Atypical Starburst Technique

The June card challenge with the Canadian Die Cut Exchange group was to make a card using the Atypical Starburst technique, following a photo tutorial by Lissa Zwalanek here  

This is a great technique to use up retired Designer Paper!! And, as a bonus, you end up with enough cut pieces to make 4 different cards.


Four  different pieces of DSP  from the Pretty Petals DSP stack were cut to  3 1/2 by 5"

All 4 pieces are placed on top of one another and cut at the same time. Prior to cutting, the center  of the 5" side was located and marked. All cuts radiate from this point. The angles cut are not important.  What is important is that the marked mid point is returned to each time prior to each cutting. Five cuts were made,

The tutorial stresses two things:  press firmly on the trimmer so the papers don't move during cutting,  and ensure all 4 layers are cut all the way through.


Arranged  the cut pieces and attach to a 3 3/4 by 5" piece of  Whisper White cardstock.  Place silver strips of peel off's over the seams between the cut pieces and along the bottom.  Mat the piece with Basic Black card stock and punch the bottom with the scallop border punch.

Adhere to a 4 by 5 1/4" piece of Very Vanilla, and  mount on a Calypso Coral base.

The flower in the center is from the stamp set "Crazy About You"  It was stamped 3 times using Calypso Coral ink.  One was punched using the Medallion Flower punch.  The second flower was cut so as to make a smaller flower; the third was made even smaller - each using the markings on the flower.  The flower layers were built together using dimensionals between the layers.
Gold wink of Stella glimmer was applied to the center.

Two leaves were die cut in Old Olive using the Bouquet die and adhered to the card at the center of the Starburst, and then the flower was attached.

Crazy About You Thank You - a partial catalogue case

This was another card made at last night's team meeting, but I thought I would put it on a separate post.
The card was inspired by the sample on Page 70 of the new catalogue which comes into effect tomorrow!  Can hardly wait!!

The base card is Delightful Dijon, with a card wide strip of Whisper White cardstock on most of the card front.  The image was built on this Whisper White panel.

The leaves were stamped first with Wild Wasabi ink, and the flowers were stamped and punched out on separate pieces of Whisper White cardstock.
The scalloped flowers were stamped using Daffodil Delight ink and punched using the 1 3/4" scallop circle punch; the other flower stamped with Calypso Coral and punched with the Flower Medallion punch.

 The sentiment, from "Cottage Greetings" was stamped on a 1" strip of Whisper White cardstock and adhered to the center of this image panel.

For interest, 2 small butterflies were punched with black polka dot DSP and added above and below this strip.

A Z-fold card -You Make Me Happy - SUO challenge #122 & Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge #251

I've always wanted to make a Z-fold card, and I love my flowers, so combining the two just seemed a natural thing to do.  I also combined 2 challenges - SUO #122 - Fun Flowers and Pals Paper Arts #251 which is a colour challenge.  So I made the fun flowers on my card in the following colours:  Daffodil Delight, Melon mambo, and Tempting Turquoise.
To make the Z-fold card, I used a tutorial found on the Too Cool Stamping blog

 

The base of the card is Daffodil Delight, layered with Whisper White.

Two stamp sets were used to make the flowers in the 3 colours mentioned.

The larger flowers are from"Flower Shop". They were stamped with Versa Mark and embossed with their respective colours. The flowers were punched using the coordinating Pansy Punch.  With the 1/2" circle punch, cardstock colours to match the flowers were punched, embossed with the Decorative dots embossing folder and adhered to the flower centers using a dimensional.

The smaller flowers are from "Petite Petals" and they were stamped using the 3 challenge colours, and punched using the coordinating Petite Petals punch.  Some were used as centers for the larger flowers and all of them had rhinestones in their centers.

The flowers were attached to the Z-fold card as shown in the picture.

Wine Tags for Craft Show

I made 3 extra special wine tags for the Craft Show tomorrow.  Two of them are for Mother's Day and the third is for an Anniversary.  If more are needed I will take orders for them.

This one is for Mother's Day.


