Here's to You - Distressed Chipboard Butterfly - The Friday Mashup #37

It's hard to believe that Christmas is only 9 days away.  I'm not nearly ready.  So much to make, and so little time but there's always time to make a card for The Friday Mashup - because it's that time again!

This week's challenge is to use some chipboard and distress it.

  1. Make a project featuring "Chipboard (Precut or Diecut )".
  2. Or Make a project using the colors "Distressing (w/ ink, scissors or the Cutter Tool Kit)".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Distressed Project featuring Chipboard".

The card I made for this week's The Friday Mashup features a chipboard butterfly that  was distressed using a sanding block and ink.
I chose a butterfly because I was thinking about a story my daughter, who is a school teacher, told me about one of her Grade 3 students.
Every week she has them write a story or a poem about a positive human quality.  At the same time she is teaching the concept about metaphors. Last week it was the word "Compassion".
Now, I would have had trouble with this assignment, but one young boy had no trouble.  He hunkered down and wrote a poem and when the Principal came into the room, he read it to the her.  He told her that compassion made him feel like he had wings - and went on to explain, not that he could fly, but it made him feel like he had wings and could fly.
I think he grasped the concept of both compassion and metaphors.
This card is for him.
"Here's to You" young man - something that does fly.

The first thing I did was prepare the chipboard butterfly.  One half of the butterfly was inked with Marina Mist ink using a dauber, and the other half was covered with designer paper.  The edges were then sanded and inked with Night of Navy ink. Four flowers were punched using the reverse side of the designer paper and the Boho blossom punch.  Large pearls were added to the center of the flowers and they were attached to the inked side of the butterfly. A bow made  of  Crumb Cake ribbon was attached to the body of the butterfly.

The butterfly was now ready to fly and find some flowers. Here he is close up.

The base of the Night of Navy card card stock 5 by 5", followed by a layer of Baja Breeze, Soft Suede, and finally Pocketful of Posies designer Paper.  Crumb Cake seam binding was attached to the lower part of the card, using glue dots.
Tomto glue was used to attach the butterfly to the card, making sure it faced the flower on the designer paper.  Two strips of tiny pearls became instant antennae and the butterfly came to life.
The sentiment was stamped in basic black on whisper white card stock and punched out using the 1 3/4 by 7/8" oval punch,
The edges of all papers were sponged with Night of Navy ink.

Stamp: Friendly Phrases
Inks: Marina Mist, Night of Navy
Papers: Night of Navy, Baja Breeze, Soft Suede, Pocketful of Posies designer paper, Whisper White, On Board Chipboard butterfly (On Board Merry Medly)
Accessories:Boho blossom punch, 1 3/4 by 7/8" oval punch, 3/8" Crumb Cake seam binding, Large Pearls, mini pearls

Hope you enjoyed my card, and give kudoos to all the Grade 3 students who can write poems and so metaphors.
