Gears Happy Birthday - SUO Challenge # 215

The challenge this month at SUO Challenges is "birthdays", a timely challenge for me because I have a lot of birthdays in the next two months.  There were 3 family members celebrating birthdays on the same day!

Cards for guys have always been a challenge, but with the new "Geared Up Garage" with the coordinating framelits plus DSP this task is much easier.

The colours for this card were easy to pick.  I  selected the DSP I first, and chose my colour palette from that.  Not only did I choose my colour palette, but I was also able to use the coordinate framelets to die cut images directly from the DSP.  I did that for all the cog gears and the gas can  The cars were also obtained directly from the DSP, only I fussy cut them, although I realized later  that I could have used the framelits. Alternately I could have stamped the images and then die cut them.

This Tranquil Tide Z Fold card base is 5 1/2 by 11" scored at 5 1/2 and again at 8".  The 1 1/4" by 11" band is also scored the same.

Each of the sections is layered with Very Vanilla and then one of 3 patterns of the DSP.  The band is also layered with Very Vanilla and then mainly gray DSP which was embossed with the Maps etc Embossing folder.

All cardstock, DSP, die cut and punched images were sponged with Basic Gray ink.  This was the most labour intensive part of this card.

The birthday sentiment is from "Better Together".  It is stamped in Tranquil Tide ink and then punched using the Everyday Labels punch.

One of the cars was adhered to the band; the second on the back portion of the car. The die cut cog wheels were placed on different locations and a car key metal element is added by each car.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Geared Up Garage, Better Together
Inks:  Tranquil Tide, Basic Gray
Papers:  Tranquil Tide. Very Vanilla, Geared Garage DSP
Accessories:  Maps etc Embossing Folder, Classic Garage Metal Elements, Gear Garage Framelits, Everyday Label Punch

Happy 45th Anniversary

At the end of this month I have been invited to help celebrate the 45th wedding anniversary of a close cousin of a friend of mine.

I felt she and her husband deserved a very special card, so I pulled out my embossing folders, embossing powder, ribbon, stamps, and I made some very special flowers for this card.

To take this picture I placed the card and matching envelope in a clump of white geraniums.  I had difficulty getting the right lighting conditions inside.

The card base is Powder Pink embossed with the Spark embossing folder.  This folder was inked with Powder Pink ink prior to putting it through the Big Shor resulting in a pink background with white raised areas. A swipe with the ink pad across this embossed piece and the white raised areas were now pink.

The center of the card is comprised of two matted panels overlapping each other.  The panel at the back is Whisper White embossed with the new Striped Scallop Texture Embossing folder; the front panel is the lovely Petal Promenade DSP Bothe are matted with Powder Pink card stock

Both panels are adhered to the card front, overlapping each other and slightly off setting them.

Near the bottom I added a strip of Powder Pink which has a strip of card stock punched with the Decorative Ribbon punch.  I then added some Whisper White polka dot Organza ribbon and tied it in a bow on the right side.

The sentiment, from Better Together, was embossed in Silver and punched with the 2 1/2" circle punch.  The numbers "45" were stamped  from the retired "Metro Type Alphabet" set, embossed in Silver and fussy cut. The circle was adhered to the card front using dimensionals.

The flowers were stamped, colored with blendabilites, die cut using Beautiful Layers thinlets, shaped and then had Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds added to each.  Three leaves were also stamped, colored and due cut.

Once dry the flowers were added to the upper right sentiment circle with the leaves added as shown on the card.

Oh, I also embossed the flap of the envelope.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Beautiful Promenade, Better Together, Metro Type Alphabet
Inks:  Powder Pink, Black Memento, Blendabilities (Petal Pink, Old Olive, light and dark), Versa Mark
Papers:  Powder Pink, Whisper White, Petal Promenade DSP
Accessories:  Sparkle Embossing Folder, Striped Scallop Texture Embossing Folder, 5/8" White Polka Dot Organza ribbon, 2 1/2" circle punch, Silver embossing powder, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds, Dimensionals, Beautiful Layering Thinlets

Better Together Using Springtime Impression Thinlets

These thinlets that coordinate with the Abstract Impressions stamp set create a lacy pocket on the front of a card, or can be embossed to create a unique card front.

