A Get Well Card using the Paper Kintsugi Technique

 I used a tutorial from Splitcoast stampers to use paper to create a Kintsugi effect.  Kintsugi is t he Japanese art of repairing btoken pottery by mending the tracks with gold, silver, or platinum. The piece is thought to be more beautiful because it had been broken.

Instead of pottery, I use DSP that I have deliberately torn in 3 directions.  Versamark ink is applied to some (not all) of the torn edges and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. The card is then glued back together onto a slightly larger piece of Basic White card stock. matching the torn edges which are now guilded with gold.  See below on the technique done on paper.

This is added to a slightly larger piece of gold card stock which is adhered to a Night of Navy card base. 

A sentiment is embossed with gold embossing powder onto Backlmy Blue card stock and die cut with a coordinating die, This is added to a Night of Navy stitched rectangular die with notched corners. These 2 layers are added to the card front using dimensionals. A  narrow strip of gold card stock becomes the faux ribbon.

A Get Well flower - Try Stampin on Tuesday #603

 I just received word that a local craft store, Frog's Whiskers Ink, is closing later in May.  I know both the owners very well and am sad that yet another small business is closing.  The closing in this case is due to health concerns.

Many of the stamps sold at the store were designed and made right on the premises. When I heard about the closing of the store, I searched through the many stamps I have purchased there over the 20 + years.   I wanted to make a "Get Well" card. 

The flower I selected was a Sunflower which was designed by the owner herself. I also found a bee that I thought would go perfectly with the sunflower.

I am submitting this card for the sketch Challenge #603 - theme: flower at Try Stampin on Tuesday.

The card base is Crushed Curry layered with Pecan Pie card stock. The card images are added to a Balmy Blue card stock layer embossed with the Brick embossing folder. Two strips of DSP (with small sunflowers on them ).

The sunflower was stamped on a piece of Basic White card stock. It was coloured  with the following Stampin' Blends using the following colours:  Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Pebbled Path, Wild Wheat.  The leaves were coloured with Old Olive and Daffodil Delight.

The bee was coloured with Daffodil Delight and Basic Black blends with Pool Party on the wings.

The flower and leaves were fussy cut and added to a 2" punched circle of Pecan Pie card stock using dimensionals. This circle was added to the card front over the two strips again using dimensionals. To finish the flower some Early Espresso prills were added to the center of the flower, using Glossy Accents as an adhesive.

The bee was also fussy cut and added to the card front using a small dimensionals. Clear wink of Stella was applied to the wings

The sentiment was stamped onto Crushed Curry card stock and die cut with a Stylish Shaped die and added to the bottom right card front.

To finish the card 3 Gol Pastel adhesive backed sequins were added.

Note:  the card was selected as one of the top 3 cards for the week.

Get Well Double Diamond Fold Card with Butterfly

 I have been intrigued by the variety of card folds that have been presented not only on Pinterest, but also on You Tube.

One fold particularly intrigued me - the Double Diamond Fold Card.  I found quite a few tutorials to help me create this fun fold, but the one I found the most helpful was this one.

This fun fold was wonderful for displaying butterflies from the new Butterfly Brilliance stamp set and DSP.

Get Well - a sneak peak of a new DSP Jan Mini - Try Stampin on Tuesday #487

 For the sketch challenge #487 at Try Stampin on Tuesday I decided to use one of the new  DSP’s, the Black and White "True Love" DSP.

Although the colours in this DSP is Black and White, I discovered that colour could be added by using a Brayer/Brushes, or by using Stampin' Blends.

In addition, the centers of the flowers were embossed with Clear Embossing Powder using a Versa Mark pen.

Using the new Blending Brushes (available in the new Mini Catalogue - January 2021) Gorgeous Grape was applied to the flowers, Mossy Meadow to the leaves, and Balmy Blue to fill in the white spaces. It did not matter that the colours went over the image lines as this gave the paper more of an artistic feeling. Then, using a Versa Mark pen, the centers of the flowers were embossed with the Clear Embossing powder.

