I had to cancel tonight's card making class due to inclement weather. We're really getting dumped on with wet snow - which will probably freeze to a dangerous mess come nightfall. Thus I made the decision to cancel class rather than someone get in an accident. Perhaps everyone will be available tomorrow night.
This is the one of the cards we were going to make tonight. It's a St. Patrick's Day birthday pop up card using the Owl builder punch
Before starting the card, put together 4 Owls using the owl builder punch and the "Party Hearty" stamp set (for the birthday hats). Directions below.
Outside:
The front of the card is Gumball Green.
Start by cutting a piece of Early Espresso coordination card stock and emboss it with the Woodgrain embossing folder and sand it. Cut one side in an irregular manner simulating a tree trunk. Punch out the peek hole using the Oval punch.
Take one of the birthday owls and insert it half way through the opening and adhere the lower part of the owl to the back of the tree trunk. Then place a piece of Early Espresso card stock big enough to cover the hole and attach it behind the owl and the oval hole. Attach this unit to the right side of the front of the card.
Stamp with sentiment from "Feeling Sentimental" using Early Espresso ink ont Whisper White card stock. Punch it out using the Oval punch and sponge the edges with Gumball Green ink.
I never like to waste anything, so I placed the oval that was punched out of the tree trunk behind and at right angles to the sentiment. Attach both to the left hand side of the card. The front of the card is now finished.
Inside:
Fold the Crumb Cake cardstock in half and on the folded edge make pencil marks at 1, 1 1/2, 2 1/2, 3, 4, and 4 1/2"
Measure 1" up from the folded line and draw a line across the card.
Draw lines from your marks on the folded line to the 1" line.
Cut on the pencil lines from the fold to the 1" line. You will end up with 3 pop ups.
Top half:
Using the shamrock stamp from "Every Little Bit" and Gumball Green ink, stamp the image randoming on the top half of the Crumb Cake card stock.
Take a piece of Gumball Green card stock, scallop one of the long edges with the scallop border punch, and then emboss with the Square lattice embossing folder.
Attach a piece of 7/16" Natural trim ribbon and a bow top the bottom of this Gumball Green strip
Now attach it to the top of the Crumb Cake cardstock about half way between the top and the top of the pop ups.
Bottom half:
Attach a strip of scalloped Gumball Green cardstock to a piece of Tea for Two DSP and attach to the bottom edge.
To make the shamrock, arrange 3 small heart punches together at their tips. Cut a tiny strip of cardstock for the stem. Attach just above DSP
The sentiment is from the "Occasional Alphabet" stamp set. It is stamped with Black Stazon on Whisper White and punched out with the Decorative Label punch. The edges are inked with Gumball Green ink. I punched a second Decorative Label in Gumball Green card stock as a mat for the sentiment. Attach to the lower right side using dimensionals.
Now attach the front half of the card to the inside being careful to keep the pop ups free of adhesive .
Lastly attach the owls to the pop ups.
And your card is done.
Here's a list of the materials:
