An Under Sea Birthday - Fab Friday #113

This is my card for the sketch challenge with Fab Friday #113

The topic for this card was made at the request of a client who wishes to make a card of a similar nature for a male friend.

This  masculine birthday card featuring an under sea turtle was made using two stamp sets:  From Land to Sea, and Seaside Shores.  I also used some retired DSP.

For my card I flipped the sketch onto its side.  I did this because the DSP I used (and I had only a small piece left) had the waves going from left to right and would only fit on the card if I flipped the sketch.

The image was stamped onto Whisper White card stock with two other turtles stamped very lightly above and below it.  It was colored with a blender pen and the following colors:  Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake, Old Olive, and Always Artichoke. The background was sponged with Marina Mist and Dapper Denim, and stamped with the Timeless Texture stamp.  Some air bubbles emerging from the turtle were hand drawn using a black marker.

The image was die cut using the layering circle framelit and adhered to the card front using dimensionals.

The basic card is Dapper Denim, layered with Very Vanilla and then Seaside DSP (retired). A 3/4" strip of Dapper Denim notched at both ends was adhered to the middle, and on the top edge of that was attached a 1/4" of DSP.  The art piece was adhered to this.

On the left side of the circle, I adhered some sea grass that was cut out with a fish that I cut out of the Seaside DSP weaving in and out of this.

To finish the card I added some black, white and silver sequins.

High Tide Birthday - a Framed card

My son is always advising me to frame my cards and have a gallery of them on the wall down the stairs to my craft room.
Today I did frame a card, but not because he was urging me to do this.  I did it because the finished card just looked like it needed it.


The Light house was stamped with Smoky Slate and Basic Gray.  A blender pen was used to colour in the red portion and then with Basic Gray ink to touch up the sides and the architecture at the top. The sand around the light house was stamped in Sahara Sand, with Old Olive Sea Grass growing around the base. The beacon lights are Daffodil Delight. After the sea was stamped, the horizon was darkened with a blender pen.

The sky was first washed with an aqua painter finishing up with clouds sponged over a trio of scallop circles.

Basic Gray ink was used to stamp the Sea Gulls.

Next to the Light House on a patch of sand there are two Sand Pipers.

The sentiment is from "Remembering Your Birthday.

This art piece was adhered to some By the Shore DSP and placed in an old off white frame

On a separate piece of Whisper White the wheel and lantern from the set "From Land to Sea" were stamped, coloured and cut out, then mounted on the right lower frame.

The finish, some neutral rope was tied into a sailor's knot and placed on the left side of the frame.

You Light Up My Life - Try Stampin on Tuesday #330

More snow last night, and it's been bitter cold!  The window on the back screen door has been frozen over for the last 2 days.

This card, made with a new Occasions stamp set combined with an Oldie but Goodie.

I made some liberties with the sketch from Try Stampin on Tuesday changing some of the features around.  Hope the design team doesn't mind.

Art Piece:

On a 3 3/4 by 5" piece of Whisper White card stock, the image of the light house was stamped and coloured. Then the area of the light from the light house was masked out and the area in between the 2 masks was sponged with Crushed Curry.  A sentiment from "Pun Intended" was stamped repeated and randomly over this sponged area. The stamp-a-ma-jig was used for more accurate placement.

Stamps from the new Occasions set "High Tide" was used to create the water and the scene around  the lighthouse as well as the sea gulls.

The sentiment was stamped in the lower left corner.

All edges were sponged with Basic Gray ink.

Card:

The art piece was layered with Cherry Cobbler and adhered to a Basic Gray base.

Congrats - From Land to Sea Try Stampin on Tuesday #276

The hot spell has finally broken and it looks like there might be some rain (at last).  But looking forward to the long weekend, the weather is going to be perfect for my craft show at Stoney Lake.

The card for the sketch challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday has a definite nautical feel.  I use the stamp set "From Land to Sea" and I feature the turtle.

 

• The background of the art piece was created by sponging 3 colours on a piece of Whisper White paper. - Night of Navy, Dapper Denim, Marina Mist.  After cutting it to size, the edges were sponged with Night of Navy.
• The image needed some sea grass, so I used the meadow grass from "In the Meadow" and stamped it in the lower left.
• One turtle was coloured, cut out and set aside.  But because I like to use the rule of "3's" I stamped two other turtles in the background.  I wanted to make it look like they were in the distance, so I stamped off twice before stamping on the art piece.  Look carefully and you will see them.  Perhaps in the close up below they can be seen better.

  The single turtle was coloured with a blender pen and ink pads, cut out, the edges sponged, and then adhered to the art piece using tombo glue. 
  
  
  Versa mark was applied to the entire art piece and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
  
  
  It was matted with Old Olive cardstock, and this unit was attached to the card front using dimensionals.
  
  
  The card base is Dapper Denim, layered with Whisper White embossed with perfectly polka dot embossing folder.  On top of that is Marina Mist embossed with Gently Falling embossing folder.
  
  
  The sentiment is from "Happy Happenings".

A Sea Turtle Happy Birthday - Hand Stamped Sentiments #217

It's been a while since I've done some sketch challenges because I've been so busy with craft shows, teaching sessions, etc.
Today I thought I would do the sketch challenge with Hand Stamped Sentiments . 
I had previously coloured the images of the Sea Turtles from the stamp set "From Land to Sea" while I was at a craft show, and they fit perfectly into the image of the sketch.

• The base card is Always Artichoke, layered with Basic black, and then Whisper White.
• Using Marina Mist and the background stamp with "You've Got This" the Whisper White was stamped, and then I took one of the other stamps from the same set and stamped it over the background.  You can see the tail of it under the sentiment.
• The Sea Turtles were cut into 3 pieces, 2 pieces smaller than the 3rd.  The corners were rounded as per the diagram, and the edges were sponged first with Marina Mist and then Pacific Point ink.
• I drew some bubbles over the turtle's head, and motion marks around the feet.

• These image panels were attached to the stamped background using dimensionals.
• The sentiment is from "Bring on the Cake" stamp set, and the edges of this banner was also sponged with Marina Mist and Pacific Point ink.