An extra cluster of flowers were coloured for embellishments.

In the center a 1" strip of Whisper White card stock, embossed with the Tasteful Textile embossing folder was added. On both of the long sides of this was added a strip die cuts using the Ornate Border Dies. Against the colourful back ground, the Whisper white strip appeared 'starkly' white, so the whiteness was toned down a bit by lightly brushing some left over Balmy Blue ink over the strip.

The sentiment was Black embossed on a strip of Whisper White card stock notched at both ends.  Behind this strip is a 1/4" of Rich Razzelberry (retired) plush ribbon notched on both ends as well.  Behind this was added some Basic Black card stock so the ribbon did not blend in with the back ground colours.   This was added to the lower card using dimensionals.  

A row of Noble Peacock rehinestones was added below the sentiment, and a cluster of fussy cut flowers and leaves were added above the sentiment.

Lovely Lily Get Well - Hand Stamped Sentiments #334

Challenge #334 with Hand Stamped Sentiments  is an inspirational one. It was difficult initially to select how  I would respond to this challenge as I saw so many possibilities.  However, I settled on focusing on water lilies.

The Lovely Lily Pad stamp set and its coordinating Lily Pad dies is a current SAB offering, free with an order of $120.  SAB will be over the end of this month, which motivated me to use this particular option for the challenge.

I started by white embossing the images on watercolour paper.  Each image was then 'washed' with the desired colour using an ink pad and an aqua painter with highlights added  with Stampin' Blends.  They were then die cut.

The back drop for the images i.e  the pond, is the Lily Impressions DSP which was embossed with the retired Seaside Embossing Folder. The cracks made in the DSP looks like waves in the pond.  This layer was matted with Whisper White and then Garden Green card stock before being added, at an angle, to a Whisper White card base.

The large and small lilies were adhered with dimensionals; the Lily pads adhered directly to the DSP below them.  An additonal small lily pad coloured in Granny Apple Green was added above the smaller flower.

Along the right edge was added a die cut trim that was sponged lightly with Proud Peacock ink.

The sentiment from "Timeless Tulips"  is die cut using one of the dies from the "Sending Flowers" die and added to the card front using dimensionals.

Lily Pad - Get Well

I remember visiting my daughter and going for a walk to a water park where the pond was full of beautiful water lilies, the colours of which I tried to emulate in today's card.

The Lily is white embossed on watercolor paper and then watercoloured using an aqua painter. The initial wash was done with Melon Mambo ink, followed by highlighting areas using a Blackberry Bliss Stampn' Blend.
The leaves and Lily pad were first coloured with Pear Pizzazz followed by a Granny Apple Green Stampin' blend.

All were die cut using the coordinating Lily dies and adhered to the front Whisper White card stock  piece lightly coloured with a Coastal Cabana water colour pencil.

The sentiment, from Timeless Tulips, is stamped in Blackberry Bliss and added below flower.

Get Back on Your Feet - Try Stampin' on Tuesday #420

For this week's challenge,  Try Stampin' on Tuesday is partnering up with Double Trouble. a crafting challenge blog run by 2 retired ladies, and not affiliated with any company.

The challenge is to partner the sketch challenge with Try Stampin on Tuesday with "Thing 1" with Double Trouble, using he guidelines below for brownie points and when finished, link project on both blogs.

For my project, I decided to use this little turtle on its back.  Everytime I see it I get a smile on my face.

Here's my recipe :

On an Old Olive card base is added a Whisper White layer embossed with the Ruffle embossing folder.  To bring out the ruffles better, the embossed layer was lightly sponged with Balmy Blue ink using a finger dauber.  The ruffles reminded me of waves which goes along with the poor turtle being knocked off its feet.

