Flowers Made at Flower Forming Workshop

Yesterday I attended a flower forming workshop at Class Act Scrapbooking in Oshawa, Ont.  Anyone who knows me knows that I love to make flowers.  It's one of my favourite 3D activity, so when I heard about this workshop I jumped at the chance to attend.

Flower Frenzy Friday - a flower embellishment-a tutorial

This is a first of what I hope will be a weekly feature on making paper flowers using current paper punches and framelits.
This week I am going to show you how to use the Bunch Punch in conjunction with the Botanical Builder framelits, to make a flower embellishment. To my utter dismay both the punch and the framelits are retiring the end of May.

Supplies Needed:

• Flower Bunch Punch
• Botanical Builder Framelit(for stem and leaf)
• Two colors of card stock (Calypso Coral and Flirty Flamingo) for flowers; Wild Wasabi for leaves
• Spritzer with water
• Stylus
• Ink pads to sponge flower edges (Calypso Coral, Wild Wasabi)
• Ink daubers
• Silicone mat
• Protective work surface
• Reverse tweezers
• Tombo glue

1. Punch 1 set of flowers in Flirty Flamingo; 1 set in Calypso Coral cardstock. Using two colours - a lighter one with a darker one makes a lovely variegated flower.
2. Die cut 2 of the leaves using the Botanical Builder framelits

3. Sponge edges of all flowers with Calypso Coral ink, using a finger dauber.  Sponge stem/leaves with Wild Wasabi ink.

4.  Spritz all lightly with water. This allows the sponged ink to blend and softens the fibers allowing them to be shaped easier.

5.  Let them dry a little.  Using a shaping tool or the end of a pencil, to "cup" each flower petal.

6.         First cup the petals from the wrong side.  This makes the petals curl up.

7.  Turn the petals over, and repeat the process.

8.  After all the petals have been treated this way, start building your flower. A reverse gripping tweezer is a great help with this.  Unlike a regular pair of tweezers which open when you squeeze the handles, the reverse tweezers close.  This gives you an extra "left" hand as the tweezers are holding the flower petal while you are holding the stylus in the right hand. While building the flower layers, alternate light and dark colors.  Also alternate petals with each layer.

Start building the flower starting with the largest petal decreasing the size of each petal per layer. A small amount of tombo placed in the center of each petal secures the layers.

Add the leaf to the underside of the completed flower.

You should have enough petals to make 2 sizes of flowers.

A pearl, or rhinestone could be placed in the center.

This flower has 3 layers, but a flower with more layers can be made.

Tea Bag Dispenser - Hand Stamped Sentiments #235

I used the color challenge with Hand Stamped Sentiments to make this Tea Bag Dispenser.  The top of the dispenser is decorated with hand made flowers.

The colours in the challenge were as follows:

 

The base of the dispenser is Smokey Slate cardstock and covered with Very Vanilla and Blackberry DSP.

Around the bottom of the dispenser a piece of Pool Party DSP is tied.  Above that is a die cut tea pot adhered to the dispenser using dimensionals.  The sentiment on the tea pot is from the stamp set "A Nice Cuppa"

The lid is decorated with hand made flowers , two of which are made of Pool Party cardstock.  The larger one is made using the Blossom petal punch and the Pansy Punch; the second with the spiral flower die.  The small one was made using the Petite Petal punch and Blackberry Bliss DSP. A large pearl is placed in the center.  The leaves were die cut in Smokey Slate using the Bouquet flower bouquet.  They were sponged with the same colour of ink and a bit of Blackberry Bliss.

All of these elements were adhered to a doillie which was coloured with Smokey Slake ink.
