Shimmer Butterfly card - To Cheer You

I made this 5 by 7" card at the request of a student who has a fellow worker aged 26 diagnosed with cancer.
I did not want to make a card that looked like a sympathy card, nor did I want it to look too cheerful. This is what I settled on.

After making the butterfly in the previous post, I decided to experiment making another butterfly this time using the more detailed framelit and thinlet as my mask and Prussian Blue Brusho crystals along with the Shimmer Texture paste. I had to be careful I did not use too much of the Prussian Blue Crystals as this is a very intense colour.

After taping the butterfly framelit and thinlet onto watercolour paper, I sprinkled only a tiny amount of Prussian Blue Brusho Crystals onto them, followed by the application of a generous amount of Shimmer Texture Paste.

The result was a lovely pale blue.  After the paste dried, the butterfly was die cut using the corresponding framelit die.

Then using the Iridescent glimmer paper  from the Myths and Magic Glimmer Paper Pack, I die cut a butterfly thinlet and adhered it to the die cut butterfly which was now dry.

The excess coloured paste was applied to a piece of Whisper White card stock, and when dry, I punched out 4  scallop circles (1 1/4").  The butterfly were mounted on these.

The butterflies were mounted on some Whole Lot of Lovely DSP edged with a strip of Iridescent Glimmer Paper.

This was adhered to a Whisper White layer embossed the Scattered Sequin Embossing Folder, which in turn was adhered to a Soft Sky cardstock base.

Supplies Used:
Stamp:  Friendly Phrases (non SU)
Ink:  Black Memento
Papers:  Watercolour, Whisper White, Soft Sky, Whole Lot of Lovely DSP, Iridescent Glimmer Paper
Accessories:  Bold Butterfly Framelits, Butterfly framelits, 1 1/4" scallop circle punch, 3/8" Pool Party shimmer ribbon, Scattered Sequin Embossing Folder, Dimensionals, 1/2" circle punch, Shimmer Texture Paste, Brusho Prussian Blue Crystals

Gorgeous Butterfly - Brusho and Glimmer Texture Paste

Today I played - using the new Shimmer Texture Paste with Brusho crystals.  I used various dies and decorative masks, but the one I like the best is this butterfly I created.

Using the Bold Butterfly Framelit taped to a piece of Watercolour paper, I sprinkled a tiny bit of red and yellow Brusho crystals within the confines of the framelit.

Then, using a palette knife, I added some of the new Glimmer Texture past and mixed the paste with the Brusho - the paste being wet activates the Brusho crystals.

When I was happy with the result, I removed the butterfly framelit and set it aside to dry.  While it was drying I washed the framelit thoroughly.  This last step is very important.
Using Basic Black cardstock, I die cut a Butterfly thinlet the same size as the framelit.

When dry, the butterfly was die cut using the butterfly framelit.

The two were adhered together at the body only using tombo glue.

BRRR - It's colder than the Antartica!!

This morning when I woke up it was minus 28 degrees C. with a wind chill of minus 35.  It's warmer in the Antartica  than it here in Southern Ontario.

I got this cute little Penguin with Ear Muffs on for Christmas- a perfect stamp for a chilly winter day.  The title BRR says it all.

Previously I had experimented with making backgrounds with Brusho Crystal Colour, and I used one of them for this project using it as a backdrop for my cute little Penguin.

Background:
I used Prussian Blue, Moss Green, Gamboge, and Yello crystals to create the background on watercolor paper and die cut it with a circle framelit. It was matted with a Dazzling Diamond scallop circle.
Before adding the Penguin, I added some Glimmer Texture paste at the bottom to simulate snow.  Then using one of the new decorative masks, I added some more Glimmer Texture paste in the sky to make it look like it was snowing.  While the paste was drying, I coloured the Penguin.

After stamping the Ear Muffed Penguin (from Frog's Whiskers), he was coloured with Stampin Blendabilities (Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler for the ear muffs; Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie for the nose and feet; Smoky Slate for the body)  I added some extra black using a Basic Black marker.

After fussy cutting him I added him to the prepared background with dimensionals and applied 3D Crystal Lacquer to the body.

The basic card has a 5 by 5"  Island Indigo base layered with Whisper White embossed with the Woodlands embossing folder.  I lightly sponged this with Soft Suede ink to bring out the details of the birch trees.
I had some background left over, so I attached it to a strip of Dazzling Diamond glimmer paper and added it horizontally across the card. Some silver Baker's twine was wrapped around it and tied in a knot at the right side.

The art piece was added to the card front using dimensionals.

I  stamped the letters BRR using the Hand Lettered Alphabet stamps set , added each letter to a piece of Island Indigo card stock and placed them on the right side of the card.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Ear Muff Penguin (Frog's Whiskers), Hand Lettered Alphabet (SU)
Inks:  Black Memento, Stampin' Blendabilities, Black Marker,  Brusho crystals for background, Soft Suede
Papers;  Whisper White, Island Indigo, Dazzling Diamond Glimmer Paper
Accessories:  Woodlands Embossing Folder, Circle and Scallop circle framelits, Shimmer Texture Paste, Decorative Mask, 3D Crystal Lacquer, snowflake punch, Silver Baker's twine, Dimensionals
