 5 1/4" Whisper White layer I stamped the tree in Soft Suede ink using Petal Pink ink for the blossoms.  I only stamped the blossoms once as in most cases blossoms are just now emerging from the trees.

A circle was die cut in a second 4 by 5 1/4" piece of Whisper White card stock.  Window sheet was adhered on the wrong side of this, after which I added foam tape around the circle (away from the edge) and around the edges .  This foam tape makes it easier than ever to make shaker cards!

Before adding the shaker elements the embossing buddy was used to wipe both sides of the window sheets as well as the inside.  This not only reduces static cling but also prevents the shaker elements fro 'stickling' to the edges. 

On the right front edge I added a 1/2 by 5 1/4" strip of Petal Pink card stock to which I adhered one of the laser die cuts from the new laser die DSP as well as some 1/4" white organza ribbon.  Die cut flower clusters from Beautiful Bouquet decorated the shaker circle.

The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

A Bench Fold Barbeque card

I've made a Bench fold card before (sometimes this fold is referred to as a U-fold), but for other occasions.  Because the versatility of this card fold lends itself to decorating for almost any occasions I had previously used this fold to create a wedding card  here; a Christmas card here and even a Halloween card here

For today, I wanted to make a masculine BBQ card using the Apron Love and it's coordinating Apron Builder framelits.  Because I have used up the True Gentleman DSP I have used the Coffee Specialty DSP.

The base card is 4 1/4 by 11 3/4" piece of Crumb Cake card stock scored at 2, and 3 7/8" at each end and then folded in to form a bench.
I added DSP to each of these areas.
The feet for the BBQ were die cut using the smaller die of the Lots of labels framelits.

For the back wall, I mounted some rectangular pieces of silver foil on Basic Black card stock  and attached it to the wall.

For the BBQ cook top, I die cut some small foil circles and mounted them on a larger Basic Black circle and attached them to the table top.  I also added a foil "warming" tray and placed some utensils around it.

A coffee pot and mug were cut from the DSP leaving a 1/2" strip of DSP at the bottom of each.  The pot and mug were adhered to each of the burners by this extra piece of DSP.

Finally  I die cut an apron, added a pocked and some utensils, and the meat is ready to put on the burners.

A Catalogue Sneak Peak - Wild About You - Paper Players #390

Finally today I get a chance to play with one of the new stamps in the upcoming Annual catalogue (launch date May 2).  I actually received this stamp set as part of the prize patrol at On Stage London in early April and was really excited to get it. If you ever get a chance to go to any of the local On Stage events put on by Stampin' Up go!!

I decided to use one of the images from this stamp set for the sketch challenge with the Paper Players 

A strip of two patterns of the Crumb Cake DSP was placed across a piece of Whisper White cardstock adhered to a Soft Suede card base.  All the edges  were sponged with Crumb Cake ink before making this base card.

The kangaroo with a wee baby in its pouch was coloured with water color pencils and blended with a blender pen. After die cutting this image with a circle framelit it was matted with a larger Soft Suede circle and adhered to the card front with dimensionals. For interest I added a small branch at the upper right and fussy cut a tiny frog which I placed on top of the branch.  I know you can hardly see him but he was so cute I could hardly resist.

On the right side of the focal point, a strip of burlap ribbon was placed underneath the sentiment "Wild About You" and the card was complete.
