Vintage Best Catch - Paper Craft Crew Challenges #342

The challenge at the Paper Craft Crew Challenges is a Tic Tac Toe one.  I chose to make a Vintage Masculine card featuring one of my favourite colours:  Mossy Meadow.

Tic Tac Toe Papercraft Challenge

Making a vintage card involves the use of neutral colours, sponging, distressing edges with a pair of scissors,  and tearing - all of which I did on this masculine card to make it look vintage.

The base card is Soft Suede.  On top of this I adhered a strip of DSP from Come Sail Away DSP, the top of which is torn. To the left of that and slightly overlapping this DSP is a piece of Soft Sea Green Card stock with the edges torn all the way around. Both pieces are sponged generously using Early Espresso ink.

Layered on the Soft Sea Green card stock is a well torn and distressed piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  Using Early Espresso ink, dots are randomly stamped using a retired Timeless Texture stamp followed by the image of the fisherman and the fishing hook.  A small amount of Pear Pizzazz is added to both these images.

On a separate piece of Very Vanilla card stock the fish is stamped, some colour applied then die cut.  After the edges are sponged the fish is adhered to the card front using dimensionals.

The bullrushes are die cut in Mossy Meadow, sponged with Early Espresso and adhered to the lower right.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Best Catch, Timeless Textures (R)
Inks:  Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Papers:  Soft Suede, Come Sail Away DSP, Soft Sea Green card stock, Very Vanilla, Mossy Meadow
Accessories:  Catch of the Day dies, Dimensionals

Best Friends Forever The Friday Mashup # 233

I was thinking of the 60's and 70's when I made this card.  The vintage stamp of the 3 friends by an obviously older model car wasperfect for the challenge with the Friday Mashup
Another one of the challenges was color blocking but I had to do a little research on this..

A trend that has periodically  come back into fashion since the ‘70s, colour blocking is done by selecting zones on a piece of cardstock and making them a different colour from the main. This technique is an easy way to highlight a feature or simply dress up a blank background.

Imagination is the only limit when it comes to colour blocking. Shapes vary from stripes, rectangles, squares, circles or a mix of several.  Shapes can be placed side by side or even overlapping.

So, this is what I came up with:

This week's Mashup Challenge:
  • Create a project using a Decades theme (60s/70s/80s/etc) .
  • Create a project with Color Blocking .
  • or Mash it Up! and create a project using a Decades theme and Color Blocking.

To do my colour blocking, I picked up the colours from the picture, and striped them alternately at an angle across a piece of cardstock.  Then I cut this finished piece into 4 pieces, matted them with black cardstock and mounted them on a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock.

The image was coloured with a blender pen and ink pads, and then lightly sponged with Tip Top Taupe ink.  The edges were distressed and then sponged with black.  It was then matted with black cardstock and mounted on the 4 color block pieces with dimensionals.

At the left end, some thick Baker's twine was wrapped around the cardstock and tied into a bow.

Then I went through my vintage button collectiion, selected two buttons, threaded them with linen thread and attached them to the side of the card front with glue dots.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Tin Can Mail by Inkakinkadoo
Inks: Black Memento, Cucumber Crush, Soft Sky, Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight, Tip Top Taupe, Elegant Eggplant, Smoky Slate
Accessories: Baker's Brown thick twine, Blender Pen, Linen Thread, White gel pen, dimensionals

Happy 90th Birthday for a Guy

I was at a craft show yesterday - not a good one.  You get those every once in a while.  But what I did get was a special order to make 2 birthday cards for a gentleman who turns 90 years today.  I had to make them in a hurry because they called me last night and need them for noon today.
Here is one of them:

This gentleman is interested in old things and in gold and silver, so I envisioned a vintage card featuring an old map.
I used a basic black cardstock layered with Typeset Specialty DSP which I stamped on with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp and Soft Suede ink.  The edges were then distressed and inked with Early Espresso ink.

The World Map stamp was stamped on a piece of Whisper White paper and using a sponge dauber I sponged on Marina Mist where I saw bodies of water, and soft suede and old olive (I stamped off first) for the land.  Then the piece was cut into 3 equal pieces, the edges distressed, inked with Early Espresso, and mounted onto basic black card stock-which was torn to match the patterned pieces.  They were mounted onto the card slightly overlapping each other.

Hope they like the card.
I'll show you the second card in a separate post.

Vintage Elements of Style - The Friday Mashup #46

"I'm not old, just vintage"  Sounds like they were talking about me - but I jest.
This is my card for the Friday Mashup challenge here

Here is the challenge:

My card:

The stamp  from the Elements of Style stamp set was watercolored, but very lightly to give the appearance that the color had faded. The Whisper White Cardstock was then torn and crumpled and lightly sponged with Crumb Cake ink.  The Marina Mist matting was also distressed.
The card base is Baja Breeze, with a Whisper White layer texturized with the Perfect Details texturz plate - and then lightly sponged with Crumb Cake ink.
The image was deliberately mounted "crooked" - as if the glue had worn away.
The embellishments in the corner were made with the butterfly punch - the punchie embossed with the square lattice embossing folder , then crumpled and sponged with Crumb Cake ink.   The ribbon flower was made by pulling a piece of thread tightly.  It was attached to the butterfly with a glue dot.

The photo corner punch was also sponged and crumpled.

Here is the recipe:
Stamps: Elements of Style, Friendly Phrases
Inks: Black Stazon, SU markers, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede
Papers: Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories: Butterfly punch, Photo corner punch, 1 3/4 by 7/8" oval punch, Victoria Crochet trim, Square lattice embossing folder, Perfect Details Texturz Plate
