Daisy Lane #2 Another Sneak Peak Annual Catalogue

This is the second card made with the new Daisy Lane stamp set and Daisy Punch. Please excuse the picture.  For some reason this one is out of focus.

Do you recognize the vase?  It's the hot air balloon from "Lift Me Up" turned upside down and the top cut off.

The stem and leaves were stamped with Old Olive onto the Whisper White layer first and then the vase was added.  Each side of the Whisper White layer was embossed with one of the paired floral embossing folders.

The two smaller flowers were stamped first with Crushed Curry and then rolled into the Pumpkin Pie ink.  The small daisy was stamped in a similar manner.  All three were fussy cut and then added along the stamped stem.  The Daisy looked kind of 'bare' so I stamped another Daisy directly onto the Whisper White and added the fussy cut Daisy on top of that.  A flower center was added.

The finished arrangement looked incomplete, so I die cut some greenery using the dies from the Cake Soiree stamp set and added then around the blooms. Some thick white Baker's twine coloured partly with Pumpkin Pie ink was tied into a bow and added to the top of the vase.

Of course, no card is complete without some bling, so I added some dazzling diamonds to the center of the smaller flowers.  Some self adhesive sequins were also added randomly on the front.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Daisy Lane, Lift Me Up
Inks:  Black Memento, Stampin Blends (Lovely Lipstick, Night of Navy_, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Call Me Clover
Papers:  Call Me Clover, Whisper White, Old Olive
Accessories:  Lift Me Up Framelits, Cake Soiree framelits, Pair Floral Embossing Folders, Self adhesive sequins, Dimensionals, Thick white Baker's Twine, Flower centers, Dazzling Diamonds.

Congratulations on Your New Home

Sometimes  a stamp set surprises you, and this stamp set with its' coordinating die really surprised me!  In a good way that is!
When I picked it up to use it I really questioned my sanity in purchasing these items.  But rather than continuing to chastise myself I instead challenged myself.

Here's what I came up with:

First I created a background using the Brusho Crystals, choosing a homogenous layered approach - blue for the sky and green for the grass.  I chose other stamps to bring definition to the sky and ground.
For  the clouds I stamped images from "Lift Me Up"; the grass elements from "Sheltering Tree"

Once the background was complete I die cut the outline of the house from the Color Theory DSP, and embossed the lower part of the house with the Brick embossing folder.  A bit of sponging with Basic Gray ink brought the brick pattern out a bit better.

The house itself seemed a bit plain, so I added a die cut window/window frame and door/door frame
from the Home Sweet Home Thinlets.  Some Daffodil Delight card stock behind  the window made it look like someone was home.  The décor elements of the door were highlighted with a white gel pen.

Now here is where the Welcoming Home Framelit really surprised me!

I first used the stamp set to stamp the flowers in Sweet Sugar plum ink, and when I die cut them I quickly realized this was a quick way to die cut many flowers at once.  I did not use all the flowers I die cut so I was able to save some for future use.

The front of the house was decorated with a potted plant on each side of the door.  The pots, stamped and die cut separately, were coloured with the Pumpkin Pie blendability and the other die cut stem and flowers were added separately.  The new adhesive sheets were very helpful in adhering these pieces.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Home Life, Lift Me Up, Sheltering Tree
Inks:  Brusho crystals, Dapper Denim, Old Olive, Sweet Sugar plum, Pumpkin Pie Blendability, Basic Gray, Black Memento
Papers:  Dapper Denim, Whisper White, Color Theory DSP, Always Artichoke, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight, Watercolor Paper
Accessories:  Welcome Home Framelits, Brick Wall Embossing Folder, Sweet Home Framelits, Adhesive sheets,

A Thankful Swan - Fab Friday #105

Swan Lake arrived on my door step yesterday, and I wanted to play with it immediately! The sketch challenge with Fab Friday provided me with the opportunity to do so. Seeing the swan in the water, with the little ones by her side immediately brought back memories of seeing the real birds on Lake Ontario when I was staying with friends. It was a cool day, and the wind was strong, but the swan and her goslings' swam bravely on.  Memories --funny things aren't they?

Card:
Marina Mist card stock, layered with Whisper White and then Scenic Scenery DSP formed the basis of this A2 card.
The Serene Scenery layer was embossed with the Sea side embossing folder making it look like waves on a lake.

Art Piece:
The images were stamped with Black Memento onto a Whisper White circle die cut using the largest of the Circle Stitched die. Part of the right side of the die was trimmed as per the sketch above. Masking was used to place the images where I wanted them and then they were coloured with ink pads and a blender pen.  The water lily was stamped on a separate scrap piece of Whisper White, coloured, cut out and adhered to the bottom of the circle.
The sky was sponged while the clouds were stamped using the cloud stamp from the "Lift Me Up" stamp set. Each cloud was accented with Smoky Slate ink.

The art piece was adhered to the card front using dimensionals.

