Cowabanga!! Happy Birthday Dude

The Ninja Turtles were popular a decade or so ago, but there are still young boys who are fascinated by these mighty and fierce warriors.

I was asked to make a birthday card for a young boy who was fascinated with the "Blue Ninja Turtle".  Well, it's been a while since I researched anything related to the Ninja Turtles, after all my children are adults and its not something my Grand children are "into". So I had a task ahead of me. 

Fortunately the internet is full of very helpful information related to this topic.  I wanted to make sure I got the colouring of the "Blue Ninja Turtle" as accurate as possible.

Here's what I came up with:

I found a cut out of the body parts a Ninja Turtle on one of the Ninja Turtle sites as well as some pictures of the "Turtles".  So it was easy enough to colour the body, arms and legs as accurately as possible.

After colouring the parts, I cut them out and adhered the arms and legs to the body with brads- so yes, the arms and legs do move. Before adding them I sponged all edges with Basic Gray ink. Some Crystal Effects applied to the eyes made them come to life .  The completed "Blue" Turtle was added to a Daffodil Delight oval with dimensionals. A band of Pacific Point was adhered around the outside of this oval.

Again I used the internet to find smaller versions of the 4 turtles, copied and pasted them and printed them onto Whisper White card stock. Cowabanga I had made my own DSP which, after trimming, I matted with Pacific Point card stock and then  adhered this to  the card front. All edges again were sponged with Basic Gray ink.

The card base is Garden Green card stock, layered with Daffodil Delight.

The sentiment was stamped from "Happy Happenings" on Whisper White, matted with Pacific Point and added to the lower card front with dimensionals.

What's a birthday card without balloons?

So, I punched 3 balloons using the Balloon Builder punch - one large, and two smaller ones (in Pacific Point and Daffodil Delight). I embossed them with the polka dot embossing folder before adding them to the card front.

The Sky is the Limit Birthday - Try Stampin' on Tuesday or Not #330

A customer of mine has asked me to design a birthday card for her husband featuring the airplane from a retired SAB stamp set "The Sky is the Limit".  This is the 4th sample card I designed for her and I decided to use the sketch challenge with Try Stampin on Tuesday or Not


The optional theme was "portrait" and I suppose one could say this was a portrait of an airplane.

The base  card is Basic Black card stock, layered with Marina Mist and then a retired DSP that looks like mountain ranges from the sky.

In the upper center I die cut the complete circle of the sliding star framelits - so the airplane can make a complete circle in the sky. This was die cut through the DSP and the layering Marina Mist card stock.

In order for the airplane to spin in this track, it is important  to use a double layer of the shaker card tape.  So this was placed behind the center circle as well as the perimeter of the track.  Another tip -do not to place the tape too close to the track or else  plane will catch on the tape and not spin.

The plane was stamped separately on a piece of Very Vanilla, colored with a Marina Mist marker and cut out.  Two itty bitty flowers were punched in Vellum, adhered together alternating their petals and added to the propellers.

Two pennies were adhered together using two layers of dimensionals, and then added to the plane with another dimensional.

A couple of clouds were stamped, colored with a smoky slate marker and then cut out.  These were adhered to the center of the circle.

Wink of Stella (clear) applied to the plane wings and body.

At the bottom are 3 banners notched at one end - a basic black, one smoky slate and a marina mist banner upon which the sentiment is stamped.

Butterfly Tulle Shaker - Sunday Stamps #153

The challenge at Sunday Stamps this week is a color one.  The challenge is to use a minimum of 3 of the colors, plus a neutral of my choice. that I will post below the picture of the card I have made.

On a piece of Whisper White card stock embossed with the Fluttering embossing folder, two small butterfly were die cut. using the Bold Butterfly framelit.  This was to reveal the watercolor wash below.

The watercolor wash was done on a piece of watercolor paper using the following colors :  Daffodil Delight, Lucky Limeade, Marina Mist, and Tranquil Tide with Whisper White as my neutral.

The butterfly die cuts were converted into shakers by using glitter tulle instead of window  sheet
Small pearl flowers were used as the shaker elements.  If you look closely you can see some of the floral shaker elements in the picture below.

Some dark blue dimensional glimmer glue was dotted from each butterfly to mimic antennae.

This art piece was adhered to  Tranquil Tide card stock.

Butterfy on a Tulle window shaker

After making a Watercolor wash for another card I made a couple of days ago, I used it for today's card.  I again madee a tulle shaker with a butterfly. adhered to the front.

I must admit, I love making tulle shakers.  This time I used a tulle that had glitter embedded in it.

I made a window frame the same size as my watercolor wash back ground.  On the back of the window I adhered a piece of  white glitter tulle using tear and tape adhesive.  Another piece was adhered to the watercolor wash background.

Above is the watercolor wash background.
Sprinkle embellishments were added to the tulle on the watercolor wash back ground , and the top piece was added to the background piece.  Excess tulle was trimmed.

This was added to a Melon Mambo card front.  Two smaller punched Melon Mambo butterflies were added to the sentiment and on the front.

A butterfly was die cut using the Butterfly thinlet and adhered to the tulle.  Some dazzling details was added to the body of the large butterfly and the two smaller ones.

The sentiment is from Happy Happenings and stamped with Black Memento.

Country Livin' Meets Thoughtful Branches

Today I thought I would make a masculine birthday card.  I wanted to use the Country Living stamp set, but as I went along, I envisioned the Thoughtful Branches stamp set, which is still available from Stampin' Up while supplies last.

