A Good Man has a Barbecue

It's almost BBQ weather, but not quite.  Although most of the snow is gone it's still quite cool and by all accounts winter has not loosened its tight grip.

For this masculine card, I decided to combine two stamp sets:  "A Good Man" and "Outdoor Barbecue" and feature a new background technique using vellum and Stampin' Blends.  A tutorial on the Vellum background and Stampin' Blends will be on a separate post.

All layers of this card were die cut using the stitched rectangle dies.

Both images from separate stamp sets were coloured with a combination of watercolour pencils and Stampin' Blends.  The guy in the lounge chair, with a bottle of ketchup (yup not beer) on the ground beside the chair, is from "A Good Man"; the barbecue is from "Outdoor Barbecue". Some Crystal Effects is added to the Barbecue to give it more of a metallic appearance. The hamburger, flame, and bottle of ketchup were stamped on a separate piece of Whisper White card stock and fussy cut.

The image piece is matted with Bermuda Bay card stock, and before adding it to the card front with dimensionals, some glitter Bermuda Bay Baker's twine (SAB) was wrapped around one end.

Whisper White card stock embossed with the Hexagon embossing folder is added to the Bermuda Bay card base.  A 2 1/4" piece of the Vellum created using Stampin' Blends is added to the embossed Whisper White. A tutorial on how to create this Vellum background will be posted separately.

Relaxing at the Beach - Try Stampin' on Tuesay #414

The hot lazy days of summer are finally here!  The Spring was rainy and cool, great for the garden, but not so great for enjoying the outdoors.  Hot, humid weather is forecast, but hopefully not as hot as what Europe is experiencing.  However, hot enough to enjoy the beach.

That's exactly what the gentleman in the card I designed for the challenge with Try Stampin' on Tuesday #414 (theme summer fun) is doing - relaxing at the beach.

The card base is Coastal Cabana card stock, layered with a piece of Whisper White card stock embossed with the Subtle Texture embossing folder inked with Coastal Cabana ink.  I love the tone on tone effect.

On this layer are added two different panels of DSP matted with Gray Granite card stock. One strip (the smaller) is from Follow Your Art DSP, and the larger one with the Sea Gulls from Bird Ballad DSP.  I sponged the edges of both DSP panels with Gray Granite ink to blend the two different designs for the purposes of this card.

The gentleman relaxing on a chair on the beach is from "A Good Man".  The ocean behind him is stamped using a Waterfront stamp ; the sky washed with a watercolor pencil and an aqua painter, and the beach sand created using glimmer embossing paste coloured with Sahara Sand reinker. 

I stamped some birds in the sky from "Sailing Home". 

Because the sentiment was too long for the art piece, I using a Basic Black marker to high light the words so that the sentiment could fit on the art piece. Dimensionals are used to add the sentiment to the art piece.

This art piece is added to the card front with dimensionals.

To finish the card, a bow made using the braided Sahara Sand trim is added to the bottom of the smaller DSP panel.

A Good Dad .....

A day to celebrate fathers is coming soon in June, but Father's Day is every day. The new stamp set "A Good Man" is a different type of masculine set, depicting a father being a father.

In this card, the child on the father's shoulder is obviously delighted and you can almost hear shouts of glee.

The image of the child on his father's shoulder is coloured with watercolour pencils and the colours blended with a blender pen.  The sky was washed with an aqua painter. It was die cut with the Stitched Rectangle Die and adhered at an angle on a Rich Razzelberry frame which was also adhered to the card front at an angle.

The wonderful sentiment, matted with Rich Razzelberry card stock is added to the right front.

The card base is Rich Razzelberry layered with Whisper White embossed with the new Button Button Embossing Folder.  To the left is a small strip of Whisper White randomly stamped with hearts and the phrase "You're the Best:  The hearts are only partially coloured in so they are not too noticeable.  Three hearts are stamped, coloured and fussy cut and used as embellishments on the upper right of the card front.
