A Rose by Any Other Name.....

The rose from "Graceful Garden" has a vintage look to it so when I was putting this card together for my team swap tomorrow, I gave the art piece a distressed look.

Roses have always been one of my favourite flowers, but I must admit, although I grow other flowers extremely well, Roses are not one of them. The very first house my then husband and I bought had a large rose bed, and within 3 years all the roses were dead.

I was more confident tending to the rose on my card.

The top fold Rose Red card is layered with a Whisper White piece stamped with the Brushstrokes background stamp.

On the Whisper White art piece I stamped the rose towards the right side, and then stamped the lattice background stamp in 2 places using Sahara Sand ink.  The  rose was colored with ink pads and an Aqua painter. The  colors for the rose:  Powder Pink, Rose Red, and Real Red - for the stem and leaves: Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, and Always Artichoke.

Using a paint brush, liquid Versa Mark refill was brushed over the rose only, and it was embossed using clear embossing powder.

The edges of the art piece were distressed using the blade of a pair of scissors.  I wanted to do some tearing, but was unable to do so as my right thumb is still in a splint. I did fold down a couple of corners.  All edges were then sponged with Sahara Sand ink.

The art piece was adhered to the card front at an angle.  A 1/4" Very Vanilla gold ribbon tied in a bow was attached on the left side.

Would you believe I made 5 of these cards?

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Graceful Garden, Brushstrokes
Inks:  Black Memento, Powder Pink, Rose Red, Real Red, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Sahara Sand, Versa Mark refill
Papers:  Rose Red, Whisper White
Accessories:  Clear embossing powder, 1/4" Very Vanilla gold ribbon, Aqua painter.

This rose reminds me very much of a wood mounted stamp I bought 10 years ago at a garage sale.

Crafting Forever on a Watercolor Background

I used all the new "In-colors" to make the water color background wash for the paint brushes, scissors, etc.  I also used the "Gorgeous Grunge" splot stamp for the last time to create a bit of a mess on the background.

I cut the images out after coloring them and placed them as seen above.

The watercolor art piece is matted with Basic Black card stock, and then mounted onto the card front using dimensionals.

The base card is Berry Burst cardstock, layered with Whisper White stamped with the "Brushstrokes" back ground stamp.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Crafting Forever, Gorgeous Grunge (now retired), Brush strokes background
Inks:  Lucky Limeade, Berry Burst, Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink, Fresh Fig, Watercolor Pencils
Papers: Berry Burst, Whisper White, Basic Black, Watercolor paper
Accessories:  Aqua painter, blender pen, dimensionals

Rose Wonder Swap Cards

Every month I swap 3 cards with another group.  This month the topic was "Roses" so used the Rose Wonder stamp set and coordinating framelits to made the swap cards.
The technique I used to color the Roses was the "Floating Reinker Technique" and I was absolutely amazed that I could remember it.

Using White Shimmer card stock, I embossed the Rose image with White embossing powder.
In paint palette containers, I prepared 3 or 4 drops of 3 different colors of re-inkers (diluted with 1 or 2 drops of water): Pool Party, Marina Mist and Dapper Denim.

After thoroughly wetting the embossed image I picked up each color, starting with the lightest color) with my aqua painter and just touched it to the wet surface.  It still amazes me to watch the color spread across the surface!

The leaves were die cut with the coordinating framelits.

Once dry, I fussy cut the Roses and mounted each one on a 3 by 3" piece of Whisper White card stock, which I matted with Pacific Point card stock.  A heart shaped pearl was placed in the center of the Rose and some dazzling details was added around the edges of the petals.  This was added to the card front piece which I had stamped with the background stamp "Brushstrokes" using Soft Sky ink.

The leaves which were added on either side of the flower, extended over the edge of the art piece.

The sentiment is from "Grateful Bunch".

Because the Rose is a fairly large flower, it looked better on a 5 by 5" card base.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Rose Wonder, Grateful Bunch,Brushstrokes
Inks: Pacific Point, Versa Mark Re-inkers (Pool Party, Marina Mist, Dapper Denim), Soft Sky
Papers: Whisper White, White shimmer paper, Pacific Point, Old Olive
Accessories: White embossing powder, Aqua painter, dimensionals, Rose Garden Thinlets, Flat backed heart pears (non SU), Dazzling Details, Pacific Point satin ribbon (retired)

Hello New Baby, Try Stampin' on Tuesday #314

The sketch challenge with Try Stampin' on Tuesday has a baby animals theme, but I decided to use an actual human baby.  The sketch is by Vicki

I started by punching one end of two pieces of 1 5/8 by 2 1/2" pieces of Whisper White card stock with the angle top tag punch. The edges of both tags were sponged with Mint Macaron ink.

Tag 1:  A strip of Up and Away DSP was attached to the bottom end.  Three clouds were die cut with the Up and Away Thinlet dies and the edges were sponged with Mint Macaron. They were attached to the tag with a glue dot.  The baby was added with dimensionals.
This tag was added to the card front with tombo- at an angle.

Tag 2:  Some  Pear Pizzaz glimmer paper was die cut with the oval die in the Timeless Tags Thinlets,  This was matted with a Whisper White oval tag that looks like sunrays. The center sentiment was stamped first and then die cut using the same thinlet. It was added to the Pear Pizzazz glitter backing using dimensionals. This unit was added to the Angle top tag using dimensionals.
The entire tag was attached to the card front with dimensionals, slightly overlapping the other tag, again at an angle

A 1/4" Mink Macaron double bow was added to the tag fronts.

The card base is Mint Macaron, layered with Whisper White, and then a piece of Whisper White stamped with Mint Macaron ink and the background stamp "Brush Strokes"

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Moon Baby, That's the Tag, Brushstrokes Background
Inks: Black Memento, Mint Macaron, copics
Papers: Mint Macaron, Whisper White, Pear Pizzazz glimmer paper, Up & Away DSP
Accessories: Up & Away Thinlets, Timeless Tags Thinlets, 1/4" Mint Macaron ribbon, Angle top tag punch, dimensionals, glue dots

Now it is your turn to create something using this sketch.  As usual you have 2 weeks to make something.  When done, upload it to the Try Stampin on Tuesday blog or its Facebook page. While you are either site, take some time to check the work of the other designers and leave them some comments.
