Birthday Explosion Box - SUO Challenges #141

The theme with SUO Challenges  this week is "Happy Birthday'.  Instead of a card I decided to make something 3D for my craft table in May - an explosion box specifically for a birthday. I did not use a particular tutorial to make this explosion box, but elements of different ones.

Front view of the lid of the explosion box

The lid is made using Pool Party cardstock, and the top lined with Whisper White and cupcake DSP (retired).  A spider web doillie (white side showing) was then adhered to the top before adding the floral elements.
A strip of large scalloped Chocolate Chip cardstock die cut using the Tasteful Trim die (retired) was adhered around the lid.  A zigzag strip of Pool Party was then die cut using the same retired die and glued to the scalloped chocolate chip strip. A bow of Pool Party glitter ribbon was placed on the front center (to hide the seam where the 2 strips met).

Other side of front of box lid showing the Happy Birthday sign.

The flowers were made using a number of sources:  Spiral flower die, Petite Petal punch, 3 flowers from the Spring floral kit (daisy, mum,)  The leaves are from the Botanical build framelits/dies.
The sentiment that I made into a sign is from the stamp set " Another Great Year".  The image was stamped with Black Memento and coloured with Pool Party and the Wink of Stella clear glitter brush, and then with Calypso Coral.  The image was then cut out, but some tabs were left on the bottom so that it could be adhered to the top of the lid and the flowers were clusterd around it.

Open the box, and you get a surprise!  I really wanted a 3 layer cake, but could not find a template for one and my head couldn't get around designing one.  So, I downloaded the template for a birthday hat, reduced it in size, decorated it and adhered it to the center of the box.

This is the bird's eye view.  You can so see how the inner 4  flaps were decorated.

Close up of the cone.  It was made of another retired birthday DSP and decorated with yellow and calypso coral bauble ribbon (retired).

The other layers of the explosion box were decorated as follows:

First Layer:  Whisper White with a Pool Party die cut stamped with a birthday image.  The word "wish big" was stamped twice, cut out and placed on top of the original stamped image with dimensionals.  Tiny Chocolate chip flower, with a rhinestone in the middle, were placed at each end of the die cut.  Some cupcakes were cut out from the DSP and adhered to this layer.

Note:  all outer edges are rounded using the round edger punch.

Second Layer:  Pool Party cardstock, with half of a chocolate chip piece of cardstock cut diagonally.

Third Layer: Whisper White, layered with Pool Party. then a doilley die cut using the Perfect Pennant die was adhered to the center.  At the top is a piece of Pool Party glitter ribbon.

Fourth and Final Layer: DSP, layered with Whisper White cardstock.  At the top end, a pocket was made from the DSP, and a small piece of Pool Party was inserted in the pocket.  It was stamped in the right corner.  This is meant to write a small note on.