Sentiment and Embellishment:
The "thank you" was stamped with Marina Mist ink on a piece of Pool Party card stock, punched with the Classic Label punch, and adhered to a strip of Whisper White.
Before attaching this sentiment label to the card front, a small piece of gold metallic ribbon (SAB) was fan folded and adhered to the wrong side near the right end.
Dimensionals were used to adhere this to the card front and the art piece.
A bow made of 1/8" Stitched Smoky Slate ribbon was added with a glue dot.

What's a card without glitter?  So some Clear Wink of Stella was added in some places.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Swan Lake, Lift Me Up
Inks: Black Memento, Smoky Slate, Tangelo Twist, Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, Flirty Flamingo, Marina Mist, Pacific Point
Papers: Marina Mist, Whisper White, Serene Scenery DSP, Stitched Shape Dies, Classic Label punch, 3/8" silver metallic ribbon, 1/8" stitched smoky slate ribbon, Clear Wink of Stella, dimensionals, glue dots, blender pen, Sea side embossing folder.

Happy Birthday - an Interactive card that Lights up - Just Add Ink #341

The challenge with Just Add Ink is to create a project that has an interactive element in it, whether it be a shaker, slider, pop up, or a light up element.
For about 3 months I have been working with putting lights in cards and have been moderately successful.  The technology initially intimidated me (and it still does) but I move forward, now using easier technology.
This card has a battery cell and a thin wire that has seven tiny lights along its lengths. Tiny holes are punctured in the card front to allow the light to shine through.

The card front is Night of Navy, layered with Whisper White and then Serene Scenic DSP.

The Lift Me Up stamp set and coordinating Up & Away thinlets were used to create the art piece of this card.  The large hot air balloon was die cut in Night of Navy cardstock, with the following colours built behind it: calypso coral, night of navy, peekaboo peach, and marina mist.

The medium balloon was stamped with Night of Navy ink; the smaller balloon in Calypso coral.  Both were die cut and adhered to the card front.

Before adhering the large balloon, some clouds were stamped, die cut and added to the sky.  The balloon was then added using dimensionals.

After the lights were positioned behind the card front, some holes were poked in some strategic areas.  If you look closely you can see the pin prick holes.

A switch at the side turns the light on and off.

Isn't that terrific?

Supplies Used:
Stamp: Lift Me Up
Ink: Basic Gray, Night of Navy, Calypso Coral
Papers: Night of Navy, Whisper White, Serene Scenery DSP, Calypso Coral, Peekaboo Peach
Accessories: Up & Away Framelits, dimensionals, battery cell and wires with lights

Cost Effective Altered Journal for SUO Challenges

The challenge this week with SUO Challenges is to create something using the "stuff" from the Occasions and/or SAB catalogue. Since I had products from both catalogues I decided to use both to alter a journal. Because I sell the journals, I like to keep the cost down as much as possible by purchasing inexpensive journals (and make them look like a million dollars), and decorate them using retired products purchased from the clearance rack plus scraps from my scrap bin.

I purchased this journal from the Dollar store.  Because I like to braid the spine ribbon, I choose journals that have a wire spine.

The front and back cover of the journal were covered with "Carried Away" SAB designer paper, and I used the colours in that paper to decorate the journal. The insides were covered with coordinating Mint Macaron card stock.

Art Piece:
One wonderful thing about this year's Occasion and SAB catalogues is the cooperative interplay between the two.

The DSP from the SAB catalogue features hot air balloons, so naturally the "Lift Me Up" stamp set from the Occasions catalogue, with its coordinating framelits (Up & Away Thinlet dies), was used to create the scene on the front of the journal.

The edges of the Whisper White piece were first distressed with Basic Gray ink using the Timeless Texture stamp set.  Some large and small clouds were stamped randomly on the art piece as well as on separate scrap pieces of Whisper White card stock. The ones on the scrap piece were die cut and placed aside. Once I knew the placement of the hot air balloons, three birds (from "Wherever You Go) were stamped between the clouds.

Three balloons were die cut - the large one with Night of Navy card stock, backed with die cut pieces of various patterns of the SAB Designer paper.  The medium and smaller ones were die cut with the SAB designer paper. Three balloon baskets were die cut with Night of Navy scraps.  One was adhered to the larger balloon; the other two were cut to fit the other balloons.  The edges of the two smaller balloons were sponged with Calypso Coral ink.

After the balloons were adhered to the art piece with dimensionals (except the smallest) the die cut clouds were also adhered with dimensionals among the stamped clouds.

The art piece was matted with Calypso Coral card stock and adhered to the front of the journal.

Decorating the rest of the Journal:
The Tasteful Trim die (retired) was used to cut the Night of Navy trim which was adhered next to the spine, on both the front, back and inside.

The sentiment was punched with the Classic Label punch and matted with a Night of Navy modern word label punchie.

This was adhered to the top of the art piece.

Spine:
Four rows of retired Calypso Coral seam binding was used to braid the spine.  The ends were left a bit longer because I like to attach beads to them.  But because this is a SU only challenge, I used 2 retired Antique brads hot-glued together and to the ribbon end.

