Cupcake Box - SUO # 123

At SUO this week, the challenge is  to make a project – card or other paper crafted project – with sweets as a theme.

I had seen the tutorial for the cupcake box at splitcoaststampers  a number of weeks ago and have wanted to make it, but I never seemed to have the time.  The challenge at SUO this week gave me the perfect opportunity to do so.

The project is a cupcake box.  It is a box that looks like a cupcake and one puts treats/sweets inside.  I just thought it was so cute!

  • The lower part of the box is an ordinary paper cup cut to just under 2" from the bottom.
  • A 2 by 12" piece of DSP, preferably with stripes was scored every 1/4" and fan folded.
  • A hot glue gun was used to attach this fan folded piece of DSP to the paper Cup.
  • Cut a 2 3/4" styrofoam ball in half (use a kitchen knife)
  • Using a circle framelit, but a circle using the DSP (other side) and die cut a circle that is closest in size to the bottom of the 1/2 styrofoam ball, and adhere it using a hot glue gun.
  • Using the Petite Petal punch, I punched about 40 to 50 flowers from the DSP, and sponged the edges of all of them with Hello Honey ink.
  • 20 of them were placed on a foam pad and using the larger end of the stylus pressed the middle of each flower into the foam causing the flower to curl.  Set aside.
  • Start attaching the straight flowers at the edge of the styrofoam top by inserting a straight pin in the middle of each flower.  Do at least 2 rows.  Fill in the remainder with the curcled up flowers.  The top now looks like this:
To decorate the box, I  stamped one of the stamps from "Oh My Goodies" three times -first with Bermuda Bay, then with Tangelo Twist, and finally with Hello Honey.  This sentiment was die cut using the Deco Labels framelits.  The Tangello twist was cut out free hand, as was the Hello Honey piece.
The pieces were adhered together - the Tangelo Twist with Tombo glue, and the Hello Honey piece with dimensionals.
A piece of Tangelo Twist ribbon was adhered all the way around the base of the cupcake box, and the die cut sentiment was attached using dimensionals.

Isn't this the cutest box for sweets?

I also used a styrofoam ball and a small paper cup, as well as straight pins and the Petite Flower punch