Here is how my card turned out:

After stamping all the images separately and colouring them with blender pens and ink pads, they were cut out and the background scenes created.

On a 3 1/4 by 3 3/4" whisper white piece, three trees were stamped from the stamp set "Thoughtful Branches".  Marina Mist ink and a scallop circle created the sky.  Two little cardinals landed in the trees near the truck, probably waiting for the apple load it was carrying.

The cut out truck was placed in front of the trees, and some applies were placed in the cargo - a few fell on the ground and sentiment.  Some Wink of Stella was applied to parts of the car and the apples.

On a separate Whisper White panel 3 3/4 by 1 5/8" a background was stamped with Crumb Cake and the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.  The boots were adhered near the top, and the guitar angles at the bottom and adhered with dimensionals.

Both panels were layered with striped Real Red DSP and separated from each other with a 1/8" strip of Real Red card stock.

The sentiment is from "Happy Happenings.

Congrats - From Land to Sea Try Stampin on Tuesday #276

The hot spell has finally broken and it looks like there might be some rain (at last).  But looking forward to the long weekend, the weather is going to be perfect for my craft show at Stoney Lake.

The card for the sketch challenge at Try Stampin' on Tuesday has a definite nautical feel.  I use the stamp set "From Land to Sea" and I feature the turtle.

 

• The background of the art piece was created by sponging 3 colours on a piece of Whisper White paper. - Night of Navy, Dapper Denim, Marina Mist.  After cutting it to size, the edges were sponged with Night of Navy.
• The image needed some sea grass, so I used the meadow grass from "In the Meadow" and stamped it in the lower left.
• One turtle was coloured, cut out and set aside.  But because I like to use the rule of "3's" I stamped two other turtles in the background.  I wanted to make it look like they were in the distance, so I stamped off twice before stamping on the art piece.  Look carefully and you will see them.  Perhaps in the close up below they can be seen better.

  The single turtle was coloured with a blender pen and ink pads, cut out, the edges sponged, and then adhered to the art piece using tombo glue. 
  
  
  Versa mark was applied to the entire art piece and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
  
  
  It was matted with Old Olive cardstock, and this unit was attached to the card front using dimensionals.
  
  
  The card base is Dapper Denim, layered with Whisper White embossed with perfectly polka dot embossing folder.  On top of that is Marina Mist embossed with Gently Falling embossing folder.

Congrats - The Paper Players a CAS #291 with Butterflies

CAS cards have always been difficult for me, but what has really helped me is being more conciencious about using the "Cost Calculator" on the SU website.

I no longer now go "Oh No! A CAS challenge"

This card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest, and I just love the gold foil Butterfly and I just love the simplicity of it.

The basic cardstock is Bermuda Bay, layered with Whisper White.

I then cut 4 pieces of cardstock 2 3/8" each ; 2 in 2 colours - Bermuda Bay and Pear Pizzazz.  Using the corner rounder, I rounded 2 of the 4 corners, and placed then near the top middle of the card, with one of the pointed ends of each square facing the inside.  I adhered them to the card front using tombo glue.

A medium butterfly was die cut using gold foil, and added to the middle of the squares with only tombo on the body.

The sentiment, from "Happy Happenings" was embossed with gold embossing powder.  I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to center the word.

Balloon Bouquet Birthday - a CASE

This card was cased from one I saw on Pinterest.  I was intrigued by the idea of using DSP from SAB and the Balloon Bouquet punch to make this card.

• Three different colours of the Perfectly Artistic DSP was punched with the Balloon Bouquet punch resulting in 6 different balloons in 2 sizes.
• Before adhering them to the Whisper White cardstock, the balloon strings were stamped using the "Balloon Celebration' stamp set.
• Then the balloons were arranged and then adhered to the card front - some adhered to the front, and then adhered using dimensionals.
• The sentiment was from the stamp set "Happy Happenings".
• A bow made with the 1/4" cotton Marina Mist ribbon was adhered to the bottom of the balloons using a glue dot.

 

• The base card is Marina Mist, layered with Whisper White embossed with the confetti embossing folder.  In the center of the embossing folder was a piece of Whisper White cardstock (the image piece) matted with Marina Mist cardstock.   

Congrats - a Gatefold Shutter card

This is one card fold I have never made before (actually I have never heard of it before), but I'm up to a challenge.  This was a task for one of the groups I am in.

I used a You tube video tutorial by Maria Russell.  She made the card look so easy by showing us step by step how to make this card. I was able to make it the first time. 

• This is the Gatefold shutter card closed, and held closed by a bellyband decorated with a flower made with various sizes of scallop circle punches.
• The base card is Very Vanilla, cut at 8 1/2 by 5 1/2" then scored at 2 1/8 and 6 3/8".
• I used Pacific Point cardstock with Pretty Petals DSP stack 

• The partially opened card shows the shutter component on the inside of the card.  The shutter is partially opened - opened enough to see that the word stamped in the middle is "Congrats" from "Happy Happenings"

• The card is fully opened - as is the shutter.  The circle in the middle of the center panel was made using a circle framelit.
• The inside is decorated using the Bird Builder punch and the Petite Flower punch.  Brights sequin embellishments adorn the middle of each flower, and a rhinestone is on top of that.

This card proved to be quite easy to make and my plan is to make more of them.
