Thanks - Stamp, Ink, Paper #206

I made this card for the challenge at Stamp, Ink, and Paper, but missed the Link up.  I decided to post the card regardless.

The colours of the leaves of the tree, from the stamp set "Beauty of Friendship" was inspired by the picture above, as was the colours of card stock for the card base and those used to die cut the sentiment.

The card base is Cajun Craze layered with Basic White embossed with the Bark embossing folder.  The focal image is built on this base.

Tree:  On a separate piece of Basic White, the tree was stamped and then die cut. The tree trunk was stamped with Merry Merlot brushed with Early Espresso.  The canopy was stamped first with Daffodil Delight, then Cajun Craze followed by Merry Merlot (2nd generation)  Both were die cut using the "Beautiful Tree" dies.

Kangaroo: I selected the kangaroo from the collection of animals from the stamp set "Count on Me" because it was holding this beautiful flower that would be coloured to coordinate with the challenge. It was coloured with Stampin' Blends (Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Flirty Flamingo - flower with Daffodil Delight, Cajun Craze and Merry Merlot).  I cut it with my new Scan n Cut machine.

Thanks:  This word was die cut twice - once in Merry Merlot and once in Cajun Craze.  The two were adhered together off set from one another.  The die is a single word die from Sue Wilson.

All the elements were organized and adhered together on a Basic White Hippo and Friends lightly brushed with Bashful blue ink using a blender brush. The tree trunk was adhered first using tombo glue followed by the canopy which was added over the trunk using dimensionals.

The kangaroo was also added with dimensionals to the right of the tree.

The sentiment was added on the tree canopy slightly at an angle - it seemed to look better that way. To finish the card, a bow made with linen thread was added at the bottom of the canopy and three butterfly embellishments were randomly  to the front.

The completed Hippo & Friends die cut was now added to the embossed card front using dimensionals.

Thinking of You Note Card- CASeology #396

 Clean and Simple stamping has always been hard for me, preferring to create elaborate cards with many layers and embellishments. So whenever I can I take the opportunity to try this technique and taking part in the CASology challenge was a great time to do so.

The CAS guidelines are as follows:

1. One main image
2. Lots of open space, uncluttered
3. Limited layers & embellishments
4. Quick & easy to recreate 

My decision was to make a note card that could be sent with a plate of cookies, or a cake, etc whenever the occasion calls for "Thinking of You"

The Inspiration for this week's card is "View"

In this one layer note card, the focal image is stamped on a piece of Basic White card stock die cut with the Stitched Rectangle Die.

A 1 1/4" circle was punched in a scrap piece of card stock.  This was used  as my reverse mask to colour the moon.  After determining the moon location, the mask was adhered and a blending  brush was used to add Daffodil Delight with a touch of Calypso Coral in the punched circle

The tree from "Beauty of Friendship" was stamped using Early Espresso ink, with some of the branches extending into the moon.  Grounding was added below the tree. Around the top of the tree some 'blotches were added creating a bit of texture.

The sentiment was stamped with Early Espresso ink on a strip of Basic White card stock punched at both ends with the Banners Pick a Punch. It was added across the tree trunk,

The completed art piece was then adhered to the front of a note card.

Calendar Card Tutorial and a Video

 I realize it is early to think of Christmas presents although I have already started my Christmas cards.  However I wanted to share the idea of the Calendar card and make a video tutorial showing you how I made it.

The Mossy Meadow card base is 4 1/4 by 11" scored at 5 1/2" to form a top folding card. A 4 by 5 1/4" piece of Beauty of the Earth DSP was add to the card front.

At the bottom of the card, I insert an ease -like reinforcement so the card could stand up independently. The insert is made by scoring a 4 1/4 by 3" piece of the same colour of cardstock at 1/2, 1 1/2. and 2 1/2" on the 3" side. Burnish the folds well by first folding it in the middle, and folding the outer 1/2'" Tabs in the opposite direction.  I used tear and tape adhesive to adhere it to the bottom of the card.

