Rose Made with Balloon punch - a CASE

Anytime I learn of a different and unique way to use one of the punches I get excited.

Yesterday I learned how to made a rose using the new Balloon punch, thanks to a video made by Nicole Creations here

The rose was made by punching 17 balloons in Real Red card stock, sponging the edges with Real Red ink, and then shaping them with a bone folder.

The rose is built on a 1 1/2" punched circle of the same colour of card stock, and has 4 layers plus the specially shaped center piece.

Layer 1 - bottom - comprised of 6 shaped balloons
Layer 2 - 4 shaped balloons
Layer 3 - 3  balloons
Layer 4 - 2 balloons
Center

The 5 leaves were hand cut from a folded piece of Garden Green card stock embossed with the corrugated embossing folder.

After making this rose using the new Balloon punch I was curious to see if I could make a rose from the Balloon Boutique punch (the larger of the two balloons).  I was able to do so.  See the picture below.  It is made using Melon Mambo card stock.

Congrats Grad - The Paper Players #351

Thank you Cindee Wilkinson for the inspiration to create this glossy background. She has a video on her blog which explains the technique very well.

I created several backgrounds and finally decided on one to make the graduation card for the challenge at the Paper Players.  The challenge is a theme one, and among the several options I decided to make a graduation card.

I made the background first using reinkers and glossy card stock.  The following reinkers were applied to the cardstock as separate drops:  Tranquil Tide, Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist, and Powder Pink.  After spritzing with water and observing the wonderful effect as the colors blended, I added some Wink of Stella and then allowed the card stock to dry.  And this takes a while.....

The base card is Tranquil Tide layered with Powder Pink cardstock embossed with the Ruffled Texture Impression Embossing Folder.  The ruffles on the card stock remind me of the ruffles on a graduation gown.

On the left side of the card I placed a 1 1/2" strip of the glossy background with an punched edge in Berry Burst. This punched edge was made using the new Decorative Ribbon edge Punch.

On a separate piece of Whisper White card stock I sponged 3 separate areas with  Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist, Tranquil Tide and Powder Pink and punched 3 large balloons with the Balloon Banquet Punch.  These were added with dimensionals with the Tranquil Tide strings stamped using a stamp from "Sunshine Sayings" emerging from the bottom of the balloons.  A bitty bow (Berry Burst) was added at the base of the balloons. Some Wink of Stella was brushed over the balloons.

The sentiment, from "Sunshine Sayings" was stamped with Tranquil Tide on Whisper White and punched with the Pretty Label punch.  I reinserted  the resultant punchie back into the punch to make it smaller.  Since it reminded me of a cloud I attached it to the balloons.

Some clear faceted gems were added to the sentiment and along the upper right side.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Sunshine Sayings
Inks:  Reinkers and ink pads:  Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink, Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst.
Papers:  Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink, Glossy card stock, Whisper White, Berry Burst
Accessories:  Clear faceted gems, Bitty Berry Burst bow, Balloon Bouquet punch, Decorative Ribbon punch, Pretty Label punch, Ruffled Texture Impression Folder, Wink of Stella, dimensionals.

Here are some other backgrounds I made:
Perfect Plum, Lemon Lime Twist, Pool Party

Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Rich Razzelberry

Lemon Lime Twist, Island Indigo, Tangelo Twist

Balloon Birthday - Try Stampin' on Tuesday #315

The sketch challenge with Try Stampin' on Tuesday this week is just crying for balloons.  However, I did have to make some strategic changes to Vicki's sketch, which I hope she doesn't mind.

The optional theme for this sketch was to use 3 different patterns.
As you can see from my card, instead of circles I used balloons of different sizes and patterns, and I placed them on the upper left of the card.

To do this I used balloons from 2 different stamp sets:  Celebrate today (the larger balloon) and Balloon Adventure (2 other balloons).

After stamping the balloons on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, the larger one was die cut using the Balloon Framelit Dies: the smaller balloons with the Balloon Bouquet punch.

