Altered spiral Journal

My craft shows are a few months away, but it's never too soon to get ready.  The journals I have altered have always been popular, so I make sure I have plenty on hand.

The journal was covered with Floral Boutique DSP with accents of Night of Navy and a touch of Delightful Dijon with the Moroccan DSP.

The spine is braided with Daffodil Delight  and Night of Navy seam binding, both ribbons being used at the same time.

The focal point is a Sunflower made using the yet to be released Eastern  Mediterranean thinlets.  The "flower" was die cut twice with Delightful Dijon cardstock and then adhered together alternating petals.  A bone folder was used to curl each petal.
The center of the sun flower was made by first die cutting in chocolate chip a circle using the layering circle framelit on top of which was adhered another die cut circle again using the Eastern Mediterranean thinlets.  Dimensionals popped the 2 layers up.  Another die cut circle was adhered to the center.  Some flower soft was applied on top of that.

The leaves were die cut in Mint Macaron card stock using the Stylish Stems framelits, and a stem hand cut with the left over pieces.  The edges were sponged with Old Olive ink before adding them to the flower.

The flower was built on a piece of Whisper White card stock, the backgound of which was stamped with Gorgeous Grunge - first with Delightful Dijon and then  with Old Olive. Before matting it with Night of Navy card stock. the edges were sponged with Delightful Dijon ink

The sentiment, from Grateful Bunch, was stamped with Night of Navy ink on a label stamped from the Rose Wonder stamp set.  It was then die cut, and this die cut matted with another label die cut with Night of Navy.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Rose Wonder, Gorgeous Grunge
Inks: Night of Navy, Delightful Dijon, Old Olive
Papers: Night of Navy, Floral Bouquet DSP, Mediterranean DSP, Chocolate Chip, Mint Macaron, Whisper White
Accessories: Tasteful Trim die, 5/8" Daffodil Delight seam binding, Night of Navy Seam Binding, Stylish Stems Framelits, Eastern Mediterranean thinlets, Layering Circles framelits, Flower Soft (non SU), dimensionals

Rose Wonder Swap Cards

Every month I swap 3 cards with another group.  This month the topic was "Roses" so used the Rose Wonder stamp set and coordinating framelits to made the swap cards.
The technique I used to color the Roses was the "Floating Reinker Technique" and I was absolutely amazed that I could remember it.

Using White Shimmer card stock, I embossed the Rose image with White embossing powder.
In paint palette containers, I prepared 3 or 4 drops of 3 different colors of re-inkers (diluted with 1 or 2 drops of water): Pool Party, Marina Mist and Dapper Denim.

After thoroughly wetting the embossed image I picked up each color, starting with the lightest color) with my aqua painter and just touched it to the wet surface.  It still amazes me to watch the color spread across the surface!

The leaves were die cut with the coordinating framelits.

Once dry, I fussy cut the Roses and mounted each one on a 3 by 3" piece of Whisper White card stock, which I matted with Pacific Point card stock.  A heart shaped pearl was placed in the center of the Rose and some dazzling details was added around the edges of the petals.  This was added to the card front piece which I had stamped with the background stamp "Brushstrokes" using Soft Sky ink.

The leaves which were added on either side of the flower, extended over the edge of the art piece.

The sentiment is from "Grateful Bunch".

Because the Rose is a fairly large flower, it looked better on a 5 by 5" card base.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Rose Wonder, Grateful Bunch,Brushstrokes
Inks: Pacific Point, Versa Mark Re-inkers (Pool Party, Marina Mist, Dapper Denim), Soft Sky
Papers: Whisper White, White shimmer paper, Pacific Point, Old Olive
Accessories: White embossing powder, Aqua painter, dimensionals, Rose Garden Thinlets, Flat backed heart pears (non SU), Dazzling Details, Pacific Point satin ribbon (retired)

With Sympathy - another Telescoping Technique

I knew there was a name for the technique that I called "layering" but could not remember it yesterday.  Today I remembered.  It's called Telescoping technique.
Today I made a sympathy card using the Calla Lily stamp from the Remarkably You stamp set, using that technique.
I don't know why I chose to make a sympathy card today, but I know why now.  I just finished watching a news broadcast about the mass shooting in a nightclub in Orlando, Florida - and the arrest of another terrorist who intended to do harm at a Gay Pride Parade in California.  I have friends in both Florida and California, and if any of you are reading this post, please contact me and let me know you are all right.

This Sympathy card again features a stamp from the "Remarkably Yours" stamp set, and again I use the Telescoping technique.

The image is stamped on a 3 1/4 by 4 1/2" piece of Whisper White cardstock, and coloured with a blender pen and ink pads (Sweet Sugarplum and Old Olive).  Because I wanted to use the telescoping technique, I made 2 coloured images on the same size of cardstock - one to die cut and one to build the die cut pieces onto.

Selecting one of the pieces of cardstock, and using circle framelits, the image was die cut as shown in the picture below.

On the wrong side of the die cuts pieces, 1/2 pieces of dimensionals were attached, and one at a time these pieces were built on the remaining coloured images, carefully matching the images.