These thinlets also include a butterfly - to compensate for the retirement of the Bold Butterfly thinlets when the new Annual catalogue went live.  You'll  see the butterfly in the next post.

Starting with a top fold Whisper White base, I added a Crumb Cake layer embossed with the Subtle Texture Embossing Folder.  Don't you just love this texture?

In the lower left corner I added a delicate white floral die cut made using  the Springtime Impressions Thinlet - and a single flower at the top.

Some 1/2" white satin ribbon was added near the lower card, and the sentiment, from "Better Together" added over that with dimensionals.  Some metallic pearls were added on each side of the sentiment and randomly in the centers of some flowers.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Better together
Inks:  Crumb Cake
Papers:  Whisper White, Crumb Cake
Accessories:  Subtle Texture Embossing Folder, Springtime Impression Thinlets, Metallic Pearls, Dimensionals, 1/2" white satin ribbon

Heartland Birthday

Happy Mother's Day everyone.
I am sitting out on the patio enjoying the early morning sunshine.  Weather predictions are "a heat wave" for the next couple of days.  Quite a change from the ice storm of 3 weeks ago.

Today's card is another masculine card - featuring the Heartland stamp set.  The images of this stamp set remind me so much of my early roots on Canada.  My family's first placement in this country was on a farm.

I sometimes wonder what I ever did without the Stamparatus.  It seems I am using it to stamp almost everything, mainly because of the clear, crisp images I getting.

The image of the barn was no exception.  After stamping it with Black Memento in, I coloured it using diluted Brusho crystals and an Aqua painter., and did a light wash on the sky and foreground.  Some Clear Wink of Stella on parts of the building really brightened it up.

Oval framelits were used to die cut and mat this art piece and they were adhered together using dimensionals after sponging the edges with Soft Suede ink.

Although the base card is Soft suede layered with Plank embossed Whisper White, I chose to mat the art piece oval with Chocolate Chip card stock.  The DSP is Soft Suede matted with Soft Suede card stock.

The sentiment is from "Better Together" and this die cut oval was added to the card front using dimensionals.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Heartland, Better Together
Inks:  Black Memento, Soft Suede, Brusho Crystals
Papers:  Soft Suede, Whisper White, Soft Suede DSP, Chocolate Chip
Accessories:  Plank Embossing Folder, Layering Oval Framelits, Dimensionals, Clear Wink of Stella, Aqua painter, Stamparatus

Boxed card set using One Sheet Wonder

For the longest tine I did not know what "One Sheet Wonder" meant, and a poll from my class determined that they had never heard of it as well.  So I did a Pinterest search and had my "Ah-ah" moment, so I gave it a try.

There are several templates available, so I decided to use one for an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of card stock/DSP
.
This gives ideas on how to make 7 cards from this one sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of DSP or card stock.  It's also a project I want to do in class. But first I wanted to go through the process myself.

For class I used a 8 1/2 by 11 piece of DSP from "Whole Lot of Lovely"but there is the option  for stamping my own. Below are the 7 cards I made.  The book to make the card will be shown at the end of this post.

Card #1:

Card base is Thick Whisper White card stock, with a strip of 1 1/2" Whisper White matted with Calypso Coral card stock added  to the card front.  The flower is from "Garden in Bloom"

Card #2

Card basis is Tangerine Tango.  The triangular piece of DSP has a strip of the reverse of the DSP added to the edge.  A 2 by 3 1/2" piece of Whisper White cardstock punched with the Scallop top tag punch is stamped with the sentient etc from the "Garden in Bloom" stamp set.  The ribbon is shimmer pool party held in place with a staple.

