True Gentleman Box on top of a Card

This has been a great week for making a variety of Masculine cards.

So far I have made two cards featuring the True Gentleman  DSP; 2 cards made using shirts designed with the same  DSP, and a Double Z fold card.

I am no stranger to this unique card featuring a box on top of a card, as I have made several of these at Christmas time.  The Box on top of a Card  has that wow factor and can be a gift by itself for a very special person. These little boxes are perfect to "hide" little mementos in.

I used the video tutorial by Frenchie help me with the dimensions to create this card.

The card base is comprised of Tranquil Tide card stock folded to form a top fold card.  At the right end, an aperture is cut out to allow for the insertion of a 2 by 2" box.

This is done using the Stampin' Up trimmer.

Cutting the Aperture for the Box

With the folded part of the card at the top of the trimmer, place the left edge of the card at the 1" mark and cut down to 2".  Move the card so that that same edge is now at the 3" mark, and again cut down to the 2" mark. Now turn the card 90 degrees, and matching up the cut marks at the 2" mark, cut across the bottom of aperture  from the 1" to the 3" mark. Remove the card stock (I like to make this into a tag)  You now have a place to insert a box.

Decorating the card:

A strip of DSP layered with Very Vanilla card stock is placed on the lower front, A sentiment  stamped, and punched with the 'tag punch was added to the upper left and a "arrow-like" image stamped on Very Vanilla on the right side. Three buttons already threaded with Linen Thread, were added to the left using glue dots.

Making the Box:

Box: Score a 6 by 6" piece of DSP 2" on all 4 sides. Make into a box
Lid: 1 1/16 by 1 1/16 piece of coordinating card stock scored 1/2" on all four sides. Make lid.

The lid of the box is decorated with a piece of DSP matted with Tranquil Tide card stock.  I used the bow builder punch to create a bow which was adhered to the top using glue dots.

On the inside  I added some Very Vanilla card stock stamped with a sentiment towards the left side.

The box fits very nicely into the cut out aperture.

Supplies
Stamp: Truly Tailored
Inks:  Tranquil Tide
Papers;  Very Vanilla, Tranquil Tide, True Gentleman DSP
Accessories:  True Gentleman buttons, Linen Thread, Stampin' Trimmer, Tailored Tag Punch, Bow Builder Punch

Masculine Pop Out Explosion Card

This is my final card using the True Gentleman suite because - I've run out of DSP - so I thought I would finish with a Pop Out Explosion card.

I used the tutorial with Splitcoaststampers here

This card has a Very Vanilla base of 4 1/4 by 9 " folded in half to form a 4 1/4 by 4 1/2" card.  The front is layered with a 4 1/4 by 4 1/4" piece of True Gentleman DSP.  A different pattern but same size of DSP covers both of the inside panels as well.

It is held closed with a removable 1 by 9 1/2" belly band.

The pop out explosion mechanism starts with a 6 by 6"  piece of Very Vanilla card stock that is first folded in half, opened, folded in half again, opened and than folded tip to tip at an angle.

I cut two other 2 3/4" squares of a different pattern  of the DSP and placed each half on the triangular pieces of the pop out.  The unscored area was left for stamping a sentiment and/or writing a note.

To ensure this pop out fits properly inside the card, the envelope punch board was used to punch out the middle scored area .

A 1 by 9 1/2" Tranquil Tide belly band with some 3/8" Night of Navy corduroy ribbon adhered to the middle of it was wrapped around the card to keep it closed. It can be slipped off to open the card.

To this band I added an embellishment made using  a Crumb Cake Starburst crimped circle with a Tranquil Tide Tag punchie adhered to it.  A banded sentiment was added to the top of that with dimensionals.

Finally two small buttons threaded with linen thread were added above and below the sentiment.

The entire embellishment was added to the band using dimensionals.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Truly Tailored
Ink:  Tranquil Tide
Papers:  Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Tranquil Tide, True Gentleman DSP
Accessories:  Starburst Circle punch, Tailored Tag Punch, True Gentleman Buttons, Linen Thread, Glue Dots, Crimper, 3/8" Night of Navy corduroy ribbon, Dimensionals ,Envelope punch board

Double Z Fold Masculine Birthday Card

This fun fold is a different take on Z fold cards I have made in the past.  Instead of a 1" strip along the top or bottom of the card, there is an extra Z fold panel attached to the middle of the card - thus the term "double Z fold"

Below is a picture of the card in the closed position and a view from the top down to reveal the double Z.

When open it looks like this.

The card base is a 4 1/4 by 11" piece of Chocolate Chip card stock scored at  5 1/2 and the front half again at 2 3/4".  The card is folded in half and then the second scored section is folded back on itself to form the Z.

On the back section I added a 5 1/4 by 4" layer of Very Vanilla, with a 5 by 3 3/4" piece of DSP  (pipe pattern) adhered on top of that.

On the front piece was added a 4 by 2 1/2" layer of Very Vanilla card stock layered with some 3 3/4 by 2 1/4" of DSP (herringbone pattern.

The middle section was left blank and a sentiment was stamped on the back piece.

In the center is the "double Z" piece, which is comprised of an 8 by 3" panel of Very Vanilla card stock scored at 2 3/4" and 5" and then accordion folded.  On the front part of this panel I added a 2 1/2 by 2 3/4" piece of Chocolate Chip card stock and along the outside edges of this I adhered  halves of a Tag punchies (again in the Herringbone pattern).  I don't know if you can see it on the close up below.

Using the Stamparatus I stamped one of the sentiments from the Truly Tailored stamp set and punched it out.  It was added to the center of the front piece using dimensionals.

Two buttons were  threaded with Linen thread and adhered with glue dots.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Truly Tailored
Ink:  Chocolate Chip
Papers:  Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, True Gentleman DSP
Accessories:  Stamparatus, Tailored Tag Punch, True Gentleman Buttons, Linen Thread, Dimensionals, Glue Dots

Masculine Shirt Cards

It's been a while since I've made a shirt card, but this is another great way to use the True Gentleman DSP.

Again, I made 2 cards (when you're on a roll, you're on a roll) There are many videos on how to make these shirt cards, but I used the one made by Barb here as her instructions are clear and precise.  Thanks Barb.

To make the shirt, start with a 4 by 5 7/8" piece of DSP, scored along the long end at  5/8".  After folding on the score line, make 2 (one inch) cuts (with a trimmer) from 1-2" and from 4 to 3".  These are folded to the front to form the collar.

For the tie, start with a 4 by 4" piece of desired DSP.  After making  a pencil mark on the wrong side from tip to tip (paper is at an angle), fold both ends in towards the middle. Then turn over and at the top, fold the tip over 1 1/2", fold back up again to the top (it's easier if you see Barb's video)
Turn over and fold the sides into the middle line again.  Tie is done.

Adhere the tie to the shirt. Place a small dimensional inside the collar to keep the collar down.  A glue dot at the tips also help to keep the collar in place.

The Stamparatus was used to stamp the sentiment using Night of Navy/Tranquil Tide ink.  I matted this with the coordinating card stock, made a banner at each end and added it across the tie using dimensionals.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Truly Tailored
Inks:  Tranquil Tide/Night of Navy
Papers:  Tranquil Tide/Night of Navy, Very Vanilla, True Gentleman DSP
Accessories:  Paper Trimmer,  Bone Folder, Dimensionals, Glue Dots, Stamparatus

True Gentleman Suite Birthday Cards

I'm doing a class on Masculine cards in two weeks time, and I'm getting samples of various male cards together.

Today my focus is on the True Gentleman Suite (Pg. 44-45 of the Occasions Catalogue) which includes the Truly Tailored Stamp set, True Gentleman DSP, True Gentleman buttons, and the Tailored Tag punch.

The first two cards are below.

Because these two cards use mainly DSP, they are a great way to use the paper up.  Both cards have the same format, but the DSP used is different in each car. The measurements for each layer are below the picture.

The base card is Chocolate Chip card stock, and the rest of the card is made using 3 different patterns of the True Gentleman DSP

Here are the measurements:
  • Chocolate Chip card stock  4 1/4 by 5 1/2 card base
  • True Gentlemen DSP (tie pattern) 4 by 5 1/4" - layer for card base
  • 2 pieces of Chocolate Chip card stock 2 1/4 by 2 5/8" - mat for center pieces of DSP
  • DSP 2 1/8 by 2 3/4" - center pieces
  • DSP (blue striped) 1 by 4 7/8 " - center strip
  • Chocolate chip card stock 11 4 by 5" - mat for center strip
  • Chocolate chip starburst punch
  • Sentiment stamped with Chocolate Chip ink on a scrap piece of Very Vanilla card stock and punched with Tailored Tag punch
  • Two buttons threaded with Linen thread and added to card front with glue dots.
Putting card together:
  1. Adhere DSP to card base
  2. Adhere center pieces of DSP to Chocolate Chip card stock and adhere to card base with dimensionals
  3. Adhere Starburst punched circle
  4. Adhere punched sentiment to circle using dimensionals.
  5. Add buttons.
This is what the inside of the card looks like:

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Truly Tailored
Inks:  Chocolate Chip
Papers:  Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, True Gentleman DSP
Accessories:  Starburst Punch, Tailored Tag punch, True Gentleman Buttons, Linen Thread, Dimensionals, Glue Dots, Stamparatus.