Here's a side view of the completed telescopic images.  You can't see it very well, but clear Wink of Stella glimmer was added to the sides and stems of the images.

This Whisper White image piece was matted with a 3 3/8" by 4 7/8" piece of Sweet Sugarplum cardstock.
This was adhered with dimensionals onto a Sweet Sugarplum cardstock base layered with Sweet surgarplum DSP
All layers were sponged with Sweet Sugarplum ink.

The sentiment and label is from the "Rose Wonder" stamp set.  They were stamped with Black Memento ink, and die cut.  Holes were punched at both ends of the label, and a 1/4" piece of white cotton ribbon was inserted in it, underneath it, out the other side, and then around the matted image piece and tied into a kot at the right front.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Remarkedly Yours, Rose Wonder
Inks: Black Memento, Sweet Sugarplum, Old Olive, Hello Honey
Papers: Sweet Sugarplum, Whisper White, Sweet Sugarplum DSP
Accessories: Rose Garden thinlet dies, 1/4" white cotton ribbon, Circle framelits, blender pen, Wink of Stella clear glimmer brush, dimensionals.

Rose Wonder on Sketched Dots Tag n' Bag - an Occasions catalogue case

This is a case from the Occasions Catalogue Pg. 18.  Isn't it amazing that you can look at a catalogue millions of times and not see everything.  This particular example I had not noticed until I just happened to look down.
This catalogue has a lot of wonderful examples of cards, 3D items etc featuring the stamps available.

This item featured a sketched dots Tag n' Bag, a package of which I had received not long ago, and wasn't sure what to do with.  So, I cased this one.

I stamped the rose first with Versa Mark and then Calypso Coral, added clear embossing powder and heat set.
Then both leaves were stamped with Versa Mark and Old Olive, clear embossing powder was added and they were heat set.
Using an Aqua painter and ink pads (Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo , Pink Pirouette - for the Rose) and Old Olive and Mossy Meadow for the leaves the images were coloured.  Then I cut them out.

In the meantime, I prepared the background.
I cut a piece of Night of Navy cardstock 5 by 3" and notched the bottom.  The sentiment "Happy Birthday" was embossed with white embossing powder at the top.
Then a 5 1/2 ny 1" piece of Pretty Petals DSP was adhered slightly behind and above the Night of Navy tag.

The Rose and leaves were adhered to the Night of Navy tag using dimensionals, and then I applied some Wink of Stella clear glitter.

To attach the tag to the bag, I folded the top down slightly, and used a small clothes pin to hold the tag in place.  A piece of Very Vanilla/silver Baker's twine was tied around the clothes pin and made into a bow.

Supplies used:
Stamp Rose Wonder
Inks: Versa Mark, Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow
Papers: Sketched dots Tag n' Bag, Night of Navy, Whisper White, Pretty Petals DSP pack
Accessories:Clear embossing powder, White embossing powder, small clothes pin, Vanilla/silver Baker's twine, Wink of Stella clear glitter brush, dimensionals.

Rose Wonder Floating Ink Technique

I learned this technique first when the stamp set "Fifth Avenue Rose" was current, so when I saw the stamp set "Rose Wonder" I pleased to see demonstrators performing this technique again.

Textured Rose Card - a partial case

This card is made using Homemade texture past and the Roses framelit (the small rose).  This was given to me by Frenchie, who got it from Debbie Henderson.
I'll put the recipe at the bottom of the post.

  • Using the hand made texture past, it was applied to the top of the Rose Wonder framelit which had been positioned on a piece of heavy Whisper White cardstock.  The framelit was lifted off and washed under running water, and the paste on the cardstock allowed to dry (several hours).
  • After it was dry, the rose was coloured with Rose Red ink using a sponge dauber.  The leaves were stamped using the coordinating stamp set, with Pear Pizzazz ink.  The leaves were filled in using a sponge dauber and the same coloured ink.
  • On the background, using Sahara Sand ink, I stamped the image from the "First Sight" stamp set.  I stamped off first to make the images as light as possible.
  • For the sentiment, I first stamped the image that would be die cut, and then stamped the sentiment in the middle.  It was then die cut using the coordinating framelit, and mounted on the card using dimensionals.  Three rhinestones were added below the sentiment.
Recipe for Handmade Texture Paste:
  • 1/4 cup corn starch (any brand)
  • 1 tablespoon white school glue like Alymers
  • 1 tablespoon white acrylic paint
  • 1 tablespoon water
Add all ingredients together except the water, and then add the water a bit at a time until you get the paste at a consistency the it drips slightly from the spoon.
Place the rest in an air tight container, and you will be able to use it again.

Supplies:
Stamps: Rose Wonder, First Sight
Inks: Rose Red, Pear Pizzazz, Sahara Sand
Papers: Rose Red, Sahara Sand, Heavy weight Whisper White
Accessories: Rose Wonder framelits, Hand made texture past, sponge dauber,

Note:  When adhering the heavy cardstock to the matting layer, using a lot of adhesive, making sure the adhesive goes to the edges of the back of the cardstock.
