Happy Otterversary

No, I did not misspell Anniversary.

I was commissioned to make an anniversary card featuring two otters holding hands.  Apparently one of the partners was crazy about Otters, and loved otter puns.

This topic was new for me so I started out doing a bit of research. I was surprised at the amount of otter related material there was. From that material I was able to download some pictures to colour and some otter puns to go with them.

This is the card:

It’s a z- fold with a finished size of 5 by 5 inches

To make it I took a 5 by 10” piece of Pretty Peacock card stock, scored it at 5 1/2” and at 8 1/4”. To form the Z, the card stock was first folded in the middle at 5 1/2” after which the other score line in the middle of the now front panel was folded back upon itself.

From the remainder of the Pretty Peacock cardstock I cut a smaller strip 2 by 10” which was scored the same as the card base. When I attached this to the card base I reversed the position of the score lines.

The Whale Done DSP, matted with Basic White cardstock, was used to decorate all surfaces of the card, including the strip.

The otters that were downloaded from the computer were coloured with Stampin’ Blends- a mixture of Crumb Cake, Smokey Slate, and Gray Granite. I then fussy cut them.
The two holding hands were adhered to a Basic White rectangle embossed with the Seabed Embossing folder and added to the front folded back panel.   A heart with the number 10 was placed in their hands and a red heart above their heads

The other two were positioned around a punny otter sentiment “ You are my significant otter”

Some sea grass was fussy cut from the DSP and adhered to the inside top edge of the strip before it was added to the card base.

Another sentiment was added to the strip using in part a die cut “happy” from the Well Saidset. Another otter pun completed the sentiment

On the back of the card I added some Basic White cardstock _ a place to write a personal note.

To finish the card, I added some DSP to a envelope flap

April Showers bring - Tulips - Paper Craft Crew Challenges #289

I have been so impatient for the spring flowers to appear!

And they have been so slow in doing so.  The Ice Storm of 2 weeks ago didn't help matters, but the temperature is rising now to more seasonal levels and hopefully we'll see some action - in the plant department anyway.

For the challenge with Paper Craft Crew #289 (April Showers Bring May Flowers) I pulled out a hostess stamp set that will be retiring the end of May.

The Tranquil Tulip stamp set has been a favourite of mine and I have used in on a number of occasions.  I will miss it.

These are my spring flowers - tulips arranged in a Z-fold card.  The base of this card is Wild Wasabi (retiring), scored at  5 1/2 and one panel scored again at  2 3/4".  Each section was layered with Whisper White card stock and then the green diagonal striped Delightfully Daisy DSP.

The tulips were stamped using the Stamparatus, fussy cut, put together with dimensionals and then adhered to a strip of window sheet inside a die cut crate.

For a sturdier structure, the crate was die cut from  a piece of Whisper White card stock stamped with the Woodgrain background stamp.  The edges were sponged lightly with Soft Suede ink.  To allow the crate to fold with the Z fold card, I removed the bottom of the crate and inserted a 1" insert inside for stability and for the tulips to attach to.

This crate was inserted into the Z of the card on 2 sides.  On the top front section I added a strip of Delightfully Daisy DSP as well as the sentiment (from Bunch of Blossoms).

Three colors(Rose Red, Rich Razzelberry and Daffodil Delight)  and 2 sizes of tulips were stamped and fussy cut.  The stems and leaves were also fussy cut, and after sponging all the edges, the flowers were assembled and adhered to a strip of window sheet.  This is turn was adhered to the inside of the wooden crate.

On the front I placed 3 small single tulips in a circle on a small white Doillie and placed a triple white organza ribbon just below them.

Some clear Wink of Stella was applied to the base only of all the tulips.  I found this glitter tended to smear the colour somewhat so limited its application to the base.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Tranquil Tulips (retiring), Bunch of Blossoms, Wood grain
Inks:  Rich Razzelberry, Rose Red, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Soft Suede, Basic Black
Papers:  Wild Wasabi, Whisper White, Delightfully Daisy DSP
Accessories:  White Delicate Doillie, 1/4" white organza ribbon, Stamparatus, Window Sheet, Wood Crate framelit die, dimensionals, Clear Wink of Stella

Z Fold Pop Up Birthday Card

Today is my day to make birthday cards, and since I like to make cards with unusual folds, I partially cased a card by Dawn G.
It is a Z-fold card with some pop up balloons- a wonderful birthday card for any gender.

The base is a 4 1/4 piece Calypso Coral scored at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2, then folded at 5 1/2 and folded back at 2 3/4 to form a Z.
A 2 1/2 by 4" piece of Gold Foil and a 2 1/4 by 3 3/4" piece of retired birthday DSP is adhered.
A 1 by 11" strip of Calypso coral card stock is also scored and folded at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2" .  On that strip a cluster of stars, is randomly stamped using Calypso coral ink. It is then adhered to the card front, with the other end adhered to the back of the card

Three pieces of window sheet 3" by 1/8"  are adhered to the back of this strip, and balloons attached to them using a glue dot.

The balloons are punched using the Balloon Builder punch - in Gold foil, Bermuda Bay, Mossy Meadow and DSP.  Tiny bows made with white Baker's twine are adhered to the base of each balloon.

This is the front half; below is the back half

On the back of the card I placed a piece of Whisper White so that a personal note can be written.

Supplies:

Stamps: Balloon Celebration, Party Pants (retired SAB)
Inks: Calypso Coral, Black Memento
Papers: Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, Mossy Meadow, DSP (retired), Gold Foil, Whisper White
Accessories: Balloon Builder Punch, 1 1/4" circle punch, 1 3/8" circle punch, window sheets, dimensionals, glue dots, white Baker's Twine