Book Mark
As a bonus, I made a book mark using 1/4" strips of the same DSP and the Calypso coral card stock.  These were braided together.  The top was decorated with  2 Calypso Coral and 1 Mint Macaron flowers die cut using the Succulent framelits. The center of the flower was punched in Night of Navy card stock using a 3/4" circle punch.  Before adhering them together with Tombo glue the edges were curled up with a bone folder.
After attaching the flower to the top of the book mark, dazzling details was applied to the edges and center of the flower

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Lift Me Up (Occasions), Timeless Texture (Annual), Wherever You Go (Annual)
Inks: Basic Gray, Calypso,
Papers: Carried Away DSP, Night of Navy, Mint Macaron, Calypso Coral, Basic Gray, Whisper White
Accessories: Up & Away thinlets dies, Succulents framelits dies, Classic Label punch, Modern Word Label punch, 3/4" circle punch, 1/2" Calypso Coral seam binding (R), Antique brads (R), dimensionals, Tasteful Trim die (R), dazzling details.

A Light Up Balloon Birthday

Today, December 21is the first official day of winter.  It is also known as Winter Solstice.
The word solstice comes from the Latin words for “sun” and “to stand still.” In the Northern Hemisphere, as summer advances to winter, the points on the horizon where the Sun rises and sets advance southward each day; the high point in the Sun’s daily path across the sky, which occurs at local noon, also moves southward each day.
At the winter solstice, the Sun’s path has reached its southernmost position. The next day, the path will advance northward. However, a few days before and after the winter solstice, the change is so slight that the Sun’s path seems to stay the same, or stand still. The Sun is directly overhead at “high-noon” on Winter Solstice at the latitude called the Tropic of Capricorn.

I looked up some folklore and sayings related to winter and found the following sayings:

Winter Folklore and Verse

Deep snow in winter; tall grain in summer—Estonian proverb
Visits should be short, like a winter’s day.
A fair day in winter is the mother of a storm—English proverb
Summer comes with a bound; winter comes yawning.
Onion skins very thin, mild winter coming in.

I can't say that I've heard any of these sayings before, have you?

In honour of Winter Solstice I made a card with lights on it.

To make the best use of the Lift Me Up stamp and coordinating framelits I viewed the video made by Stampin' Up which I have imbedded below:

The basic card is Island Indigo, layered with Whisper White and then Scenic Scenes DSP.  The DSP provided the back drop for the scene created.

The large hot air  balloon was die cut using Night of Navy card stock and a balloon shaped layers of colour (Mint Macaron, Watermelon Wonder, Night of Navy, Delightful Dijon)was placed behind it.

On a separate piece of card stock two other balloons were stamped - one with Night of Navy and one with Watermelon Wonder.  After die cutting the edges were sponged with Basic Gray.  Some clouds were also stamped and die cut.

The lights for the card were built on a Whisper White layer below the card front.  The lights are battery  operated with an on/off switch on the left side.

The balloons and clouds were arranged as indicated in the picture above.  Some tiny holes were poked in various places on  the finished scene so that the lights can shine through them.

Here is a picture of the card with the lights dimmed so that the lights can be seen.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Lift me Up
Inks: Night of Navy, Watermelon Wonder, Basic Gray, Basic Black marker
Papers: Whisper White, Island Indigo, Night of Navy, Scenic Scenes DSP, Mint Macaron, Watermelon Wonder, Peach Parfait
Accessories: Up & Away thinlets, paper piercing tool, string of lights & battery unit (non SU)

(You) Lift Me Up - Try Stampin' on Tuesday #299

It's officially winter in Peterborough as well, with 5 cm of snow falling in the last couple of days.  More snow is on the way.  Coming on the heels of a warmer than usual November we really can't complain.  Besides, Christmas is just around the corner - 18 days to be exact.  Tomorrow I am doing my last craft event until the New Year.  I call it a craft event because I am the only  person setting up a craft table at a local hospital.

The card I made today features a new stamp set in the Occasions catalogue coming out next month.     This hot air balloon stamp set also has some thinlet dies that coordinate with it.  It goes perfectly with the sketch challenge with Try Stampin' on Tuesday or Not #299

The card base is Tempting Turqoise card stock layered with Whisper White and then Festive Birthday DSP.
The Art Piece is a Whisper White piece 4 by 2 1/2".  Clouds of 2 sizes were randomly stamped using Bermuda Bay ink.  The smallest balloon of the thinlet dies was used to die cut 3  balloon s using the striped pattern of the same DSP.  The edges were sponged with Rich Razzellbery ink and  two of the three were adhered with dimensionals.   Small bows made with Linen thread were adhered with glue dots to the base of each balloon.

The sentiment, stamped with Black Memento on a separate piece of Whisper White and punched with the  Classic Label punch.

The art piece was matted with Tempting Turquoise and adhered to the card front with dimensionals.

Supplies Used:
Stamps: Lift Me Up
Ink:   Black Memento, Bermuda Bay, Rich Razzelberry
Papers: Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White, Festive Birthday DSP
Accessories:  Up & Away Thinlet Dies, Linen Thread, Dimensionals, Glue Dots