Card #3

The other half of the triangular piece of DSP is added  to a Tranquil Tide base.  Again, a strip of the reverse side of the DSP is added along the edge of the DSP.  The sentiment is stamped on a 2 by 3 1/2" tag with a piece of Pool Party shimmer ribbon through the top of the tag held in place with a staple.  Sentient is from "Better Together" , flower from "Garden in Bloom"

Card #4

This Tranquil Tide top fold card is layered with Whisper White embossed with the Petal Burst embossing folder.  The 3D flower is from "Garden in Bloom"

Card #5

The Thick Whisper White card has it's card front embossed with the Layered Leaves embossing folder.  The DSP is matted with Basic Back card stock before adhering it to the card front.

Card #6

The Tranquil Tide top fold card has a strip of Soft Suede card stock added to the left side of the DSP with a Pear Pizzazz ribbon and bow adhered over top of that.  The sentiment from "Garden in Bloom" is die cut with the Layering Oval framelit.  It is matted with a scallop Tranquil Tide oval.

Card #7

For the final card the DSP is cut into four 1 by 2 3/4" pieces and adhered to a Tranquil Tide piece of card stock and then Whisper White.  This panel is added to a Tangerine Tango cardstock base.  The sentiment is from "Better Together" is matted with Tranquil Tide card stock and added to the lower right of the art piece.

Birthday Flag Fold card

The challenge with the Canadian Die Cut Exchange group this month is the Flag Fold card.  This is a fold I have never done before  so I used a tutorial here

This was also an opportunity to provide a sneak peak of the Pop and Fizz SAB DSP which will be available on Jan. 3 free with a purchase of $60.

The base of the card is Bermuda Bay layered with Whisper White.  I fussy cut 2 bottles from the DSP, and punched about 9 scallop circles to mimic fizz.  The bottles and the fizz were covered with a clear acrylic sealer (Crystal Effects).  The sentiment in the middle from "Better Together" and is stamped in Bermuda Bay. Since one of the colours of the DSP is Bermuda Bay it's perfect for the inside of the card. It was scored and folded similar to a concertina card and was adhered to the card base only by the end panels. See the picture of the top view below.

Four 2 by 2 Bermuda Bay squares (flags) lined with 1 3/4" DSP are attached to the folds as shown in the picture below.

The 5th panel is lined with Whisper White cardstock and has a sentiment stamped on it, as well as images from the DSP. This one was adhered to the middle fold.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Better Together
Inks:  Bermuda Bay, Black Memento
Papers:  Bermuda Bay, Pop and Fizz DSP (SAB), Whisper White
Accessories:  Clear Acrylic Sealer (non SU) 7/8" scallop circle punch, scoring tool

Masculine Happy Birthday - Try Stampin' on Tuesday or Not #334

At Try Stampin' on Tuesday, the theme with the  sketch challenge  was to make a masculine card. Usually Masculine cards are hard for me to make, but this one was easy.  Must have been the sketch, which was by Dawn

The Basic Black card stock is layered with Whisper White card stock embossed with the Hexagon Dynamic Embossing Folder.
On the left side a 2" piece of one pattern of the  Urban Understanding DSP (retired) with a second pattern in a scalloped edge was adhered just beside it.  A 1/8" strip of Basic Black card stock was placed over the seam.

Three medium punched silver foil stars with a small embellishment adhered in the middle of each, was added to the largest DSP panel.

The sentiment, from "Better Together" was embossed with silver embossing powder on Whisper White card stock, matted with Basic Black card stock, and added to the lower right card front using dimensionals.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Better Together
Ink:  Versa Mark
Papers:  Basic Black, Whisper White, Urban Underground DSP (retired), Silver Foil
Accessories:  Tasteful Trim Die, Medium star punch, Urban Underground embellishments, Hexagon Dynamic Embossing Folder, Silver embossing powder.

Now its your turn to create something using Dawn's sketch.  Then upload it either to the Try Stampin on Tuesday or not blog here or to the Facebook  site here
