Inspiring Iris with Many Medallions background - Paper Craft Crew Challenges #466 Theme Challenge

This week the challenge with the Paper Craft Crew Challenge #466 is to create a card/project with a mosaic pattern on it.

To make a card for this challenge, I pulled out 2 retired items - a stamp set "Inspiring Iris" and a die "Many Medallions", and put them together.  Below is the result:

Iris' are one of my favourite spring flowers.  I must have had Iris' on my mind when I chose a stamp for this card .  I had just been to the store where I bought some Iris bulbs to plant in my garden as soon as it is safe to do so.  That may not be any time soon as I just looked out the window and would you believe it is snowing!!! (yuck).

Most of the Iris' in my garden are a dark purple (almost black) with the exception of a variegated one which is almost a florescent pale purple.  For this card I decided to stamp my Iris in Highland Heather ink, to coordinate with the Highland Heather card base with the leaves in Granny Apple Green.
The fine tip of three different colours of markers was used to add colour to the background.
When finished, the stamped image was trimmed to a 2 1/2" square and matted with Highland Heather.

The background was created by die cutting a Medallion die in Basic White card stock and adding it to the Highland Heather card base.

After adhering the two layers together, I added a piece of 1/4" Gorgeous Grape mini striped ribbon towards the left front. The image was added to the front using dimensionals.

The sentiment is from " Happy Thoughts".  It is stamped in Highland Heather ink and die cut using a Stitched So Sweetly die.

To finish the card, I added some Iridescent Rhinestones to the card front.

On the inside I wove a piece of ribbon through one strip of the medallion die cut.

Supplies Used:

Stamps:  Inspiring Iris, Positive Thoughts

Inks:  Highland Heather Black Memento, Granny Apple Green

Papers:  Highland Heather, Basic White

Accessories:  Many Medallion dies, Stitched So Sweetly die, 1/4" Gorgeous Grape mini striped ribbon, Iridescent rhinestones, Stamparatus, Dimensionals.

Triple Fold Card with Merry Moose and "Tis the Season - Paper Craft Crew Tic Tac Toe Challenge #400

I'm taking a break from On Stage activities to write a  blog post about the Fun Fold card I created for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge for the Paper Craft Crew Challenge #400

Although there were many options I chose to make from upper left diagonally to lower right is a Christmas  masculine card, featuring 'Tis the Season DSP.

This trifold card is one of the better ways to highlight DSP.  I ended up using 4 different patterns of the "Tis the Season DSP

A 5 1/2 by 11" piece of  Thick White Card stock base was scored at 1 3/4, 5 1/2, and 9 3/4 . A bone folder was used to burnish the three folds, one in the middle, and the two end ones overlapping each other. A different pattern of the DSP was added to each fold

Pattern #1:  card front 3 1/2 by 5 1/4"

Pattern #2: 1 1/4 by 5 1/4"

Pattern #3:  1 by 5 1/4"

I added a 4th pattern of the DSP as on the inside.

The card is kept closed with a 1 1/4 by 11" strip of Shaded Spruce card stock bellyband with a 1/2" strip of copper foil in the center.

The belly band was decorated to reflect the season and ,according to my son, is perfect to give to a guy.

All of the elements are built on a Stitched So Sweetly Shaded Spruce die cut.

Two Moose were stamped on a separate piece of Whisper White card stock.  The male moose was stamped with full strength Soft Suede ink; the female (I cut the antlers off) was stamped after stamping off first.  Both were punched with the Moose Punch.

The tree was stamped with Shaded Spruce ink and fussy cut.

The globe of the world was die cut using copper foil using the Map of the World dies, and the sentiment, after embossing with copper embossing powder was punched with the Classic Label punch.

Before adhering the Moose to the die cut some texture paste was added to the bottom to mimic snow. Some dazzling diamonds was added to the paste to give it some added sparkle.

When this paste was dry, both Moose were adhered to the die cut with dimensionals with the tree and globe tucked behind them.  The sentiment was added with a glue dot at one end.

The embellished die cut was added to the belly band with dimensionals.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Merry Moose
Inks:  Soft Suede, Versa Mark, Shaded Spruce
Papers:  "Tis the Season DSP, Thick Whisper White, Whisper White, Copper Foil
Accessories:  Copper embossing powder, Classic Label Punch, Moose punch, Stitched So Sweetly die, World Map die, Texture Paste

Inspiring Iris - two cards

The Iris is the genus of 260 -300 species of showy plants which takes it name from the Greek goddess who rode rainbows.
The most familiar one is the tall 'bearded' variety which is easy to grow and blooms in June. They attract butterflies and hummingbirds and make wonderful cut flowers.

Today I made 2 cards featuring this beautiful flower.  Both cards are fun folds - one a double triangle flip fold and the other a "W" or inside pop up fold.

The basic card is Blushing Bride where the top layer is cut into 2 triangles.  See video here
Well Dressed designer paper is adhered to one of the triangles; retired Vellum DSP on the other.

The image of the Iris is coloured with Stampin' Blends and then embossed using the Stitched So Sweetly Die and the embossing mats. The Whisper White art piece is then matted with a die cut Gorgeous Grape rectangle.

This is added to the bottom half of the card front.

The sentiment, highlighted from a complete sentiment from the same stamp set with a Basic Black marker, is added below the flower with dimensionals.

Here the frontlower triangle is opened.  A piece of Whisper White card stock is adhered to the inside of the art piece.

Then top triangular piece is opened to reveal the inside

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Inspiring Iris
Ink:  Black Memento, Stampin Blends (Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, Old Olive, Seabreeze Spray
Papers:  Blushing Bride, Whisper White, Well Dressed DSP, Vellum Specialty DSP, Gorgeous Grape
Accessories:  Stitched So Sweetly dies, Dimensionals, Dimensionals.

My second card is a "W" fold or an inside panel pop out card

The Iris is coloured with Highland Heather stampin' blends, with  darker areas shaded with Gorgeous Graps.  The stems and leaves are coloured with Old Olive.   Around the flower, a  Seaside Breeze Stampin' Blend provided some colour and contrast.  Sparkle was added to the flower with Glitter Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds.

Measurements:
Highland Heather 4 1/4 by 11" scored at 5 1/2" for form a side folding card
Whisper White  3 pieces 4 by 5 1/4" (one for the front, and 2 for inside)
Well Dressed DSP  3 3/4 by 5" (layer for card front) 3 by 3 3/4" die cut with largest of scallop rectangle die from Stitched So Sweetly set
Whisper White 3 by 4" - stamp and colour image, then die cut with stitched so sweetly die
Whisper White scrap to stamp sentiment and die cut with Ornate frame die.

Inside:
Highland Heather 2 by 11" scored at 2 3/4, 5 1/2, and 8 1/4".  Fold in half at 5 1/2" score, with outer edges folding outward to form the letter W.
Highland Heather - 4 pieces 2 1/4 by 2 3/4"  -mat for image pieces
Whisper White - 2 pieces 2 by 2 1/2"
Well Dressed DSP - 2  pieces 2 by 2 1/2"

Add both pieces of 4 by 5 1/4" of Whisper White pieces to inside of card.
Adhere both ends of "W" strip to outside edges of each side.
Stamp and colour images on each of the two 2 1/2 by 2" pieces of Whisper White and along with the two DSP of the same dimensions, mat with the larger pieces of Highland Heather.
Adhere these completed pieces to the scored "W" strip using tear and tape adhesive.

Stampin' Blends were used to colour the floral images in both of these frames.

Looking from the top you can see the W, which in this case is side ways.