Tip:  Remove cover of tape on one side only and add this to the back of the card and then remove the cover of the other tab and adhere

I purchased the small calendars from Frog's Whiskers Ink in Campbellford, Ont. This was matted with a 2 1/8 by 3 1/8" piece of Mossy Meadow card stock. 

                                                                                                                                    

To decorate the calendar card, I first die cut a piece of Basic White card stock using the Scallop contour die.   I laid the calendar at the bottom to determine where to stamp my images.

I used the tree tops from he Beauty of Friendship stamp set to stamp small trees.  The two trees were stamped first in Old Olive ink, and then with Mossy Meadow.  Because the trees did not have trunks, I used an Early Espresso marker to draw some trunks. And underneath the trees I stamped some grounding using Smokey Slate ink.   The sentiment was stamped above the trees and the calendar was added below the trees.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

                                                                                                                

                              The two Real Red die cut  birds were made to look like cardinals by using a Basic Black marker and adding black markings around the neck and head.

Beauty of Friendship Shaker - The Paper Players Tic -Tac -Toe Challenge #556

 For the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge at The Paper Players I chose to go straight down the middle - friend, die cut/punch, shaker.

Here is my card

I used the Beauty of Friendship stamp set for the friend sentiment, and die cut the tree using the coordinating "Beautiful Tree" dies. Also coordinating with the stamp and die is the Beauty of the Earth DSP.  So the three elements together were perfect for the challenge.

I don't know why, but my vision for this card was blue and white.

I've been making shaker cards using tulle rather than window sheets so that's how I made this shaker. I used the Subtle shimmer sequins as shaker elements

I added the die cut tree to the left of the shaker, with some of the branches extending over the tulle

The word "friendship" is part of a larger sentiment that I hand cut , added to some Misty Moonlight card stock and added to the card front below the tree using dimensionals.

A rabbit, from the stamp set "Peaceful Deer" was hand cut and added beside the sentiment

On the inside, I added the Misty Moonlight circle that was die cut making the shaker.  The full sentiment was white embossed onto this circle.  If you look carefully you can see the sentiment through the tulle shaker.

Beauty of Friendship Tunnel card

 Some days I feel in the mood to create something different -  a different  fun fold, or a really elegant card, or a 3D card. When this happens I start scanning Pinterest, review You Tube listings, as well as other demo's blogs. 

Finally I found it!  A tunnel card! And ironically I did not find this tutorial on any of my usual search areas......

This card is 5 1/2 by 5 1/2" and consists of  2 layers - a front and a back piece separated on the outer ends by  scored and accordion like folds.  The folds allow for adding elements in 3D as well as allowing the card to fold flat for mailing.

After adhering the same size DSP (the woodgrain pattern from the Beauty of Friendship DSP), a circle was die cut in he center.  A 5 1/2 by 5 1/2" piece of the sky pattern from the same DSP pack was adhere to the other piece - the card base.

To create the accordion-like folds, a 5 by 2 1/2" piece of Basic White cardstock was scored at 1/2, 1, and 1 1/2" . This was adhered to the opposite side of the outer edges of the base with the first fold adjacent to the edge. I used Tombo glue for this to allow for a bit of give and take.

Once the tunnel card base was completed, various die cuts created using the Beauty of Friendship stamp set, were added at various levels to create the 3D look.  I also die cut a Raccoon and a Squirrel to add to the scenery.

The star of the show was a large die cut tree placed on the left front. The tree was die cut in Early Espresso; the canopy die cut from another one of the DSP patterns.

The sentiment was added to the circle with a bird perched on either side of it.

What??? Colour DSP??? A Case plus a tutorial

 What do you get when you add colour to some already spectacular DSP?  Even more spectacular paper.

