The class this week focused on fall leaves. The leaves on the trees have not fully changed colour, but the process is beginning. I drove to my home town yesterday using the back roads and thoroughly enjoyed the country side and the changing colours of the foliage.
The class of course involved making a card, but I decided to do something a little different - making a coaster using leaves die cut using the Vintage leaves and coordinating die set.
On a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, 5 different leaves from the Vintage Leaves stamp set were embossed with gold embossing powder. Before die cutting, each leaf was sponged with Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Old Olive, And Crushed Curry. After they were die cut, each leaf was lightly sponged with Soft Suede, and then the edges were embossed with gold embossing powder. How was that done? The edge of each leaf was applied directly to the Versa Mark ink pad, then added to some gold embossing powder and heat set.
A clay tile (4 1/8 by 4 1/8" ) was painted with white acrylic paint and given to each student, as well as a 4 by 4 piece of Very Vanilla card stock. After rounding the corners of this piece, the leaves were laid out, after which they were Mod Podged in place. When dry, felt feet were added and the coaster was complete.
