Tulips in a Barrow - Inspiration Challenge Hand Stamped Sentiments #411

 I submitted this card for the Inspiration Challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments #411.  It was the inclusion of the tulip images that inspired me.  Having been born in Holland, tulips are one of my favourite flowers.

For this card, I cut and pasted various images from different retired DSP's, the theme of which was tulips.  I also found an 'old' stamp (non SU) that I used a lot for applying flower soft to images. I cut a bunch of tulips from the DSP and placed them in the barrow.

Windmill and Ocean

 It's been a while since I posted.  No excuse, only that I got really busy.......  To make up for it I am posting a rather large slim line card featuring the Windmill with the Waves of the Ocean DSP.

The Waves of Inspiration Bundle is an early release from the 2022-2023 Annual Catalogue.

As a start I thought I would pair the DSP with the Windmill from Tulip Fields.

You see the ocean in the background.

The completed die cut windmill was placed on an imaginary cliff over looking the ocean with a field of tulips placed in front. Some fences on top of the cliff help to define the area.  The tree is from the "On the Horizon" stamp set.  

This card was really easy and quick to make. The only actual 'work' was die cutting and assembling the windmill - and stamping the sentiment which is from "Flowering Tulips"

Thick Basic white (card base) 9 by 8" scored at 4" 

Waves of the Ocean DSP 3 3/4 by 6 1/2" - add to top of card base

Flowering Fields DSP 3 3/4 by 3" - add to bottom of card overlapping the Waves of the Ocean DSP in the middle.

Soft Suede card stock - to die cut windmill parts and fence

Balmy Blue - to die cut part of windmill - sponge with Soft Suede to give it an "aged" look

Basic white - to stamp and die cut tree and sentiment

Mossy Meadow - layer of sentiment

Dimensionals

Triangle Gatefold Windmill Card - a case

 I cased this card fold from a video made by Stephanie Nash, a Canadian demonstrator. It is a different version of the traditional gatefold card.

1. Score a 5 1/4 by 12" piece of Flowering Fields DSP at 2, 4, 8, and10 on the long side.

2.  Fold inwards at 4 and 8" (mountain fold)  and then outward at 2 and 10 (valley folds)

3.  On both edges of the scored 5 1/4 by 12" DSP piece, measure down 2 1/4" from the top and make a small pencil mark. 

4. With the trimmer, cut from the pencil mark to the top of the 2"and 10" score mark. This cuts out a triangle piece.  Keep this piece.

5.  Adhere the triangle pieces to the bottom of the front panels. 

6. Score a 4 1/4 by 11" piece of Poppy Parade card stock at 5 1/2" to form a top fold card.  Add this to the card front.

7. Cut a piece of Basic White at 2 1/2 by 2 1/2".  The image is designed on this.  Mat with a 2 3/4 by 2 3/4" piece of Poppy Parade card stock and adhere only the right side to the card front at an angle matching the edges of the card.

A Windmill (Molen in Dutch) another catalogue sneak peak

 I was 6 when I emigrated from Holland, leaving everything behind - except what could be packed into a trunk. It must have been a hard decision for my parents not knowing what was ahead of them in Canada.

Windmills remind me of the land of my birth.  I returned to Holland after I graduated from University and was awestruck by the majesty of these structures.

One of the new bundles in the Mini catalogue launching in less than a week is the Tulip Fields and Flowering Tulips, both of which have dies.  The Designer Paper that coordinates with them is gorgeous, as are the metallic butterfly embellishments.

The card I made is larger than I normally make - a 5 by 7- as I did not want to crowd out the windmill.

Stamp:  Tulip Fields

Inks:  Gorgeous Grape

Papers: Thick basic white, Basic White, Soft Suede, Ombre specialty paper, Flowering Fields DSP

Accessories:  Tulip dies, Windmill Field Dies, Small brad, Crystal Effects, Brushed Brass Butterflies

Measurements and putting card together.

• Thick Basic White 10 by 7 scored at 5 to form a 5 by 7 card (card base)
• Flowering Fields DSP 4 3/4 by 6 3/4" - layer on card base
• Soft Suede 4 by 11 to die cut the windmill and turbines. To make the wind wings or turbines sturdier,  I cut 2 of them and adhered them together.  (These are the parts that turn in the wind to make the windmill operational)
• Add the wings to the body of the Windmill using a small brad
• Adhere completed windmill to the card front.
• Using the edge die from the Tulip dies,  cut 3 layers of tulips using the Ombre specialty paper, a different colour for each layer. 

Layer 1:  Gorgeous Grape 2 1/2 by 7" Ombre paper 

Layer 2:  Poppy Parade 2 1/2 by 7" Ombre Paper

Layer 3:  Daffodil Delight 2 1/2 by 7" Ombre Paper

• Adhere the layers together using Tear and stick tape, alternating the flowers and shifting the heights.
• Adhere to the card front below body of Windmill

• Trim off excess at both sides.
• Stamp sentiment using Gorgeous Grape ink on a 5/8 by 2 1/8" piece of Basic White.  Adhere to card front hear the top of the windmill.
• Add 3 metallic butterflies

To finish the card, I did add some Glossy Accents to the wing edges and parts of the body but this is optional.
