A Lotus Blossom Thank You - Pals Paper Arts #224

Sale-a-bration is almost over.  We're now into our last week. Because of that I want to use as many of the SAB products this week that I can.

Today I used a sketch by Pals Paper Arts and I used the Lotus Blossom stamp set.  I think this is one of my favourite SAB product.

 PPA244

SU has made stamping the images of the Lotus Flower so easy my numbering the tabs.  I just had to remember to start with my darkest colour first, then go to the medium colour for #2 and the lightest colour for #3.
The colours I used:  Pacific Point, Marina Mist, and Soft Sky.The images were cut out and mounted, using dimensionals,on a 1 3/8" Whisper White circle embossed with the Decorative Dots folder.  This was layered with a Marina Mist circle die cut using the Circle Framelits, and finally with a scalloped circle in Pacific Point (using the retired Scallop Circle die #2).  The latter was adhered using dimensionals.

The base card is Soft Sky cardstock, layered with Whisper White, and then Pacific Point embossed with the Spring Flower Garden folder.

A strip of Soft Sky cardstock covered with the same size Vellum from the Sheer Perfection Designer Vellum Stack.  Over that, in the middle a piece of White Jute ribbon was attached.

The image piece was attached to the top half of the card in the middle.

The sentiment, from the same stamp set, was stamped in Pacific Point in on Whisper White, punched with the 1" circle punch, layered with Marina mist punched with the small oval punch and layered again with Pacific Point punched with the Bracket Label punch.  Rhinestones were placed on both sides of the small Marina Mist oval.

As a last step I applied Dazzling details outlining the Lotus blossom flowers.

Thinking of You - Lotus Blossom - Sketch Fenzy Friday

It's been a while since I've made a card using the sketch challenge with Sketch Frency Friday here.  I used it to make a "thinking of you" card for my sister who was just released from hospital yesterday.  She walked to the hospital on Tuesday suffering with mild chest pain, but she was convinced that there was nothing wrong, and she would be sent home pronto.  However, the ECG was not normal, the heart rate too slow, so a decision was made to do an Angiogram.  This showed a 90% blockage of one of the coronary arteries.  So, 2 stents were put in that one artery, and she's feeling fine, but upset that her health is not 100% any more.
Since she lives so far away (Vancouver), I can't just hop on the bus and go and visit her, so I am sending a card instead - and following up with phone calls of course.

I used Elegant Eggplant as my base, layering it with Whisper White and then Painted Petals DSP.
In the middle of the card, I placed an Elegant Eggplant banner, upon which I placed a smaller piece of the Painted Petals DSP and Rose Red cardstock (embossed with the Lines folder).

The Lotus Blossom was stamped with Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum, and Wisteria Wonder (which had been stamped off once).  The stem is Wisteria Wonder.  The flower was punch with the 2 3/8" scallop circle punch.  I then used the Essentials Paper Piercing Pack (the circles) and the paper piercing tool to pierce a circle within the scalloped one.  The edges were sponged with Elegant Eggplant and then attached to the card with dimensionals.

Dazzling details was applied to the outline of the flower.

The sentiment is from Sheltering Trees and is stamped with Elegant Eggplant ink.

Class on Altered Notebooks and a Pen to Coordinate

Last night's class was a blast!  You should have heard the ooooh's and ahhh's!

The first task was to alter a notebook by covering it with DSP.  The DSP chosen was Painted Petals, and each student had a different pattern from that pack.

After reviewing the measuring, demonstrating the taping and corner techniques, and attaching the inside lining, they eagerly performed their tasks.  I was so proud of how well they did and how really good their notebooks looked.

The second part was to decorate the front.  And here I chose the Lotus Blossom stamp from SAB.  Because each student was working with different colour combinations, each student used 3 different ink colours for their flower (I chose their colours).  I had 2 stamp sets so that made the task easier.  At first they looked skeptical at the colours I had chosen, but when they started stamping, out came the oooh's and aaah's.  The triple stamping did not even defeat a brand new member to the group who had never stamped before.

After the image was attached to the front of the altered notebook, out came the Build a Bow punch, and each student made 2 bows and attached it below the image.  Several of the students ended up ordering the punch.

Here's a picture of 2 of the notebooks, with their coordinating pens.

The pens were altered in 2 ways.  First, being RSVP pens, the pens were taken apart, and a coordinating piece of DSP was wrapped around the ink tube part (I don't know what to call it).  This wrapped ink tube was reinserted into the pen with the seam directly over the writing on the pen, and the pen reassembled.  Going one step further, sticky strip was applied in a spiral direction along the length of the outside of the pen.  After removing the pink protective cover, the pen was rolled in different colours of microbeads depending on what their colour scheme was.  This absolutely astonished them and they were delighted at the results.

Happy Birthday Using the Lotus Blossom

This card is made as a special request from a staff member of the local hospital where I set up my table every 2 weeks.  She wanted a birthday card for her daughter, but could not give me too many specifics as to what she was looking for.  So, I put something together, and I hope she will like it.
I started by triple stamping the Lotus flower from the SAB Lotus blossom stamp using the following colours:  Melon Mambo, Calypso Coral and Blushing Bride.  The flowers were then cut out.

The Memories fun Frame was embossed and cut out, and using the Stamp-a-ma-jig stamped the sentiment in the middle of it, using Melon Mambo ink.  This frame was matted with gold foil paper.

The basic card is Coastal Cabana cardstock, layered with Whisper white and then Gold Soiree DSP.
Before adhering the Whisper white and DSP layer to the Coastal Cabana  cardstock a piece of  1/4 " Coastal Cabana ribbon (SAB)  from the Best Year Ever Accessory Pack was attached near the bottom.

The Memories Fun Frame was adhered near the top of the card, and the lotus blosom flowers added below the frame.  Dazzling details was added to the edges of each of the flowers.

Lotus Blossom Thank You

Around this time of year you can never have too many Thank You cards.  And ever since I saw the Lotus Blossom stamp in the Sale-a-bration catalogue, I've been eager to play with it.
However, to my chagrin, it wasn't the easiest stamp to work with.  I had to stamp it at least 4 times with different colour combinations until I was satisfied.

This is a 3 step stamping set, and SU has very nicely labelled in which order the flower should be stamped.
I started out with the darkest colour - Blackberry Bliss - followed by an Intermediate colour - Perfect Plum- and finally Wisteria Wonder.  But when I used the Wisteria Wonder, I stamped off once or else the colour was too intense.
The stem is also 2 step stamping, starting with Old Olive and finishing with Pear Pizzazz.
