A Snowy Forest Background - with lights

For the last couple of weeks I have been challenging myself with lights!

Yes, lights!  On cards, in shadow boxes, wherever!  You've probably seen a couple of shadow boxes I have made.

Today I made a card that lights up.

Using the tree stamp from Winter Woods, I stamped one tree using Mossy Meadow ink on a separate piece of Shimmer White and without reinking the stamp I stamped 2 more trees on a 4 by 5 1/4" piece of Shimmer White - the card front. The first tree was die cut , and using a sponge I dabbed Frosty White shimmer paint lightly over the tree as well as on the other two trees.  When dry it was added to the card front using dimensionals. Using a 1/8" hand held punch, I punched a hole at the top of the tree and covered it on the back with some vellum and on the front with an acrylic star.  This is where the light will shine through.

The sentiment was embossed in gold.

Using square framelits a 4 by 5 1/4" piece of  gold foil was made into a frame and then added to the card front.

Behind the card front, in a raised bed lies the battery operated single light operated by a press switch (see "press here" on the card front).

When this switch is pressed, the card lights up and it looks like there's a blizzard happening!

This layer is adhered to a top folding Thick Whisper White card stock base.

You Are Amazing - Layering with Squares

Do you ever start out doing something, and end up doing something else?  That's what happened to me today.
I was thinking of the spotlight technique, so thought I would give an idea I had a try.
What I ended up doing was a layering techniqe using framelits - on two cards from the same stamp set "Remarkably Yours"

For the first card, I used the new squares framelits

After stamping and colouring the image, I die cut the image using 2 sizes of square framelits.  After sponging the edges, I rebuilt the imaage using dimensionals , one layer with the first square, 2 stacked images with the middle square.

Joyful Christmas

So far, so good.  I have been able to stay focused on making Christmas cards.  This is my second one.

The image of the Poinsettia was stamped with Versa Mark twice and embossed with gold embossing powder.  One entire flower was coloured with Cherry Cobbler blendabilities; only the middle flower was coloured in the second flower.  The middle flower was then cut out and attached to the larger flower using dimensions.  I put some gold glitter in the center.

The leaves were also embossed with gold embossing powder and coloured with Old Olive blendabilities, and then cut out.  They were attached to the underside of the flower using glue dots.

The completed flower was attached to a circle of Champagne glitter paper die cut using the Circles framelit.

The base card is Real Red, layered with Whisper White embossed with On Point embossing folder.  The designer paper was die cut using the square framelits and layered with Real Red card stock.  At one end is a strip of Old Olive paper embossed with the polka dot embossing folder.  A strip of red scalloped cardstock is attached to the outer side of the panel.  The ribbon is red satin.

Flower Shop Mother's Day - Try Stampin' on Tuesday 146

Yes, I realize it's only December so what am I doing making Mother's Day Cards?  Just getting ahead of myself I think.  I made this card using the sketch challenge with Try Stampin' on Tuesday here
The challenge had the extra twist of using some gold in the card. It was the gold that made me think of making a Mother's Day card.

 

The flowers were stamped with  Crisp Cantalope ink and punched out using the Pansy punch.  I then die cut a little leaf in Gumball Green cardstock using a sizzlet die and the Big Shot.  These were arranged on a square of Whisper White cardstock die cut with the Square Sizzlet, which was matted with gold foil card stock.  One flower is adhered directly to the cardstock, and the second using stampin' dimensionals.
The center of each flower is a gold circle.  I embossed a piece of Whisper White cardstock with gold embossing powder and punched out the centers of the flowers with the Owl Builder punch.  On top of this gold center is a small pearl embellishment.
The base card is Pistachio Pudding layered with Very Vanilla card stock, and then Venetian Romance designer paper.  In the middle is a strip of Pistachio Pudding card stock with a strip of punched gold foil paper at the top and bottom end.  In the middle of this strip I placed a piece of ruffled Pistachio Pudding ribbon.
The image panel was attached to the card using dimensionals.