The sentiment was stamped on the larger balloon
with Black Memento ink before it was adhered to the upper left of a Very Vanilla Art piece. A curly balloon string was stamped from the larger balloon. The other two balloons were adhered using dimensionals. A fine tipped marker was used to hand draw balloon strings from these two balloons to merge with the curly one.

Two Bermuda Bay glimmer bows were added two places along the balloon strings.

After I finished this, I felt the card lacked something, so I die cut some clouds using the Up & Away Thinlets, sponged them with Basic Gray and adhered them to the card.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Celebrate Today, Balloon Adventures
Inks: Calypso Coral, Black Memento, Crushed Currie, Bermuda Bay, Basic Gray
Papers:  Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Bermuda Bay glimmer paper
Accessories: Balloon Framelit dies, Balloon Bouquet Punch, Up & Away Thinlets, dimensionals.

Now its your turn.  Create a project using Vicki's sketch.  Then download it to the Try Stampin' on Tuesday blog or their Facebook Page.  Remember that you have 2 weeks to complete your project. I look forward to seeing your projects.

Pop & Twist Lift Me Up Birthday

Pop & Twist, or is it Twist & Pop....
What's in a name?
This card was made as a swap card in a technique swap.

A Pop & Twist card has a unique "twisting" mechanism that "pops" when the card is opened. It absolutely delights recipients when the unexpected elements are exposed.
As my son stated when I opened the card "Well that was unexpected, but absolutely delightful!"

The card base is Basic Gray card stock, which is 4 by 12", scored at 6" for make a 4 by 6" card.

This picture shows the card front and a belly band which keeps the card closed.

The card front is layered first with Whisper White, followed by the SAB Carried Away DSP.

The Art Piece is Whisper White matted with Night of Navy card stock.

On the background of sunshine and sea birds(from High Tide) I placed two hot air balloons around clouds.

The largest hot air balloon is die cut using Night of Navy card stock, with different die cut pieces of Carried Away DSP adhered behind it.

The smaller balloon is first stamped with Calypso Coral ink and then die cut with the Up & Away Thinlet dies.

All cardstock and die cut images are sponged with Basic Gray ink (except the smaller balloon)

Open the card, and this is what is revealed - 4 pop up decorated panels.

I decorated them using Layering Oval framelits, die cut images using Up & Away Thinlet dies, sentiments and bird images from "High Tide" on a Whisper White background and Carried Away DSP.

This is a close up of the inside upper panel of the card.

The lower panel is similar to the upper panel.

The two right panels of the pop mechanism.

The two left panels.

Close up of belly band showing die cut hot air balloon, a cloud, a punched balloon and the sentiment.

The belly band is closed at the back with Velcro

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Lift Me Up, High Tide, Balloon Celebration
Inks: Black Memento, Basic Gray, Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron, Crushed Curry, Peek-a-boo Peach, Markers (Basic Black, Basic Gray)
Papers: Basic Gray, Whisper White, Calypso Coral, Night of Navy, Carried Away DSP, Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper
Accessories: Balloon Builder Punch, Up & Away Thinlet dies, Timeless Type Junior Alphabet dies, scoring tool, Velcro (non SU). Layering Oval Framelits.

Balloon Bouquet Birthday - a CASE

This card was cased from one I saw on Pinterest.  I was intrigued by the idea of using DSP from SAB and the Balloon Bouquet punch to make this card.

  • Three different colours of the Perfectly Artistic DSP was punched with the Balloon Bouquet punch resulting in 6 different balloons in 2 sizes.
  • Before adhering them to the Whisper White cardstock, the balloon strings were stamped using the "Balloon Celebration' stamp set.
  • Then the balloons were arranged and then adhered to the card front - some adhered to the front, and then adhered using dimensionals.
  • The sentiment was from the stamp set "Happy Happenings".
  • A bow made with the 1/4" cotton Marina Mist ribbon was adhered to the bottom of the balloons using a glue dot.

  • The base card is Marina Mist, layered with Whisper White embossed with the confetti embossing folder.  In the center of the embossing folder was a piece of Whisper White cardstock (the image piece) matted with Marina Mist cardstock.
