Good morning Magnolia on a Step Panel card

 Along with the 5 in-colours mentioned in yesterday’s post, the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set and dies are also retiring.

Using one of the retiring colours, Purple Posy, I made a Pop-up card featuring this beautiful flower. Last year I visited my sister in Vancouver and visited a secluded garden with many Magnolia trees. The flowers on each tree were different colours and oh they were so beautiful!

I’m not good enough to emulate Nature but I tried  my best.

Using both the light and dare shades of Purple Posy I coloured the flower.  Daffodil Delight was used for the middle of the flower and both shades of Mossy Meadow for the leaves. I also added a touch of Daffodil Delight the leaves. When finished, the flower was die cut and set aside while I made the pop up base

.start with 2 pieces of card stock , a 5 1/2 by 8 1/2" (back pop up) and a 3 3/4 by 4 1/4" piece (front pop up).

. On the 8 1/2" side of the 5 1/2 by 8 1/2" piece, score at 4 1/4, 5 1/4, 7 & 8"

. On the  3 3/4" side of the 3 3/4 by 4 1/4" piece, score at 2 3/4 & 3 3/4"

.Fold and burnish all folds

Basic White: 

5 1/4 by 4" 1 piece for the back pop up

3 1/2 by 2 1/2" 1 piece for the front pop up

4 by 5 1/4" for the back of the card

4 1/4 by 4 1/4" for image and sentiment

Thinking of You

 Yesterday I made a video showing how I used the retiring In Colours to create a background.

Here is one card I made:

The card base is Rococco Rose card stock, layered with Basic White, and then a piece of the created background.  Before adding it to the Basic White layer, the edges were sponged with Rococco Rose ink.

Near the bottom, a piece of 1/2" scallop Linen Rococco Rose ribbon was added.

Using the Pretty Perennials stamp set, two of the larger flowers were stamped with Seaside Spray ink; the two smaller with Purple Posy.  All four were die cut using the Perennials Petals dies. The floral layers of the larger flowers were die cut with Basic White before being added with a glue dot.

Small leaves stamped with Pretty Peacock ink and then die cut, were added to the smaller blooms before being added to the card front.

A large die cut leaf and stem was added towards the right side.  The flowers were clustered around this stem, the larger blooms with dimensionals.

The sentiment, from " Good Morning Magnolia) was stamped with Pretty Peacock ink, punched with the Label Me Fancy Punch.  It was layered with Pretty Peacock card stock.

Faceted dots were added to the center of each flower.

Good Morning Tulle Shaker Card

I really love making shaker cards.  Usually I make them using window sheets, but today I am making a shaker card using glitter tulle instead of window sheet.  The use of tulle for shaker cards was inspired by Jennifer McGuire here .  Check out her video on how to make tulle shakers.

I haven' made a waterfall card in a long time and it was nice to go down memory lane.  This type of card fold is a great way to display retiring DSP and coordinating stamp.

Magnolia in Blue - Hand Stamped Sentiment #388

Magnolia flowers are starting to emerge from their branches even before their leaves.  I haven't seen any blue ones and this is were artistic expression comes in.  Today, for the sketch challenge with Hand Stamped Sentiments #388 my magnolia is blue.

On a Seaside Spray card stock base layered with some Vellum Specialty DSP (retired), a Magnolia flower was added.  A bit of the flower and leaf were trimmed off and that I placed in the inside of the card.

The Magnolia was stamped on a separate piece of card stock, coloured first with and aqua painter filled with alcohol rather than water, and ink pads of the following colours:  Daffodil Delight, Seaside Spray and Pear Pizazz.  The Stampin' Blend Seaside Spray marker was then used to shade and highlight certain areas.  After die cutting with the coordinating Magnolia die, it was added to the card front as indicated using dimensionals.

No flower is complete without glitter, so some Glitter Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds was added to the flower edges.

The sentiment, stamped in Pear Pizzazz, is from "Well Said", die cut with the Ornate Frame die and added to the card front with dimensionals.

Some Old Olive glitter gems were randomly added to the card front

Magnolia in black and white .....and coral - The Paper Players #454

This week the challenge at the Paper Players #454 is a colour one - Black and white plus one other colour. The other colour I chose was Calypso Coral.

The challenge, again, was to make a card using the following colours:  black, white. plus one other colour.  For my card , the other colour chosen was Calypso Coral.

On a piece of shimmer white card stock, the image of the Magnolia flower was embossed with the new black glitter embossing powder.  The flower only, (not the leaves) was then coloured using both the light and dark shades of the Calypso Coral blendabilities. Then using heat and stick powder, dazzling diamonds were added over the entire surface. The picture does not do the glitter on the flower justice.

This shimmery image was matted with Calypso Coral card stock and then added to a Basic Black card front.  The sentiment, also from Good Morning Magnolia, was stamped in Black Memento on Whisper White card stock, matted with Calypso Coral, and added partly to the image and partly to the card front.  For the latter a dimensional was used.