Two different patterns of Tropical Escape DSP are adhered to the top of this embossed layer.  - a striped horizontal one, and a vertical one notched at the lower edge. Both of these DSP are matted with Old Olive card stock.  Some Old Olive Linen Thread was wrapped around the notched DSP strip and tied into a bow.

The turtle on its back (from Back on Your Feet), was stamped with Black Memento ink on Whisper White card stock, coloured with watercolour pencils and a blender pen, then die cut with a layering circle die. The make the shell look a bit more realistic, i.e. wet and shiny, some 3D Crystal Lacquer was applied. It was matted with a slightly larger Old Olive scallop circle with the two of them adhered together using dimensionals.  This focal image is added to the card front overlapping the two DSP's.

The sentiment, also from "Back on Your Feet" was die cut with the Stitched Rectangle die, matted with Old Olive card sock and then added to the card front below the focal image.

Some clear "raindrop" elements were added randomly on the focal image and over the sentiment.

Over the moon - a Get Well Card

I used a technique that is familiar to a lot of us - masking - to get the 3 cows from the "Over the Moon" stamp set to 'pose for this picture'

The reason for the pose is to make a Get Well card.

After masking the cow in the middle, I was able to stamp the two others a bit behind him.

To colour them I used a combination of water colour pencils and blender pen with the Stampin' Blends.

After the image was die cut with a Stitched Rectangle Die, the entire piece was embossed with clear embossing powder.  It was then matted with a die cut piece of  Woodgrain DSP and added at an angle over a similar sized piece of Basic Black Card stock. This is turn was angled and added to a Crumb Cake card base.

The sentiment, from "Well Said" was matted with Basic Black and added to the upper right card front.

Thinking of You Friend - The Paper Players #435

After today Sale-a-bration is officially over!  These 3 months have gone by very fast.

For the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge with The Paper Players I am picking the following row: die cuts, embossing and floral, with the Painted Seasons stamp set.

 I am also using a technique I haven't used in a while - the Baby Wipe technique, using the current in-colours reinkers (Lovely Lipstick, Grapefruit Grove, Pineapple Punch, Blueberry Bushel, and Call Me Clover).  I know, I was hesitant too, and I wasn't sure those colours could be mixed together.

On 4 baby wipes folded in half placed on my Stampin' Scrub, several drops of the following reinkers were placed at the top half - Lovely Lipstick, Grapefruit Grove, and Pineapple Punch; and the other reinkers were placed at the bottom - Call Me Clover and Blueberry Bushel.

To be truthful, I had no idea what mixing these colours would look like.  I just hoped the result would not be mud when mixed together.  So, with bated breath I took the flower stamp from "Painted Seasons" inked it up and stamped on glossy cardstock.

I was actually quite pleased at the result.  Now the leaves.  You must admit mixing a blue with a green is not always wise, but again I was pleased with the result.

So, I stamped until I filled a piece of 8 1/2 by 11 piece of glossy card stock - using a different flower per sheet  because I couldn't decide which one I wanted to use.

Then I die cut 3 flowers and leaves from the stamped piece using the Four Seasons Framelits.

As you can see I decided to use the other flower.

Making the Card:

On a Lovely Lipstick card base, a 3 1/4 by 5 1/2" piece of the DSP  (to which a strip of Grapefruit Grove card stock was added to the top and bottom edges),  was adhered.

In the center of this was added a 1 1/4 by 5 1/2" piece of Lovely Lipstick with a 1" piece of Whisper White in the middle.   In the center of this was added a flagged strip of Call Me Clover card stock  on which a  sentiment was embossed  with silver embossing powder.

The three die cut flowers and leaves were arranged on the left of this strip, and rhinestones were added to the center of each flower.

On the inside, a 1/4" strip of the stamped glossy paper was added to the bottom of a Whisper White piece of card stock.  A  1/8" strip of Lovely Lipstick was adhered above this. The embossed Get Well sentiment is from "Dandelion Wishes".

