Altered Glass Candle Holder - a craft show item

I altered these glass candle holders from the Dollar Store with the intent to sell at a craft show or use as Christmas presents. The candle holder is attached to the black lid ring so the candle is suspended in the middle of the jar.

When I saw these candle holders I knew exactly how I would alter them.

To start with, I removed the black ring lid with the candle holder attached and set aside.  Then using a paint brush, I applied Mod Podge all over the glass container.

Then I applied Dazzling Diamonds all over the container and set it aside to dry.

Once dry, I sprayed the glittered jar with a fixative, but if you don't have a fixative some inexpensive hair spray will work just as well. This prevents the glitter from coming off and making a mess.

Then I wrapped some thick twine around the neck of the glass container - about 4 times or so, and adhered it with hot glue. In one of the other jar, I attached the twine around the black lid instead.  I like them both.

The embellishments I scrounge from various sources.  The pine branches were snipped off  the ends of an 8' garland : the other items from various picks that I dismantled.  I arranged the elements the way I liked then hot glued it to the neck of the jar on the twine.  Then I made a bow from the twine, attached two red bells on a string and suspended this from the bow and hot glued the bow to the top of the decoration.  Then put the lid and candle holder back on the jar

To finish, on one of the jars I added some home made texture paste to the branches and sprinkled glitter on this to simulate snow.

Some battery operated tea lights from the Dollar store provided the finishing touch.

When lit, it looks really cool sitting on a mantle.

Estimated cost:  Under $4 each.
Estimated time:  Under an hour each.
Estimated value:  Priceless.
