The Twisted Ribbon Technique with Two Toned Flora - Happy Birthday

Sometimes one avoids doing certain things because of memories or feelings that are incurred when doing them.

The stamp set "Two -Toned Flora " using Two Step stamping to complete images.  Before photopolymer stamps, and before the Stamparatus, a tool called "Stamp-a-ma-jig" was used to line up the images.  I was not very successful in using that tool, so avoided stamp sets involving that technique.

However, that has now been changed. Not only do I have the stamparatus to use, but the stamps are also constructed in such a way that each stamp has a land mark to focus on for accurate placement.

Never have I felt so successful in using the technique of two step stamping.

Below is the card I made.  The flowers were stamped using the technique just discussed.

Another technique used with this card is the Twisted Ribbon Technique. Although I use the word "ribbon" I am actually using card stock or DSP. There are many tutorials on Pinterest on how to do this technique.  It is a great way to use up scraps of DSP or card stock.

I chose to use the Fitting Flora DSP as it will soon be retiring. This technique can be done to make it look like two different ribbons are being used, or one ribbon. For this card I used the two ribbon look.

The card base is a top fold Balmy Blue card stock, layered with Basic White.  This layer is embossed with the Quatrefoil Tile Embossing Folder,  The impressions made by this folder give the card a more polished appearance.

On the left of this embossed layer I added the 2" wide twisted ribbon panel. Because I used the Fitting Flora DSP which have the colours of Balmy Blue as well as Polished Pink in it. As a result,  I used Polished Pink to mat this panel.

As I mentioned, the flowers were stamped using the two step stamping method. For each flower there are 2 stamps - a relatively undetailed or smooth stamp, and a detailed stamp with markings. Two flowers were stamped with Balmy Blue ink; one with Polished ink. The accompanying greenery was stamped using Soft Succulent ink.

On Basic White card stock, each flower was stamped first with the smooth, unmarked stamp, stamping off once before stamping on the Basic white card stock. The detailed stamp was then used to stamp over the first image, this time using the same colour of ink but at full strength.  When matching up the two images, I focused on the center of the flower.  The center of each flower has some distinctive "open" markings that I matched up. This is the landmark that I was referring to earlier in this post. After the flowers were added to the card, I applied some white Pearlized Enamel to the centers.

The greenery was also stamped after stamping off once.

All images were die cut using their coordinating shapes of the Two Toned dies.  I added them approximately in the center of the card using dimensionals for the flowers only. The leaves were adhered to the card front directly.

Below the flowers is the birthday sentiment.  It is from "Something Fancy" and it is die cut using one of the dies from the coordinating die set.

To finish the card I adhered three In Color Opal gems.

Balloon Builder Unicorn Happy Birthday - a catalogue case

Last night I was having so much fun using the Balloon Builder stamp set using the new In Colours and DSP.  I cased 2 cards from the new catalogue from page 60.
This stamp is a carry over from the Occasions catalogue which finishes tomorrow.

I partially cased this particular card because at my craft show one of my customers asked if I had a unicorn stamp.  Well, here is a unicorn made using the Balloon Builder stamp set.

The base card is Sweet Sugarplum, layered with Playful Palette DSP stack.  The image is built on a piece of Whisper White card stock which was adhered to the DSP at an angle.
I used Sweet Sugarplum and Peekapoo Peach inks to create the unicorn, and then using the journaling pen to draw in the mouth and eye.
While stamping, I made a "boo-boo" in the lower right corner, so I punched 2 small balloons out of Flirty Flamingo cardstock using the small balloon punch

The sentiment was stamped with Black Memento on a small banner and adhered to the top right of the card.  A bow made of Whisper White Baker's twine was attached to the top of this banner using a glue dot.

Supplied Used:
Stamps: Balloon Builder
Inks: Black Memento, Sweet Sugar Plum, Peekaboo Peach
Papers: Sweet Sugar Plum, Whisper White, Playful Palette DSP stack, Flirty Flamingo
Accessories: White Baker's twine, small balloon punch

The Wilderness Awaits - card 3 - dog - a Swing Card

Card #3 of the series of stamps made with The Wilderness Awaits stamp set is a tilt card and features the dog.
I used a You Tube tutorial to make the tilt card, and it was fairly easy to make.

  • The base card is Crumb Cake cardstock whose edges have been sponged with Chocolate Chip ink.
  • For both the DSP along the left side, and on the front panel, I used the background stamp "It's Wild" and Crumb Cake ink.  I made one big piece and then cut the pieces to fit both areas.  Again the edges were sponged.
  • On the left side, I cut a piece of burlap ribbon in half and frayed the edges.  I then wrapped some vanilla/gold Baker's twine around it three times and tied it into a bow in the middle.
  • For the front panel, the stamped DSP was matted with chocolate chip cardstock and adhered to the panel.
  • The dog, which was coloured with ink and a blender pen, was die cut using the oval framelit die and the edges sponged. A frame was made using 2 sizes of the oval framelets using Crumb Cake cardstock.  The frame was well sponged with chocolate Chip ink and adhered to the front panel using tombo glue.
  • Flip the panel, and there is the sentiment.  Whisper White cardstock was matted with chocolate chip ink and the sentiment stamped with the same ink.  I found some paw prints that I also stamped with the sentiment, as well as on other parts of the card.

I don't know if this is the best picture, but I wanted to show you how the card swung back and forth.

Sprinkles of Life Happy Birthday

I finally had time to make a card using the Sprinkles of Life stamp set.  I had so many other things to do to get ready for tomorrow.

