Floating Panel Gatefold Card with Butterflies

 Butterflies are everywhere.  So are this fun fold called a Floating Panel Gateway  card described in a tutorial by Dawn in a video here . 

Today I thought I would make this fun fold card to highlight the new Butterfly Brilliance stamp set. I also include butterflies from other stamp sets.

The 5 1/2 by 8 1/2"  Bermuda Bay card base is scored at 2 1/8" at either end, folded in to the center and the folds burnished. This is the Gatefold portion.

On the inside, I placed a 5 1/4 by 4" piece of the new Butterfly Boutique DSP which is only available for this special.

The square panels are "floating" on either side with a folding mechanism.  The mechanism is a 5 1/4 by 1" piece of Whisper White scored at 1, 2, and 4 1/4".  The panels consist of a Whisper White piece which is 2 1/4 by 2 1/4" matted with Bermuda Bay card stock 2 1/8 by 2 1/8".

Before matting them together, the square which will be placed at the top is stamped with the sentiment "Birthday Wishes" from "Butterfly Wishes" and underneath that a layered butterfly created using the Butterfly Brilliance stamp set and coordinating dies.  The square for the bottom is stamped with 3 colours of ink applied with the Stampin markers, using a Sale-a-bration stamp set which is no longer available. A small butterfly is also added above the sentiment.

The floating mechanism is first attached to the inside of the fold.  Adhesive is added to the end with only 1 score line.  It is then added, adhesive side up, with the edge on the score line, and the card closed.  Adhesive is then applied to the other end, and with the card open, the mechanism is folded under and added to the inside.  The matted squares are then added to the area between the score lines.

Added to the front panels is another pattern of the Butterfly Boutique DSP.  Images from the Butterfly Gala stamp set as well as small butterflies from the Butterfly Brilliance stamp set and dies are added to a Whisper White panel die cut with the Ornate Layer die.

The sentiment on the left panel is die cut with the Stitched so Sweetly die and matted with Bermuda Bay. Small butterflies are added below and above it.

A 'Global' Happy Birthday - Hand Stamped Sentiments #322

Over the last few days I have been playing with the new "Still Scenes" stamp set which is about to be released when the Holiday catalogue debutes in one day on September 4.  All cards I made with this set were Christmas cards, but I could not see why a globe card could not be for other occasions as well. 

So, I made a 'globe' birthday card for the Inspiration Challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments

The base card of Seaside Spray is layered with Whisper White, and then Rococco Rose DSP.    The DSP is die cut using the Snowglobe scene die and this opening was used as a template to draw a faint pencil line on the Whisper White layer to outline the 'globe' area .

Three flowers and  small butterfly were stamped in Seaside Spray, Blackberry Bliss and Rococco Rose.  The petals of the flowers were curled after which Shimmer Crystal Effects and Stampin' Glitter was applied.  The butterfly was layered onto another butterfly and Crystal Effects applied as well.  Small pearls coloured with Blackberry bliss Stampin' blends were placed in the center of each flower.

Before adding the flower and butterfly to the penciled area, a 'dot' stamp from 'Still Scenes' was stamped multiple times in Rococco Rose to create some background interest, and the branch from 'Butterfly Wishes' was stamped across the middle.  The flowers and butterflies were then added.  Small pearls were randomly added to the background.

The globe and DSP was added to the card front.  The base of the globe, die cut in Smoky Slate was adhered below the globe using dimensionals. A bow made with Whisper White ribbon coloured with a Seaside Spray blendability was added to the base of the globe.

Extra butterflies punched with the Butterfly Duet punch in Seaside Spray were added to the card front and on top of the globe.

The sentiment, stamped in Rococco Rose, was added dangling from the globe

This Fun Fold card, with 5 folds, is a neat way to show off beautiful DSP

Below the card is closed

Opened all the way revealing the folds and adhered DSP. A sentiment can be stamped on and/or a personal message written on the Whisper White piece.

• Garden Green card stock 5 1/2 by 4 1/4" - card base
• Soft Sea Foam card stock embossed with the Basket weave Embossing Folder - adhere to card base
• Garden Green card stock 11 by 4 1/4" scored at 1 1/2, 3, 5 1/2 and 8" and then accordion folded.  Burnish folds well and then adhere the following to this piece.

Flower:

• Punch 2 Whisper White flowers using the Daisy Punch
• Punch 2 Whisper White flowers using the Medium Daisy Punch
• Punch 1 Daffodil Delight flower using the Medium Daisy Punch

Shape petals of large Daisies so the petals fold down.  Adhere two together alternating petals

Shape one of the smaller Daisies so the petals face downward, and the other so they face upward.  Adhere two together alternating petals

Curl Daffodil Delight flower into a tight ball and adhere to center of flower

Punch 2 Leaves using Petal Punch- shape and add to flower base and adhere completed flower to 2 5/8" square.