Here's a second card:

Papers:  Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight, True Gentleman DSP (measurements the same as above), Very Vanilla

Pyramid Album Card

For over 5 days, a historic ice storm battered  Southern Ontario.  It started on a Friday with heavy rain followed by freezing rain, ice pellets and snow. Each day was worse than the last. Traveling in this weather was out of the question, so it became a perfect time to do some crafting.

Yesterday I spent some time learning how to make a pyramid/album card that  I saw demonstrated at On Stage, London. .  Internet searches showed a paucity of information about this special card fold, although I did find 2 sources that were helpful a video tutorial made by Cayleigh here and another made by Antina Yadav here

I have put together a pictoral tutorial which I will place on my Tutorial Blog in the next couple of days.  In the meantime, here are some pictures of what I came up with.

For the entire album/card I used the following:  Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla and Tranquil Tide Card Stock and the True Gentlemen DSP. I thought this might be a wonderful way to display Masculine Cards, and in some of the pictures I have taken you will see my efforts going in that direction

The Pyramid album card is a layer of progressively smaller square cards in such a way as to resemble an Egyptian pyramid.

The bottom layer is a  6 by 12 piece of card stock  scored at 6"  to form a 6 by 6 square card.  Each layer becomes progressively smaller by  1/4"

Dimensions of all the layers are as follows:

Layer 1 (base)       6 by 12                  Scored at 6
Layer 2                  5 1/2 by 11 3/4"    Scored at 5 1/2
Layer 3                  5 by  10                 Scored  at 5"
Layer 4                  4 1/2 by 9              Scored at 4 1/2
Layer 5                  4 by 8                    Scored at 4
Layer 6                  3 1/2 by 7              Scored at 3 1/2
Layer 7 (top)         3 by 8                    Scored at 3

Each of these layers is matted with a coordinating card stock - Crumb Cake.  As before, the dimensions of each layer decrease in size by 1/4" per layer.

Dimensions for the mat layers are as follows:

Layer 1 (base)      5 3/4 by 5 3/4"
Layer 2                 5 1/4 by 5 1/4
Layer 3                 4 3/4 by 4 3/4
Layer 4                 4 1/4 by 4 1/4"
Layer 5                 3 3/4 by 3 3/4
Layer 6                 3 1/4 by 3 1/4
Layer 7 (top)        2 3/4 by 2 3/4

Each level can be decorated as is, or various fold outs, tags, cards, envelopes, can be added as well as various embellishments and pictures.

Here are some pictures of the various levels starting from the top.  I have added some fold outs to some of the levels.

Level 1:  I added a piece of 2 3/4 by 5 1/2" piece of card stock , scored it in half and added it to the top. DSP was added to each side.

Level 2:  I added an insert, added some DSP was added to the left side.  On the right, I die cut some circles adhered them to the base and tied them close with some ribbon

Undo the ribbon and there is room to add a picture or journaling on the Very Vanilla insert.

Level 3:  Another insert was added.  On the left side of this insert, I added a Very Vanilla pocket with a scallop top tag inserted in it.

Some DSP was adhered to the right side.

Layer 4:  The left side was decorated with stamps and punches.  On the right side I adhered 2 exploding albums one on top of each other .  Here you see the top of the still concealed albums.

Opening up the album reveals a double sided exploding origami folded surface.  This is one side.
Flip it over and you see the next surface.....

..the other side of the exploding album.  These fold back up until they resemble what is seen in the picture of  Level 4.

Level 5:  Another insert.  On the left I cut a card I had made down to size and adhered it there.
On the right I used the envelope punch board to custom make an envelope which is tied together using brads and twine from March's Paper Pumpkin kit.  Mementos can be stored in this envelope.

Level 6:  A waterfall card insert ready for stamping.

On the bottom level I added a Z fold card I had made using Country Living stamp set..