  • Base card is Wonder Watermelon folded on top.
  • The rest of the card is built on Whisper White which is the next layer.
  • A piece of "Cherry on Top" DSP stack was attached at each end of this layer.
  • On a separate piece of Whisper White, the ice cream cone was stamped with Tip Top Taupe and cut out.  Using a finger dauber, the same ink was used to sponge the sides and top to give the cone a 3D look.
  • Three colours were used for the cone:  Bermuda Bay, Wonder Watermelon, and Delightful Dijon.  The Build a Tree punch was used to punch out the cones.  Chocolate chip ink was used to add the chocolate sprinkles on each piece of ice cream.
  • The cherry was stamped with Real Red ink and punched out.
  • The sentiment was stamped in Bermuda Bay at the bottom of the card.  The cone was then attached, and the cones were adhered using dimensionals.
  • Before attaching this layer to the card base, a piece of 1" Watermelon Wonder scallop ribbon was attached to the left panel and tied in the middle with a piece of White Baker's Twine.
  • Dazzling details was added to each layer of ice cream, and a bit on the cone.  The cherry was attached on the top with a glue dot.

Sweet Stuff - A Birthday card for my Granddaughter

It's hard to believe, but my grandaughter turns 6 pretty soon, so I thought I would get a head start on making her birthday card.
With 2 older brothers, she is a real "girly girl"
, involved in gymnastics and ballet, and loves pink, purple and butterflies.  She nevcr wears jeans or pants and always wears a dress.  Quite a little character she is.
Here's her card.

The image was stamped with memento ink and , yes, coloured with blendabilities.  I really miss them, and since mine were still working, I thought, why not?  The image was punched with a 1 3/4" circle punch and attached to a SU shaker frame.  Some In Colour sequins were added, and the shaker covered it with a circle of Window sheet die cut using the circles framelits.  The Melon Mambo scallop circle frame was made using a circle punch and a scallop circle punch.

This shaker frame was added to a Perfectly Plum banner die cut using the Banner Framelit. This was added to a strip of  Park Lane DSP which was matted with Whisper White card stock.  The sentiment "Happy Birthday", from Teeny Tiny wishes, was stamped directly onto the DSP using basic black ink

The base card is Melon Mambo, layered with Whisper White card stock, and then a Perfectly Plum layer embossed with the Decorative dots folder.

I used the Bigz Alphabet die to make the number Melon Mambo "6"

The banner art piece was added to the DSP.  Then it was  embellishments time- embellishments hopefully she would  love - gltter on both sides of the DSP, glitter on the number 6, some glitter dots around the shaker unit, and then 2 butterflies (with bling in the middle) at the bottom of the banner.

Happy Birthday - Hand Stamped Sentiments #207

This week's challenge is a colour one.  I can't believe I'm doing another colour challenge as I haven't done one for a while.
For  the challenge with Hand Stamped Sentiments these are the colours to use:  Blackberry Bliss, Blushing Bride and Wild Wasabi.

The resultant Birthday card I made is one my son says I should make more of.

The lower edge of the  Whisper White cardstock was first  die cut using the Adorning Accents Edgelits.
Before stamping the flowers, the sentiment from "Butterfly Basics" was stamped with Blackberry Bliss in the middle of this die cut piece.

Using the stamp-a-ma-jig, the flowers from "Stippled Blossoms" were stamped first with Blackberry Bliss, and then with Blushing Bride.  The Leaves were stamped with Wild Wasabi, and again with the same colour of ink, only the stamp was stamped off once before stamping on the leaves.  Tiny pearls were placed in the center of each flower.

The Adorning Accents Edgelit was used again to die cut a piece of Blackberry Bliss, and this was attached to the lower edge of the card, allowing only a small amount to show.

Also used tiny pearls which were placed in the center of each flower

This panel was adhered to a Blushing Bride card base.

I hate this when it happens, but the linkz closed before iI could post it to the site.

Birthday Confetti Card - a CASE

This card I CASEd from Cindy Wilkinson here  I saw it on her blog this morning and I just loved it.

Some people, including Cindy, call this a faux shaker card, and I guess in some ways it is.  I call it a confetti card, because the window sheet pouch is filled with confetti (made by punching the Star border punch)

To make the card I started with a Tangerine Tango base layered with Birthday Bash DSP.

The confetti pouch is quite easy to make.  Take 2 pieces of  3 1/2 by 4 3/4" of window sheet and apply Washi tape on 3 sides of it.  To this pouch add confetti made by punching  pieces of Tangerine Tango, and Bermuda bay cardstock and punching them with the Star border punch.  For some bling I unstrung some gold sequins and added it to the mix (save 4 or 5 of them to decorate the outside of the card).  After the confetti has been added, seal the top with a piece of Washi tape.

Before attaching it to the card, I wrapped a piece of Calypso coral ribbon from the Best Year Ever Accessory pack (SAB) and tied it into a bow near the top.  The sentiment, stamped in Tangerine Tango and die cut with the banner framelit was added to the top with one edge slightly under the ribbon.  Dimensionals were used for this.

The sentiment was stamped using Bermuda Bay ink, and punched with the 2 1/2" circle punch, then layered with a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock which had been die cut with the Starburst framelit. The two were adhered together with dimensionals, and added to the card with dimensionals as well.
The sentiment was stamped a second time with Tangerine Tango, and the banner "sentiment" was cut out and attached to the punched out one with two small pieces of dimensionals.

The confetti pouch was attached to the card with Vellum tape.  If you don't have any of that you can use glue dots.  Snail adhesive will show through the window sheet.

Here's a side view that shows the confetti in the pouch and the sentiment attached to the card.

The last thing I did was take those extra sequins and add them several places on the front of the card.

Here's a list of supplies I used:
