Christmas Ballerina in Gold - SUO Challenges #137

The challenge this time with the SUO Challenges was to make a card/project for a young child.
My grand daughter is 6 years old, and loves ballet, so immediately thought of a punch art ballerina, a ballerina dressed in gold for her performance.
I made the ballerina using different punches.  I have seen a ballerina made with punches before, but the bodice was made with the tab punch, which I no longer have, so it took a little experimenting to make a credible bodice.

It was extremely difficult to take a picture of this card because the gold was so shiny.

Here are the punches I used:
  • 2 3/4" scallop circle punch for sides of bodice)
  • Word Window punch (for neck)
  • Flower Builder punch (retired) - 5 large flower petals; 5 small petals
How I used the punches to make the bodice is depicted below:

The bodice was made using gold foil paper which was embossed with a retired embossing folder which reminds me of snowflakes; the skirt with Winter Winderland Vellum and the retired Flower Builder punch.  The smaller petals were painted on the reverse side with a  gold glimmer brush (in the new catalogue coming Jan. 2016)

This is a close up of one of the large foral punches.  Gold sequins were adhered on the bottom of each large punchie.

Some 1/8" gold taffeta ribbon was tied around the waist.  You'll have to excuse the knot of the ribbon.  I just has surgery on my right hand and just couldln't hold onto the ribbon to tie it.  Most frustrating!

The basic card is Whisper White, layered with gold foil and then Whisper White embossed with Gently Falling embossing folder.
The ballerina is adhered to the card front using dimensionals.

Supplies Used:
Stamp: Good Greetings (retired)
Inks: Versa Mark
Papers: Whisper White, Gold Foil, Winter Winderland Vellum
Accessories: 1/8" gold taffeta ribbon, punches listed above, gold sequins, glue dots, dimensionals, gold embossing powder. Gently falling embossing folder.

These are the punches for Santa:  Large oval, small oval, Owl builder, Ornament

The snowman is made using the Curly Label and Word Window punch.

A number of these punches are retired, but I still like to use them.

Santa Tags

These are the neatest little tags I found I Pinterest, so I CASed them with a few modifications.  They are Santa Tags, with the beard opening up to write messages in.
They are made using a variety of punches.

Supplies Used

Stamp:

  • Lots of Joy

Paper:

  • Real Red
  • Whisper White
  • Pink Pirouette
Ink:
  • Black stampin' write marker
Punches:
  • Scallop border punch (retired)
  • 2" scallop circle punch (non SU)
  • 1 3/4" circle punch
  • 3/4" circle punch
  • 1/8" hand held punch
Accessories:
  • Dazzling details
  • Gold stretch cord (non SU)
Making the tag:

Punch the following:
  • One (1) 2" scallop circle in Whisper White
  • One(1) 1 3/4" circle in Pink Pirouette
  • One (1) 3/4" circle in whisper White
  • A long strip of Whisper white punched with the Scallop border punch - to be cut as needed
  • A Real Red rectangle of 1 3/4 by 3" cut into 2 pieces on the diagonal
Assemble the pieces:
  • Fold scallop circle in half (this is the beard).  Trim the edges around the face.  Adhere the folded end to lower part of Pink Pirouette circle (the face)
  • Assemble the hat.  First fold the tip down so that it lies over the face.  Attach a 3/4" circle to the tip of the hat (the pom pom).  Measure a strip of  the scalloped strip of Whisper White and adhere to the front bottom of the hat.  Trim as needed.
  • Adhere the hat to the top part of the face, leaving a space for the eyes.
  • Using the black marker, draw 2 eyes in the center.
  • Apply dazzling detail to the pom pom, the scalloped trim.  Use a blender pen to move the dazzling details to the areas you want.
  • Punch a 1/8" hole in the left tip of the hat and insert cord or Baker's twine.
Stamp:
  • Use the "To" and "From" stamps from Lots of Joy stamp set and stamp on the back of each Santa.
These are for my craft shows coming up and they are packaged in sets of 4.