I made this card especially for a friend who is undergoing surgery for breast cancer this coming week. "Know that today a friend is thinking of you"

Dandelion Get Well Wishes

Well, just when I thought I was ready for the Hand of Man crafts show the end of the month I realize I don't have very many "Get Well" cards.

Here are a few I made:

On a thick Whisper White card stock top fold card base, I stamped Dandelion fluff all around the edge of the card before adding the art piece.
In the middle of the art piece I used the stamparatus to stamp the Bokeh Dots in Highland Heather ink.  The Dandelion was black embossed on the left; the sentiment on the lower right.
This art piece was matted with Highland Heather card stock and some white polka dot tulle ribbon tied around the bottom.
It was then added to the card front.
Some mauve sequins (non SU) were added randomly to the front.

Dandilion on Bokeh Background

The Bokeh background stamps save you so much time making a similar background from 'scratch'.  I remember taking hours using stencils with different sizes of circles, daubers with various concentrations of ink, etc to make a Bokeh background.  Now we have a stamp.

The stamparatus was used to stamp the Bokeh dots background image in the center of a 3 3/4 by 5" piece of Whisper White card stock using Balmy Blue ink.

The Dandelion image was embossed with black embossing powder, as was the sentiment (from Hand Delivered).

This art piece was matted with Balmy Blue card stock, which was adhered to a Basic black card stock base.

The sentiment was punched with a 1 1/4" circle punch, matted with a 1 3/8 Scallop black circle punch, with a dimensional,  and then a 1 1/2" Balmy blue circle.  This unit was adhered to the lower right card.

Dandelion Wishes = get well.

Dandelions are one of the first flowers to appear in the spring - a bright splash of yellow against another wise colorless landscape.  Once finished blooming, the flower becomes a ball of fluff, each tuft of the fluff containing a seed for another plant.

I must admit I have a love/hate relationship with Dandelions.  I don't mind them along curbs, but not in my lawn please!

The dandelion In it's fluff state is actually very beautiful and paired against a colorful sky, makes a beautiful get well card

The Basic Black card stock base is layered with Whisper white card stock embossed at the left side with one of the Petal Pair Textured Impression  Folder (stems).

On a separate piece of Whisper White card stock, a center of area was taped off with masking tape, and using a brayer, the following colors were applied: Pineapple Punch, Mango Melody, Gorgeous Grape and Lovely Lipstick.

The single dandelion was embossed with black embossing powder on this colorful panel.

This panel I cut out, embossed the right end with the same embossing folder, matted it with Basic Black card stock and adhered it to the card front.

The sentiment, stamped with Black Memento, had some Dandelion fluff stamped around it before matting it with Basic black card stock and adhering it to the card front using dimensionals.  A gold metallic shape was added above the "wishes" and on the upper right card.

Healing Hugs - a Spring told Card

I created this Fun Fold card using a tutorial I found here.  It's a perfect fold to compliment the Healing Hugs stamped rose image.

The card base is Thick Whisper White card stock, scored and folded as in the tutorial identified.

On the Art Piece, I first layered some Tea Room DSP and then some Whisper White on top of that.  This Whisper White piece was embossed with the Subtle Texture Embossing Folder, which as it implies gives a very subtle texture - see picture below.

On a separate piece of Whisper White card stock I stamped the rose using Calypso Coral ink, and two leaves using Mossy Meadow ink.  All were fussy cut.  The rose was added with dimensionals, and the leaves with tombo. After the rose was adhered to the card, some Clear Wink of Stella was added to it.  For, what is a card without bling??!!

The sentiment, stamped in Mossy Meadow ink on Whisper White and matted with Mossy Meadow.

Along the side I attached some Calypso coral ribbon and bow. and some metallic enamel embellishments.

Healing Hugs - a Partial CASE

This card is a partial  case of a card I saw on Pinterest but I could not identify the author, so if you recognize your work of art please let me know.

I have a feeling this stamp set is going to be one of my favourites.  The rose stamps so beautifully  and with so much detail.  It is reminiscent on a recent SAB stamp.

On a Berry Burst card stock base, a Whisper White layer was added.  This layer was embossed with the Lovely Floral Dynamic Impression Embossing Folder.

On a separate piece of Whisper White card stock, I stamped 2 floral images - one in Berry Burst, and the other in Fresh Fig.  The 3 sets of leaves were stamped in Mossy Meadow.  All were fussy cut.

After adhering a 1/2" Berry Burst  ribbon around the embossed Whisper White layer, the flowers and leaves were arranged as shown above.  The Fresh Fig rose was adhered using dimensionals..

The sentiment is from the stamp set.

Bugs & Beetles Get Well Card

I am not particularly fond of bugs, beetles, or anything that flies and buzzes around - with the exception of butterflies.  I was not a child who collected bugs in a jar, instead aggressively removing them from my house whenever I saw them. And some bugs, like the Ash bore beetle needs to be totally exterminated, having done some incredible damage to our Ash trees!

So why would I get a bug stamp set?

Not collecting them does not mean I am not fascinated by them.  In their own environment they are a wonderful. Talk about colour schemes, shapes, etc!! These are not only a means of identification, but also,more important to us, these colours and shapes or more, can be a source in inspiration. In addition I do craft shows and I have customers who would love this subject on cards.

I found the idea for this get well card  on Pinterest .

Confining the bug in a jar appeals to me tremendously, so the Everyday Jars Framelits were a god send. After putting the bug in the jar I immediately put a lid on it. Then it was coloured with markers. The die cut jar was adhered to a stitched Crumb Cake circle with dimensionals and matted with a Soft Suede scalloped circle. This art piece was adhered to the card front.

The sentiment (non SU) was stamped on Whisper White.  It was perfectly paired with the topic for this card.  A couple of flying bugs were stamped below the sentiment. After die cutting and matting the sentiment it was adhered to the card front.

The Soft Suede card base is layered with the striped pattern of the Soft Suede DSP, with a 1" strip of the dot pattern along the left side. A 1/8" stitched Bermuda Bay ribbon was placed over the seam.  This brought a pop of colour to the otherwise monochromatic card.

A Z box pop up get well card

My friend of 47 years had open heart surgery - to replace two heart valves which were damaged when she had rheumatic fever as a child. The last couple of years have been particularly hard on her so I was very glad to hear that her surgery had finally been scheduled.

Friends are very important to me. We met when I was starting University in Kingston, Ont.  I had been working in a bush hospital in Northern Manitoba, so I could not come south soon enough to find accommodations.  My sister, living in Kingston at the time, found an apartment and a room mate for me.

This room mate and I had an immediate connection and a friendship that has survived 47 years began. She now lives in Manitoba; I live in Ontario, but despite the distance we have remained friends.

You can understand why I would want to make a very special Get Well card for her.

 I started with a Tip Top Taupe base, making another Z box pop up box.  I made a similar box yesterday where I gave a link to a tutorial I used.  See blog post here

Flowers die cut using the Succulent framelits and the Botanical builder dies were adhered to strips of window sheets which were adhered to the inserts inside the box.  Bermuda Bay glimmer butterflies were adhered randomly on various parts of the card.  They provide that touch of glimmer that I so love.

My friend loves flowers, but is not a nature person, preferring to renovate her house rather than tend to a garden.  And she's quite good at it too.

This is a sideways view of the box within the Z fold card.  The sentiment, when stamped, would have been too large for the space available for it, so I cut the sentiment into smaller pieces and adhering it to a piece of sponged Mint Macaron cardstock and then adhered some on the front, and some on the back panels.

The Mint Macaron glimmer grass was due cut using the Basket Builder framelit/die.

The Succulent DSP dresses up the card nicely.

The close up here shows the multi layered flowers with rhinestones in their centers

The card folds closed for mailing.  It will be posted in a bubble envelope hopefully today.
