My 'feisty' neighbour proudly announced last night that she turned 89 on Sept. 11. "What an awful day to have a birthday" she stated as she handed me some green beans she had picked herself from her son's garden. She was making reference to the horrible event that occurred on Sept. 11 seventeen years ago.
The circumstances of her birth were somewhat unusual and she was literally declared dead by the doctor who delivered her. She was born at home as were most births back then, and the delivery was difficult. After she was born, the doctor stated: "What a beautiful baby. Too bad she's dead" Everyone was really upset about that announcement, but her Aunt noticed something. Mary moved her shoulder ever so slightly. "She's not dead! She's not dead!"
The doctor quickly ordered the Aunt to put Mary (my now neighbour) in alternating hot and cold water and before long the wail of a healthy baby pierced the birthing room.
After that auspicious start, Mary is now celebrating her 89th birthday. What a celebration!!!
Since "celebration" is the theme for the SUO challenge this week here I am submitting the card I made to this challenge.
The floral image from "Blended Seasons" was colored with Blends. after which I used the Light Petal Pink blend to color lightly all the way around the image. Since her eye sight isn't the greatest, I used the larger "Stylized Birthday" stamp and gold embossed it. I also gold embossed her age, the numbers of which are from the retired "Metro Type Alphabet" set.
I colored some rhinestones with Bermuda Bay blends and added them to the lower right of the card front. And of course, no card is complete without bling, so I added Clear Wink of Stella to the flowers.
Both top corners were punched using the Detailed Trio Punch, first with the floral image followed by the corner rounded.
The Whisper White art piece layer was adhered to a gold foil layer, which was adhered to a thick Whisper White card base.

Happy 45th Anniversary
At the end of this month I have been invited to help celebrate the 45th wedding anniversary of a close cousin of a friend of mine.
I felt she and her husband deserved a very special card, so I pulled out my embossing folders, embossing powder, ribbon, stamps, and I made some very special flowers for this card.
To take this picture I placed the card and matching envelope in a clump of white geraniums. I had difficulty getting the right lighting conditions inside.
The card base is Powder Pink embossed with the Spark embossing folder. This folder was inked with Powder Pink ink prior to putting it through the Big Shor resulting in a pink background with white raised areas. A swipe with the ink pad across this embossed piece and the white raised areas were now pink.
The center of the card is comprised of two matted panels overlapping each other. The panel at the back is Whisper White embossed with the new Striped Scallop Texture Embossing folder; the front panel is the lovely Petal Promenade DSP Bothe are matted with Powder Pink card stock
Both panels are adhered to the card front, overlapping each other and slightly off setting them.
Near the bottom I added a strip of Powder Pink which has a strip of card stock punched with the Decorative Ribbon punch. I then added some Whisper White polka dot Organza ribbon and tied it in a bow on the right side.
The sentiment, from Better Together, was embossed in Silver and punched with the 2 1/2" circle punch. The numbers "45" were stamped from the retired "Metro Type Alphabet" set, embossed in Silver and fussy cut. The circle was adhered to the card front using dimensionals.
The flowers were stamped, colored with blendabilites, die cut using Beautiful Layers thinlets, shaped and then had Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds added to each. Three leaves were also stamped, colored and due cut.
Once dry the flowers were added to the upper right sentiment circle with the leaves added as shown on the card.
Oh, I also embossed the flap of the envelope.