Three pearls on the upper right completed the card.

Magnolia in Gold

Today I chose to play with the Magnolia Embossing Folder and ended up making a simple but beautiful card.

Gold Foil was embossed with the Magnolia Embossing Folder.  To enhance the embossed lines, I rubbed a Black Stazon ink pad lightly over the embossed surface and let it dry before I cut the flowers out.

Dimensionals were used to adhere the flowers to some Basic Black card stock, which in turn was added to a Gold Foil Edged card base.

A gold embossed sentiment from Good Morning Magnolia was added to the upper left of the card front. Some gold glitter gems were also added.

Picture Gallery Card - Hand Stamped Sentiment #319

This card was made for the Inspiration Challenge with Hand Stamped Sentiments at this location

I call my creation the picture gallery card because it reminds me of different sizes of picture frames clustered together on a wall.  The design was inspired by the above picture.

To make the template in which the design elements will be added, I placed 2 sizes of stitched rectangle dies and 2 sizes of layering square framelits on a piece of Early Espresso card stock and die cut them with the Big Shot. This is added to an identical sized piece of Woodgrain DSP using dimensionals.

In the larger rectangle at the top left,  I placed a bouquet of Blushing Bride flowers on die cut Mossy Meadow stems die cut using the Bouquet Bunch dies. A bow made using the braided linen thread was added to the top part of the stem. This bouquet was placed at an angle with one end of the bouquet under the frame and the other end slightly over.  The bouquet extending over the end of the card was snipped off.

In the smaller adjacent square  is placed the sentiment "Hello"  from "Good Morning Magnolia". This sentiment is stamped with Early Espresso ink on Whisper White card stock and made into banner notched at both ends. The edges were sponged with Crumb Cake ink before it was adhered in the square at an angle using dimensionals, 

In the rectangle frame in the lower right a vase of flowers is created using the Varied Vase stamp set and die cuts using Bouquet Bunch dies.  The outline of the vase is stamped using Black Memento ink and then filled with Crumb Cake ink.  After fussy cutting, the edges were sponged and the other die cut stems and were adhered to the wrong side of the vase. This was then added to the frame using dimensionals.  Three flowers stamped using Flirty Flamingo ink was adhered randomly on the stem and a tiny pearl added to each flower center.

In the smallest square an identical size of Whisper White is die cut and placed in the square.  Two Flirty Flamingo flowers with leaves were then added.

The completed frame was added to a Flirty Flamingo card front with dimensionals.

Magnolia in Black and White - SUO Challenges #227

Today is a perfect summer day - sunny, warm with low humidity.  After spending some time in the garden, I came inside to make a card for the sketch challenge with SUO Challenge #227.

I guess I must have had flowers on my mind, because the card I made featured a flower.

On a Thick Whisper White card stock base, I added 4 equally spaced panels of Magnolia Lane DSP.  Each panel is 7/8 by 5 1/4".

On a 3 by 4 1/4" Whisper White art piece, the large Magnolia flower is embossed with the new Black Glitter embossing powder.  Wow, what wonderful shimmer!

The sentiment is embossed with the new White Glitter Embossing powder on Basic Black card stock, and adhered to the top of the art piece. 

Before adding the art piece to the card base with dimensionals, it is matted with Basic Black card stock, so that a small portion of Basic Black card stock showed only on the two long ends, and some clear faceted gems are added randomly .

Hello Enjoy Today Another Magnolia Card

The Magnolia DSP is absolutely gorgeous!
Quite by accident I discovered that one of the dies can be used to die cut one of the Magnolia flowers directly from the DSP.

Below is the card I made using these die cuts

The base card is a top fold Basic Black, layered first with Whisper White and then Magnolia Lane DSP which had been matted with Mossy Meadow card stock.

Some Mossy Meadow Baker's twine was wrapped around the DSP/Mossy Meadow piece before it was adhered to the card front.

The art piece is a rectangle of Whisper White with a Balmy Blue washed background.  A Basic Black stitched frame encases this background.

The  sentiment is Black embossed on the lower part, and three die cut Magnolia buds are adhered with dimensionals at the top.

This art piece is adhered to the card front at an angle.

On the inside I place a strip of DSP as well as another floral die cut.

Good Morning Magnolia

Finally, we're experiencing some Spring weather!
A sure sign of Spring is the appearance of Magnolia blossoms and today I'm using one of the bundles in the new Annual catalogue available June 4, the lovely Magnolia bundle.  I just love the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set with its coordinating Magnolia Memory dies and wonderful DSP.

The Magnolia was coloured with Stampin' Blends - Petal Pink, Daffodil Delight, and Old Olive. Some of the areas on the leaves had the colour lightened using the Color Lifter.  The flower was then die cut with the coordinating dies and added to a Basic Black card front the bottom of which had been die cut with a decorative edge piece.   A second decorative edge was die cut in Old Olive and adhered just below the Basic Black edge. This was added to a Petal Pink card base.
