Have Some Spooky Fun - Fab Friday #97

Most of the construction in my home is finished now and I find myself having time to play and make some cards.  I made this card for the sketch challenge with Fab Friday #97

 

This top fold card has a base of Pumpkin Pie, layered with Basic Gray and then Halloween Night Specialty DSP.  The later two layers were adhered at a slight angle.
In the middle, I placed a Crushed Curry circle for some whimsical reason became a yellow cat.  In the middle was adhered a skeleton, a Cookie Cutter Halloween critter, who is out trick or treating, I made him a little spookier by giving him googly eyes (retired) He is holding a bag full of loot in his hand.  Two black ravens, hoping for a treat, are following him around.

Spooky Fun Halloween - Pals Paper Arts #320

I've been so busy getting ready for my craft shows I've had little time to craft just for the joy of it.  Tonight it was Halloween cards, and to my surprise I am enjoying texturizing or grunging the cards.
This card was made for the sketch challenge at Pals Paper Arts
The sketch was wide open - like a lot of the open concept homes I have been seeing on decorating shows, and it allowed me to create what I wanted without boundaries.

 

 The card base is Pumpkin Pie made into a top fold A2 card.  The next layer, Whisper White, was the art layer.

The first thing I did was my favourite thing - sponging and applying texture to the art piece.  The edges were distressed using Basic Gray ink, and the rest of this layer was sponged with Night of Navy and Rich Razzellberry.

The moon was die cut from Daffodil Delight using the Layering circles framelit, sponged with Crushed Curry cardstock and adhered to the left side of the card. The black die cut tree was adhered somewhat in front of the moon, and die cut pumpkins placed underneath it.  Two bats were flying freely in the sky, but above the moon was a bat stamped in black on Smoky Slate, die cut, and adhered using dimensionals.  "Eek" echoed across the sky  Below is a close up.

On the right side I placed a 1/2" strip of pumpkin pie glimmer paper, and a Garden Green banner with the sentiment stamped on it was placed horizontally below the pumpkins.

Halloween Twist and Pop Card

This is my kind of card.  I love making it so much I made several bases for the twist and pop card in different colours of cardstock ready to be decorated.  But tonight I made not one, but 2 Halloween Twist and Pop cards. It did take me a long time to decorate, but the process was so relaxing ( I was in the "zone") I hardly noticed the passage of time.

 

The finished card has a belly band around it, which is secured in the back with velcro.

The card base is Pumpkin Pie, layered with Pumpkin glimmer paper, and then Halloween Night Specialty DSP.  In the middle is a piece of Whisper White which became the art piece.

I love the effect of using the Timeless Texture stamp around the edges of the art piece, and using a few other images randomly on the rest of the piece.  It just gives the card a spooky effect.
After spooking the edges, I began sponging, starting with the moon, and gradually adding other colours - Night of Navy, Rich Razzelberry and Pumpkin Pie.  The image of the moon from the stamp set "Spooky Fun" was then stamped over the Crushed Curry area, followed by the witch and a couple of bats. The entire art piece was then embossed with clear embossing powder.

A Basic Black die cut tree adhered to the bottom finished the image piece, except for the sentiment which was black embossed on Whisper White, punched with the Decorative Label punch.  I cut the punched piece in half, sponged the edges black and stamped a few bats on it.  Then it was adhered to the top of the art piece.

The magic comes when the card is opened, and do it gradually for the best effect.

Slowly.....  See it pop and start to twist??

Open more... more twisting..and you begin to see the art work inside.

This was so much fun to design.  I covered the inside of the card, top and bottom with the Halloween Night Specialty DSP, as well as the two outer panels. The two inner panels were 'spooked', using Timeless Texture stamp and die cuts from Halloween Scenes Edgelits.  The fence was cut in half so that it could continue along both the panels.

I did use a retired die "Boo to You" die cut in Pumpkin Pie glimmer paper to use as the sentiment on the upper part.

On the lower part the Lots of Labels framelits die cut in Whisper White and matted with Pumpkin Pie to provide a space to write .  Some stars punched using the Itty Bitty star punch were randomly adhered on the two side panels and the lower sentiment piece.

A Haunting we will go ---A Haunted House treat holder

The haunted house was fun to put together, but was somewhat time consuming, especially when making more than a dozen and filling them with treats.
I used the stamp sets "Sweet Home" and it's coordinating dies "Home Sweet Home Thinlets" as well as the "Spooky Fun" stamp set and "Halloween Fun Edgelits".

The Haunted House was die cut using Basic Black cardstock, with Pumpkin Pie trim.  A pumpkin pie brad became the door know.

Gold laser paper covered both windows from the inside, giving them an eerie look.

The roof was shingled with Smoky Slate cardstock and then covered with moss using tombo because my son said the house didn't look spooky enough. Not all the houses were given that treatment.

On a piece of Whisper White card stock, images of the flying witch, the ghost and the bat were stamped with Black Memento ink, and after they were die cut they were attached to various parts of the house.  I think in the 12 houses that I made, no two are exactly the same.

The pumpkins were stamped onto Pumpkin Pie cardstock, and after die cut were adhered to the side of the house that did not have a window.

A pumpkin Pie ribbon was tied around the haunted house to keep the door closed as it was filled with candy.

Spooky Fun

Happy Labour Day.  I hope you all had a chance to spend time with family and friends, have that last barbeque at the cottage before that dreadful drive home, and get to bed early for back to school/work, etc.

Today I spent some time in the craft room, and made this card for a card challenge in the Canadian Die Cut Exchange group. There is a different card challenge every month.

 

The Pumpkin Pie base is layered with Smoky Slate and then Whisper White, which is distressed with the Ghoulish Grunge stamps.
A 2 1/2 by 4" piece of Whisper White, the art piece, was placed off center in the top part of this layer.
This art piece was created this way.  First a 1 1/4" circle was punched and temporarily placed where the moon would be, and then the rest of the sky was sponged with Night of Navy, Rich Razzellberry, Crushed Curry, and Pumpkin Pie.  After the mask was removed from the moon, it was lightly sponged with Crushed Curry and a bit of Pumpkin Pie.  The witch was stamped over the moon, and 3 bats of different sizes were elsewhere in the sky.

A piece of "Halloween Night Specialty DSP" was cut in a wavy manner and the art piece placed under this.  A Halloween cat was perched on the edge of this DSP.

A tree from "Halloween Scenes Edgelits" was die cut in Smoky  Slate, sponged with Basic Gray and then adhered on the right slope of the DSP.  A fence die cut in Orange Glimmer Paper was placed below the tree.

Halloween Night

The Halloween DSP this year has one pattern of the DSP that has strips of "rows of spooky houses" which are perfect to make a quick Halloween card.

So, to make this card, I cut a strip that includes two haunted houses and that became the focal point of the card.

The strip of DSP was matted with Basic Black card stock, and a strip of scalloped Paper Pumpkin card stock was added at the lower end.  This strip was scalloped using the Banner Punch.  Lightly sponging this with Basic Black ink toned the brightness down and incorporated it more with the rest of the card.  Dimensionals were used to adhere this image to the card front near the bottom of the card.

The image of the witch was from the stamp set "Spooky Fun".  I also stamped a spider web and three spiders on the DSP above the image panel.

Spooky Halloween Night Card 2

Sponging can create the most awesome background effects.  In this second Halloween card, the background is also eerily made using sponging as the means to do so.
In yesterday's card, after creating the background, Halloween images were stamped in black.  Today's card using die cuts that coordinate with the stamp set.

Colours used to sponge the background:  Night of Navy, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Rich Razzelberry.  The moon was first stamped on the "clean slate" in Crushed Curry and then masked with a 1 3/4" circle punchie.

The all black die cut images are from "Halloween Scenes Edgelit dies".  After they were adhered in place, a white gel pen was used to make the white lines on images.  It was also used to create stars in the sky.

"Eek"  was stamped in three places randomly.

The base card is Basic Black, layered with Pumpkin Pie and then the sponged layer which was Whisper White.

Spooky, spooky- Card 1

I made 2 Halloween cards this morning, both of which used the sponging technique to create the background for a spooky Halloween night.
On this first card - below, which I am going to use in class, I stamped on the background, using the "Halloween Scares" stamp set.

Card 1

A 1 3/4" punched circle was used to mask the moon while the rest of the card front was sponged.  Colours for the background include:  Night of Navy, Crushed Curry, Smoky Slate, Pumpkin Pie.  The sponging was done in a random manner although I did drag some of the yellow from the moon into the rest of the sky.

After the mask was removed, the moon was sponged with Crushed Curry with a bit of  Pumpkin Pie.

                                                   

The stamping was done using Black Memento ink.  The sentiment is from "Spooky Fun"

To finish the card, I used a black ribbon (retired)  and wrapped it around the left side.