The 4 tags were placed in a 4 by 6" cello bag.  The topper was made using the Lots of Labels framelits in Real Red, and Home for the Holidays DSP.  The ribbon is 3/8" Real Red woven satin ribbon (retired).  The little tag is from the Curvy Box framelits set.

Sesame Street Punch Art - The Friday Mashup #54

This week with the Friday Mashup it's Sesame Street time i.e. make a project (for a kid) using the colors using the Sesame Street characters.

  1. Make a project using "Your Favorite Muppet Color Combo".
  2. Or Make a project " for kids".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a " Project for a Kid using your Favorite Muppet Colors".

My children grew up watching Sesame Street.  I can still see my daughter dancing to the opening tune with utter delightful childlike abandonment.  As an adult watching this children's program I got the greatest kick out of the sense of humour i.e. puns that, of course, the children didn't 'get'.  Why are you laughing mommy?

I loved all the characters, but my favourite ones just happened to be Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog So, I used my punches and made some book marks - one with Miss Piggy and one with Kermit, using the colors Pretty in Pink, and Garden Green.

I actually got the idea from Pinterest, but I couldn't track down the original author, so if you see your work on my blog please let me know and I will give you credit.

I wasn't sure if I got the characters looking like who they were supposed to be, so I held them up to my son so see if he could identify they, and he got the right answer immediately.

Miss Piggy:
Papers: Crumb Cake, Pretty in Pink, Whisper White, Marina Mist, Basic Black, Real Red
Punches:  Scallop circle, 1 3/8" circle, 3/4" circle, 1" circle, Two step own punch, Word Window punch
Accessories: A string of pearls, bookmark (non SU)

Kermit the Frog:
Papers: Garden Green, Real Red, Pretty in Pink, Whisper White
Inks: Always Artichoke
Punches: Ornament Punch, Pennant Punch, 3é4`circle punch
Accessories: Book mark (non SU)

These characters were fun to make and I`m not sure how realistic I made them (Kermit looks a bit drunk), but like I said - I had fun. Let me know what you think.

Lilac Flower - punch art

This spring everything is so early, so I expect that the lilac's will be early in blooming as well. The warm spell we had recently has thrown Mother Nature for a loop and everything is coming up early. The Lilac is one of my favourite spring flowers.  I will cut a few sprigs of Lilacs to bring into the house and their fragrance fills every room of the house.  Outside, their fragrance can be smelled  a block away.
And what is spring without the lilac.

Making the flower is a bit labor intensive, but once all the flowers are punched out the assembly goes quite quickly.
I punched out flowers using the Boho Blossom punch -in Concord Crush, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant as well as Whisper White which was sponged with Perfect plum. The center of the flowers are the pupils of the eyes from the Owl Punch. I used the white gel pen to highlight the flower centers. The flowers were layered with the various color shades in order to create the shape and depth of  the lilac flower.  The leaves were hand cut in Garden green and sponged with Always Artichoke ink. The entire flower was then spritzed with Vanilla spritz.

Stamp: You're a Gem
Inks: Perfect Plum, Always Artichoke
Papers; Concord Crush, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant,Whisper White,  Concord Crush designer paper
Accessories: Boho blossom punch, Whisper White Taffeta ribbon, Tab punch,  Owl Builder Punch, White gel pen, Scallop border punch, Vanilla spritz.

Template for Flowers - Build a Cupcake - from Video

This is the template I made showing how to cut the various petals using the various components of the Build a Cupcake punch. I used it on the video on making flowers with the Build a Cupcake Punch here, and there have been requests that I put this particular template on my blog.  I hope you find it helpful.
I have also put the video in the side bar.

The component of the punch is on the left, and these are lines drawn where I cut in order to get the petal  shape I want.  To the right is a sample flower.

This is more of a close up and you can see the cutting lines better.

Let me know if this helpful.
