A double embossed elegant Mother's Day card - SUO #247

Gold foil combined with Whisper White or Very Vanilla create a very elegant card, perfect for Mother's Day or a card for that special someone in your life.

To make this card even more elegant, I double embossed the background using the 3D Ornate Floral embossing folder, which is available for order now even though it is a new item in the upcoming Annual catalogue, and gold embossing powder.

I will explain how this is done ,but first the card....

Here's how I double embossed the background.  You will need the Embossing Folder, a Big Shot or other embossing machine, a piece of Whisper White card stock 4 by 5 1/4", Versa Mark, and Gold Embossing Powder. Other colours of embossing powder can be used.

• Open the Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder, and with your fingers, feel the surface of each of sides onthe inside.  Select the side where the surface feels smooth (usually it's the side that has the Stampin' Up logo on it but not always so it is good to feel for the smoothness of the surface)
• Apply versa mark generously directly onto the embossing folder using the ink pad directly onto the folder
• Add a 4 by 5 1/4" piece of Whisper White card stock to the inside of the folder, laying it against the uninked side.
• Gently close the folder, and insert into the Big Shot and emboss as usual.
• Gently remove the embossed Whisper White piece and add gold embossing powder over entire surface
• Heat set with heat tool.
• Your Whisper White piece is now double embossed.
• Clean and dry embossing folder.

Below is a close up of the double embossed background of this card.

The 4 1/4 by 11" piece of  Thick Whisper White card stock is scored at 5 1/2" to form a top fold base.

After double embossing a  3 3/4 by 5" piece of Whisper White, it is trimmed to 3 by 4 3/8" and addedto a 3 3/4 by 5 1/8" gold foil stitched frame.  This frame was made by die cutting 2 sizes of Stitched Rectangle dies together.

A 3/4 by 3 3/4" strip of gold foil was die cut with one of the Ornate Layer dies and added to the center of the card. Some 3/8" gold metallic ribbon, bunched at the middle, was added to the top of this die cut and the ends adhered  around the back. A double bow was added at the left end.

This completed layer was then adhered to the card front using dimensionals.

The sentiment, from "Strong and Beautiful" was gold embossed, die cut with the Ornate Frame die and added to the card front with the lower end abut the die cut ribbon layer. Gold foil leaf stems (3), die cut using a Jubilee Beauty die, were added around the top of this piece.  Three hand made flowers were added above the bow.

Flowers:

Six flowers were punched in Whisper White using the small blossom punch, spritzed with alcohol, and bunched up.  After they were dry, they were shaped slightly, and two were adhered together to form one flower.  A small gold foil flower was added to each center.

Inside:

The outside of the die cut center was added to the inside, with a smaller whisper white center added on top of that.

A die cut similar to the one on the center of this card was added to bottom of the inside piece.

Butterfly Thank you - Double Embossing 2

This is the second card I made yesterday using the double embossing technique - this time using 2 different embossing folders.  Since I could not find  a tutorial for this method I will provide a step by step explanation.

The two embossing folders I used were the Fancy Fan Folder and the Oval from the Designer Frames set of 2.
1.  Cut 3 pieces of the cardboard ( from the DSP pack) - approximately  4.25 by 5.5 inches.
2.  After deciding where I wanted the oval on my card, I used the Ovals framelits to cut an oval out of each piece of card board.  To make sure the ovals are in the same spot on each piece of cardboard, I marked the oval on the 2nd and 3rd piece with a pencil before cutting out the ovals.
3.  Adhere the 3 pieces together.
4.  Attach this with a temporary adhesive to the top of the Fancy Fan embossing folder.
5.  Place cardstock inside the embossing folder, and run through the Big Shot on the multipurpose platform- with all tabs closed and only one cutting plate.  This results in an embossed piece of cardstock with an unembossed oval.
6. Attach the 3 die cut ovals together and attach to the back of the Oval designer embossing folder.
7.  Place the oval embossing folder over the area that is blank
8.  Place on top of the multipurpose platform and with all tabs closed run it through the Big Shot.
This gives you the second embossed area in the middle of the fancy fan embossed area.

The butterfly is made by stamping a butterfly from the Backyard Basics stamp set onto Vellum using Black Stazon ink, then colouring on the wrong side using markers.  The image was then die cut using the coordinating framelit.

Happiest Birthday - Apothecary Art - Double Embossing 1

I was  finally able to go down to the craft room for the first time in almost a month.  About 2 weeks after my wrist/hand surgery the doctor had given me the all clear to make cards.  But, I didn't behave myself - what can you expect from a type A personality?- and my hand started to get very painful, especially at night. The doctor gave me a lecture stating I had over done it and cut me off doing any sort of craft.  It's now been a month since the surgery, and I'm slowly trying it again.  Actually I kind of have to as I have a class scheduled on Wednesday and I had to make some sample cards.  The topic this week is double embossing- not the easiest technique for my hand but I managed.

There are two ways to double emboss.  One involves using the framelits only; the second method involved using two embossing folders.

My post today shows  a card made using the first method.  I used a tutorial by splitcoaststampers here but I must admit it took me a couple of tries to get it right.  It's amazing how much I've forgotten in a month!

A Friend is...... Try Stampin' on Tuesday #115

A state of emergency still exists in some communities in cottage country to the north and east of here.  However, in some communities, it has been lifted as the flood waters have peaked and are starting to recede.  Have we had Spring yet?

It's such a dull day here today so I thought I would make a card with some bling!

The Raspberry Ripple base is layered with a Very Vanilla cardstock that has been embossed twice - once with the lines folder, and then with Pewter embossing powder.

Some glimmer brads were inserted in the corners of this embossed layer.

The focal image is one of the quotes from the "Feel Good" stamp set, which is embossed on a rectangle of Whisper White card stock using Pewter embossing powder.  This rectangle is layered with Raspberry Ripple card stock.  A 2 1/2" circle of DSP from the Print Poetry DSP stack, layered with a circle of Raspberry Ripple, is attached under one end of the focal image.  A banner of Summer Starfruit is attached over the circle, but underneath the focal image.

Christmas in Black and White - Sunny Challenges #58/12

Making a card in black and white only was definitely a challenge for me.  But that, along with a sketch challenge was the additional challenge with Sunny Challenges here 
I had to let the idea sit with me for a couple of days before I finally decided on a card.  Hope you like it.

 

Technique:  The base card is Basic Black layered with Whisper White which was embossed with the starburst embossing folder and then embossed with iridescent ice embossing powder.

The designer paper is from the neutrals paper pack.

The focal image was embossed with white embossing powder on black card stock.  If you look carefully you can see tiny pearls along the outside of the snowflake and in the middle.  The black cardstock was matted with white card stock and sponged slightly with black ink so that it would stand out againt the white embossed layer.  I also took the image and tilted it at an angle.

The bow had a white button tied around it with White Baker's Twine - basically to hide the white dots which is what is on the other side of the ribbon (and  I didn't want to show)

Making Snowpeople - Stamping 411 #267

One has to be politically correct these days.  Since the image has both a male and female snowperson, one can't say the children are making snowmen.

The base of the card is Gumball Green; the next layer Very Vanilla which was double embossed with the Stripes folder and Iridescent Ice embossing powder.

The image was stamped with Black Stazon and colored with chalk and a blender pen.  Dazzling diamonds created some wintery glitter.

Unfortunately the sentiment was stamped slightly askew.  I was going to fix it but decided to leave it as the card is hand made and one can accept some imperfections.

After the image was die cut with the labels framelit die, the edges were stippled with Pool Party ink and a stipple brush, after with they were sponged slightly with Gumball Green ink.

Snowflake Soiree - Unscripted Sketches #169

For this card for the sketch challenge with Unscripted Sketches #169 here I thought I'd do a technique I haven't done for a while - emboss resist.  Again, this is a Christmas card done basically in 2 colors - Marina Mist and White with a touch of Silver glimmer paper thrown in.  The picture doesn't do it justice.

 

The basic card is Marina Mist card stock.  The next layer is double embossed using the starburst embossing folder and Iridescent Ice embossing powder.

The focal image was stamped with Versa Mark and embossed with white embossing powder.  After heat setting, Marina Mist ink was sponged over the entire surface.  With a paper towel, the ink over the snowflakes were wiped off and a silver glimmer brad was placed in the center.

These focal images were matted with Silver Glimmer paper and attached to the double embossed Whisper White card stock using dimensionals.

The small snowflakes were die cut using the new Snowflake die.  A 1/2" circle of Marina Mist and then a tiny silver glimmer paper was placed in the center of each snowflake.  The tiny silver glimmer 

circle was made using the eyes of the Owl builder punch.

Double Embossing Thank You - Sketch Frenzy Friday

The craft sale didn't go as for some reason my name got left off the list. Well, these things happen and I wasn't too upset.  I'm still pretty sore from the surgery.
