Serene Silhouettes - Herringbone Technique

This card I did for a challenge with another group.  The challenge was to make a card using the Herringbone technique.  I used the tutorial at Splitcoaststamper  to help me remember as its been a while since I've done this technique.

I used retired DSP "Back to Black" to make this background.

  • The basic card is Basic Black cardstock, layered with Whisper White.
  • On a smaller piece of Whisper White, I adhered Peel and Stick adhesive paper upon which I adhered the 1/8" pieces of DSP.

  • After the Herringbone design was completed, a piece of white Jute ribbon was adhered across the pattern.  Then it was adhered to the Whisper white mat layer.
  • The image from Serene Silhouettes was embossed with black embossing powder, and die cut with an oval framelit.  It was matted with a Basic Black scalloped oval die cut.  The two were adhered using dimensionals.
  • After the image was attached to the card, a small piece of ribbon was cut, both ends notched, and a small piece of black baker's twine tied around it.  The ends of the Baker's twine were wound through a black button and tied into a bow.

Center Panel Easel Card - Thinking of You

This is the second card I have made with the watercolour paper I colour washed with the acrylic blocks.  I wanted to make a card with a different fold, so I check through my Pinterest board on "Card Folds" and came across a video by Linda Bauwin  where she outlined how to make the center panel easel card.

The fold itself is easy to make.

The stamped image of the Serene Silhouette stamp became the center panel of this easel card.

This image stamped on colour washed waterpaper,  was first was matted with Old Olive, then Marina Mist and finally with Whisper White cardstock before attaching it to the bottom half of the center panel.

A piece of Whisper White was adhered to the center and about 1 1/2" from the front a 1" piece of Old Olive piece of cardstock with a 3/4" piece of Marina Mist cardstock adhered to the top was adhered with dimensionals.  This holds the easel up.

On the side panels, Painted Petals  DSP. matted with Whisper White was adhered.

The sentiment is from "Gifts of Kindness"

Thinking of You - Technostamper Monday Lunch time Challenge # 358

Yesterday I made numerous pieces of watercolour wash backgrounds using different colour combinations.  It was made by applying 3 colours of inks directly onto acrylic blocks, spritzing with water and applying it to watercolour paper.  Coarse sea salt was added, and removed when the paper was dry.
For the piece I used today, the colours I were:  Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, Tangelo Twist.

Using Stazon ink, the image from Serene Silhouettes was stamped on the dried background.  The birds didn't come out as dark as I wanted them to, so using the Versa Mark pen, I applied versamark to the birds only, and applied clear embossing powder.

Using the Project Life corner rounder punch, the bottom corners were rounded, as were the bottom corners or the black cardstock matting.

The basic card is 4 1/4 by 11 folded at 5 1/2".  It is matted with Whisper White cardstock and then Confetti Celebration DSP.

The image panel was adhered to the DSP with the edges abut the top edge of the DSP.  Before adhering it down all the way, the sentiment, stamped in Basic Black on Daffodil Delight cardstock, and punched with the 1 3/8" circle punch and matted with a Basic Black 1 3/4" circle punchee.

Over the top of the card is adhered a piece of Black Cardstock, the edge of which was die cut with the Finishing Touches Edgelit.  A piece of Calypso Coral ribbon I(SAB) is attached to it, as well as a ribbon.

For finishing touches, some In Color sequins were added to the background, and some pearls under the sentiment.

Serene Silhouettes - The Friday Mashup 161

The challenge this week with The Friday Mashup here is to create a project with trees, or create a project with heat or dry embossing, or mash it up and create a project with Embossing and Trees. I decided to make a card that not only had a tree on it, but also had both heat and dry embossing.

The treee was embossed with a mixture of Gold and Wild Wasabi embossing powders.  You can see the sheen of the gold on the image on the bottom.  The Very Vanilla layer is embossed with the Stylish Stripesf embossing folder.

Stamps: Serene Silhouettes, Something to Say
Inks: Versa Mark
Papers: Gumball Green, Very Vanilla, Whisper White, Fresh Prints DS Paper Stack
Accessories: Stylish Stripes folder, 3/8" Summer Starfruit stitched satin ribbon, Deco Labels framelits, 1 3/4 by 7/8" oval punch, Gold embossing powder, Wild Wasabi embossing powder, dimensionals, rhinestones.

I chose to use the Summer Starfruit ribbon, but considered using either the Gumball Green, or Midnight Muse.  The Gumball Green made the card look too "green"; the midnight muse stood out too much, so in the end I used the Summer Starfruit.  What do you think?  Was that the right choice?

Serene Silhouette Happy Anniversary - Unscripted Sketches #194

Today is a snow day.  We got dumped on last night - but now it's starting to rain.  I wish the weather would make up its mind!
Regardless, it's a good day to stay in and make some cards.
This card is for the challenge with Unscripted Sketches here .  It's a piggyback challenge i.e. we're to use stickers with the sketch.  Unfortunately I didn't have any stickers, so I made some using a stamp.
I put the sketch upright to make my card.

SK 163 US 194
Stamps:  Serene silhouettes, Button, button, A Word for You
Inks: Melon mambo, SU markers (Melon Mambo, Old Olive)
Papers: Melon Mambo, Whisper white, Watercolor paper, Old Olive
Accessories: Brocade folder, Pearls, 1/2" circle punch, 1/8" Old Olive taffeta ribbon, dimensionals, Pearlized smooch.

Technique:
Here's how I watercolored the focal image:
1.  Cut a piece of watercolor paper
2.  Color the stamp with SU markers
3.  Lightly spritz the watercolor paper
4.  Huff on the stamp and stamp on the damp watercolor paper.  The image will start to "bleed" and blur
5.  Clean stamp and reink with the markers the same as before
6.  Lightly mist the inked stamp
7.  Stamp over the image on the watercolor paper.  Lightly spritz the image if you want more blurring of the edges.
8.  Allow to dry.

The stickers I made were stamped images from Button, button.  They were punched with the 1/2" circle punch and covered with Pearlized smooch and then run through the xyron.  A pearl was placed in the middle of each button

Serene Silhouettes Birthday - Stamping 411 #266

What a beautiful day in Southern Ontario.  The humidity seems to have broken and it was a perfect day for a long walk in the park.  Thank goodness there have been no more bats to chase and catch!!

This card for Stamping 411 here features the Serene Silhouettes stamp set.  The sketch is a bit of an unusual design, but I enjoyed making the card.

The focal image was stamped with Versa mark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder.  The edges of the square were then pierced with the mat pack and paper piercer.

Stamps:  Serene Silhouettes, Curly Cute
Inks: Versa Mark, Island Indigo
Papers: Island Indigo, Whisper White, Gold card stock, Twitterpated designer series paper
Accessories: Gold embossing powder, mat pack & paper piercer, Butterfly punch, pearls, Lacy Brocade embossing folder, Stampin' dimensionals.
