A Cupcake Birthday - Global Design Project #043

The challenge at the Global Design Project this week is a theme one - a party.  The most common reason to party seems to be for a birthday.  Birthday cakes continue to be popular, but increasingly cupcakes are becoming the delicacy of choice for birthdays.

So, my party incorporates cupcakes, and the card I made features a cupcake with hand made icing.

The retired circle card thinlet was used to make the Calypso Coral card base.  The front flap was embossed with the Decorative Dots embossing folder.  On the back portion of the card a piece of retired birthday DSP featuring small balloons, some of which are embossed in gold.

On the flip/flop circle, a scalloped circle was die cut using one of the accessories that come with the thinlet.  I picked one of the colours from the DSP - Bermuda Day.

On this Bermuda Bay scallop, a cupcake was built using the "Cupcake Celebration" stamp set.  The bottom part was stamped with Soft Suede and punched out using the coordinating Cupcake punch.  It was adhered directly onto the Bermuda Bay scalloped circle.

The top part of the cupcake was stamped and also punched out and then positioned above the cupcake cone using dimensionals.  Some homemade icing (see recipe at bottom of post) was then  applied along with edible sprinkles (which I found in my cupboard).

The sentiment, from Cottage Greetings" was stamped with Black Memento onto Whisper White cardstock matted with Bermuda Bay.  Only the left half was sentiment piece was adhered to the card front.
