Need for Speed Birthday Wishes - The Paper Players 119

What a miserable weekend we have had - rain, rain, and more rain - and today it`s about to get worse.  I`m sure all of you have been following the path of Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to merge with the cold front coming from the north and become a ``Frankenstorm``.  Today the rain is expected to get heavier, with wind gusts up to 70 km per hour, and this is to be sustained for 24 hours at least.  Not a day to be travelling that`s for sure.  I just hope the power doesn`t go out!

For the challenge with the Paper Players here  I decided to make a masculine birthday card.  At all the craft shows I have done this season, the most frequent request has been for masculine birthday cards and my supply is running low.

 

Technique:  The Cajun Craze cardstock base is layered with Sahara Sand cardstock which was embossed with the Houndstooth Folder and the edges sponged with Cajun Craze ink.

The strip of designer paper is from Comfort Cafe.  Scalloped edges of Cajun Craze was attached to the top and bottom edges of this paper.

The banner is Cajun Craze card stock.

Image: The All Terrain Vehicle was stamped with Midnight Muse ink on Very Vanilla card stock.  It was die cut using the Labels Framelit and the edges sponged with Cajun Craze ink.  It was attached to the banner using dimensionals.

Just for You - Need for Speed - The Friday Mashup #60

"Boys will be boys" - the theme with the Friday Mashup this week here.  And when I think of boys I think of racing cars.
I live quite close to 2 major racing tracks, so car racing is part of the culture here.  So this card might just be appropriate for a special man from this area.

The car was stamped several times backwards from the main image to give the car the illusion of motion and speed.  It was colored with markers and an aqua painter.

Need for Speed - Challenge 174 LNS

The challenge this week with the LNS group is Masculine Cards.

This card features a jet plane taking off.  Can't you almost hear the whine of the engines? The motion effect was made by repeatedly stamping the same image backwards from the main image.

This card reminds me of my father and of my hometown.
Not that my father was a pilot, but he worked as a civilian at an Air Force Base where planes like this were constantly taking off and landing. The stories he would tell!!
And, in the town where I grew up, our house was directly underneath the flight path of these jets.
Sometimes the noise was deafening!  But after a while you didn't hear it anymore- your ears somehow adjusted. Visitors would comment on the noise "How can you stand this?", but like I said, we didn't hear it anymore.

My Dad has been gone for quite a while.  Nevertheless,  Dad, this card is for you.

Need for Speed Circle Card - Rubber Redneck Color Challenge #46

I really needed to make some birthday cards - especially for girls, so I used this color challenge with Rubber Redneck to create a rather unusual birthday card.  It's a circle, that is also part telescope.

Accessories: Coluzzle to cut a 4 1/4" circle, a 4" circle, 3" circle die, Circle die #2, Decorative Label Punch, Metallic brads, 1/8" daffodil delight taffeta ribbon, rhinestones, sewing maching, blender pen, dazzling diamonds, dimensionals, square lattice embossing folder, Melon Mambo embossing powder, Versamarker

2 ( 4 ") circles were cut using the Colozzle - one in Very Vanilla, one in Tempting Turqoise.  The Very Vanilla one was  3/4  covered with the designer paper ; the other 1/4 with embossed melon mambo paper.  Then with the sewing maching the edges were stitched, as was the seam where the 2 papers met.
The Tempting Turquoise 4" circle was matted with a 31/2" circle of designer paper, and then with a 3" Very Vanilla circle.
The image of the car was colored using a blender pen and ink pads, then cut out and mounted on the inside 3" circle with dimensionals. This 3" circle was attached to the inner circle with a single metallic brad on the lower side. This allows the 3" circle to swing out and expose a journalling surface.
Once this was done, the 4" circle was mounted onto the 4 1/2" circle.  The outer edge of the circle was embossed with Melon Mambo embossing powder.
The circles were then placed on top of each other, matching the 4" ones.  A metallic brad was inserted through all layers of paper on the left hand side. This allows the top circle to slide open and expose the inside.

Here you see the top circle swinging out of the way and exposing the focal point inside.  Notice the brad below the car.

The focal image swings out of the way to expose a spot to write a message.

The card fits into a standard envelope.
