Travel Log - Friday Mashup #30

I wanted to make one of these books for my craft sale and had not gotten around to doing it.  This challenge provided me with the impetus to do so.
The challenge this week with the Friday Mashup here - "Recycle, Renew, Reuse" is a theme close to my heart.  I recycle and reuse as much as I can, not only at home, but in my crafting.  Already I reuse the "snake" that comes in all our Stampin' Up orders - smoothing it out, ironing it, and using it for gluing and messy work on my desk, as well as for making other projects.
For this challenge I made a Travel Log- almost entirely from recycled or reused materials. Even the pages in the book are made from the packing paper.
The design on the cover was made following the sketch challenge with The Friday Mashup

Stamp Sentimental Journey (retired)
Inks: More Mustard, Old Olive, Soft Suede, Early Espresso
Papers: Packing paper from SU orders, Cardboard from Designer Paper, Crumb Cake, Chocolate chip, Very Vanilla
Accessories: Rope Twine (retired), Jumbo Eyelets, Houndstooth embossing folder, Wild Wasabi embossing powder, Assorted buttons (non SU), glue gun, 1 1/4" Early Espresso Striped Grosgrain ribbon cut in half and frayed (a piece left over from another project) 2 1/2" circle punch, quilting batting

What did I recycle/reuse/renew?
1.  Cardboard from designer paper was used to make the book covers and spine.  It was also double embossed with the houndstooth embossing folder and Wild Wasabi embossing powder.
2.  SU packing paper was used to cover the cardboard book covers and spine .  First I crumpled them up, then smoothed them out very carefully (the paper is very fragile) and smeared first More Mustard, then Old Olive, and finally Soft Suede ink over the entire surface.
3.  A piece of quilting batting was cut to size and placed between the card board and the packing paper of the covers.  This gave the covers some substance and strength.
4.  Buttons from various sources was used to create the focal image.
5.  The sentiment was from a retired stamp set.
6.  The ribbon was from my ribbon jar - left over from another project.

Hi Maria, now that's what I call recycling! What a fabulous creation. Love that you made the book rather than altering one.

Did you decorate the inside pages?

Thanks so much for sharing this project with us.

Cheers,