Each tag is 2 3/8 wide by 9 1/2" long.  The bottom end is notched.
The top end is scored at 3" and a 1 1/4" circle punch is inserted, centered and punched.  This is for the neck of the wine bottle.
The cardstock I used for this tag is Rose Red and it can be decorated any way you like, but for this one I chose a piece of non SU Vellum.  I also put a piece of vellum on the top of the tag and punched another 1 1/4 cicle hole in it.  I surrounded this by a 1 3/4" scallop circle Rose Red  with a 1 1/4" circle in the middle.
The sentiment is from "Sweet Laughter".  The word was too large for my tag so I cut it into 3 words and mounted it on a piece of Rose Red with the corners rounded.
The Old Olive leaf was die cut using the Flower Frenzy die, and the 3 flowers made using the Spiral Flower die.
A medium sized butterfly was die cut in black, folded in half and adhered beneath the flowers
I added pearls to the top of the tag and at the lower ends of the banner.




Here are 2 others I made:

For this one I used Sahara Sand carstock, Something Borrowed DSP, Memorable Moments stamp set, Sahara Sand Lace Trim, Silver baker's twine, Scoring Tool to make the Rosettes, silver ink, silver embossing powder and silver dazzling details.

The cardstock here is Marina Mist, with specialty silver vellum, silver cardstock,  a rosette flower made using Marina Mist DSP (with a retired Filigree brad in the center), 5/8" satin silver ribbon, dazzling glimmer paper bitty butterflies and labels framelits.

Happy Birthday - a Confetti Card

This week in class the project is to make 2 Confetti cards.

This is one of them.  I use Balloon Base, Crazy About You, and the DSP from the spring catalogue "Birthday Bash"

Today's shaker cards have been modified to place the shaker elements in a pouch that makes the card much more mailable.

The base card is Coastal Cabana layered with DSP "Birthday Bash" DSP.

The pouch was then created using 2 pieces of Window sheet taped on 3 sides using Washi tape.  I used retired tape.  The top is left open to add the shaker elements.

Using the Confetti Hearts Border punch, I punched pieces of Tangello Twist, Coastal Cabana, and Always Artichoke.  I also added some Gold sequins pulled off the thread (I saved 3 of them to put on the outside of the card.  Once I was satified I had enough confetti, the top of the pouch was sealed with another piece of Washi tape.

A piece of  3/8" stitched Tangello Twist satin ribbon was adhered on the left side of the pouch, and a bow placed at the top.

The pouch was now adhered to the DSP using tombo glue.

On a piece of Whisper White paper, the image from ":Balloon Bash" was stamped using Coastal Cabana ink. This was die cut using the Circles Framelits.  Using Coastal Cabana cardstock and the Starburst Framelit, a slightly starburst framelit was die cut to act as the mat.  The two were adhered together.

 

On a scrap piece of paper, the "#happy birthday" was coloured with a Tangello Twist marker, stamped on the Whisper White paper, cut out and placed over the Coastal Cabana one using small dimensionals.  This art piece was then adhered to the see through confetti pouch with dimensionals.

The sentiment, from "Crazy About You" was stamped using Basic Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, and die cut using the Banners framelit. The edges were sponged with Coastal Cabana ink.  It wasthen attached to the top of the pouch at the level of the ribbon, and at an angle.

The remaining 3 sequins were added randomly to the top of the finished card.

Crazy About You - Technostamper #348

I am now officially in Valentine Day card making mode.  Today I have made 3 and for my 4th I decided to use the sketch challenge with TSSC here

 

I guess you could call this a clean and simple card - for me anyway.  It's nice that the card came together so fast.

The card base is Basic Black cut at 4 1/4 by 11 and folded from the top down.  This is layered with Whisper White cardstock.  On this 3/4 by 5"  pieces of DSP from the Stacked with Love DSP stack were attached at the left side. A 1 1/4" piece of Basic Black cardstock was notched at the right end and attached horizontally just below midway.  To this the sentiment was added.  Stamped in Real Red on Whisper White ,the "Crazy About" was from the stamp set "Crazy About You" and the "You" was  die cut in Real Red using the "Hello You" thinlet die.

Three little red hearts (punchies from the Heart border punch) were added as shown in the picture.