When I saw cards made with this altered DSP on Pinterest I tracked down Tina Wardell,  the demonstrator who made them. I will provide a link to her video tutorial at the bottom of this post.                                                                

So Tina thank you!  I love your cards so much I cased them exactly as you made them.

I provide a brief pictoral tutorial below the pictures.  

A tree die cut in Early Espresso card stock was added to the card front along the edge of the altered DSP.  The canopy was die cut from another pattern of this DSP and added to the tree top using dimensionals. Two birds die cut from some Basic White which had some Pacific Point and Cajun Craze added were added to the tree top. 

The second card depicts more of a fall scene:

The only difference between the two cards is the colour of the canopy and the colour of the birds.  I also changed the sentiment.

Below is a pictoral tutorial showing the process of colouring the DSP:

Supplies Needed:  

• Pacific Point, Mango Melody, Cajun Craze inks
• 3 blender brushes
• Piece of DSP 4 by 5 1/4"

 

Start by adding Pacific Point ink to the top of the DSP.  Add darker at top edges and lighter towards center of DSP

Add Mando Melody ink below the Pacific Point colour, blending with Pacific Point ink above it.

Finally, add Cajun Craze ink at the bottom 1/3.

Cut the 4 by 5 1/4" into two equal pieces and make into cards.

Beauty of Friendship - You Inspire Me

 Trees can be inspirational.  As a kid, my sister and I would spend hours lying under our favourite tree to discuss our concerns, plan our career goals, or just examine the structure of the tree and its leaves.

The Beauty of Friendship has stamps featuring two distinct trees.  See my previous post for the smaller of the two trees.

This card has a similar layout to the previous card, but I use different materials to make this card.

The  paper in the background that resembles woo grain is unfortunately retired, but I couldn't resist using it as it is perfect for my card.

The strip of DSP across the bottom is from the Hydrangea Hill DSP pack

The Art Piece:

The structure of the tree is stamped with Early Espresso ink on Basic White card stock.  The canopy of the tree is stamped firsts with Old Olive and then Mossy Meadow.  Again, I used the splotch stamp to provide interest around the tree.  The art piece is matted with Mossy Meadow card stock, and added to the card front using dimensionals.

Sentiment:

The sentiment is punched with the Oval of the Dual Oval punch and added to the lower right corner of the art piece.  A bow made using the braided Mossy Meadow trim.

Beauty of Friendship Thank You

 I have a large tree in my back yard which provides shade for my garden, houses squirrels and birds.  In some ways it is my friend.  So, when I saw the "Beauty of Friendship" bundle with its lovely DSP I was excited. I couldn't wait to make some cards!

Here is one of them:

Mossy Meadow goes wonderfully with the Beauty of the Earth DSP  so I selected this as the base colour.  Layered on this is a Basic White layer followed by that lovely DSP from which I selected the base colour.

I decided to use the Bark Embossing folder on a Basic White piece I used to offset the Art Piece. I love the texture created by this folder and is perfect for this card.

The Art Piece is the heart of the card.  On the  Basic White piece, I first stamped the tree structure using Early Espresso ink.  The canopy was stamped one on trop of the other, with two shades of green using 2 different canopy stamps.  The base (less detailed stamp) was stamped with Pear Pizzazz ink; the top stamp (detailed) was stamped in Old Olive ink. To ground the tree, the base was also stamped with Early Espresso.  I used the "splotch" stamp to randomly stamp Crumb Cake ink around the tree and then used the Crumb Cake ink to sponge the edges. 

Before adding the art piece to the card front, it was matted with Early Espresso Card stock, and some braided Mossy Meadow trim, tied into a bow, was added below the canopy.

On a separate piece of Basic White I sponged some Pacific Point and Crumb Cake in a small area and die cut the birds. A fine tipped black pen added some tiny eyes on each bird.

One bird was added at the base of the tree using a small dimensional.  The other was perched on the sentiment which I placed side ways along the art piece.
