Easter Egg Card made with a Napkin

 Sometimes one finds a good buy in the Dollar store.  I was shopping there yesterday and picked up two different Easter napkins - an Egg shaped one, and a bunny (head) one. Of course I purchased one of each with the intention of making them into cards.

I used the Egg napkin first.

The card is 6 1/4 by 4 3/4

I added the napkin to an 8 1/2 by 11" piece of Basic White cardstock that I had prepared with Mod Podge. Once the Mod Podge was dry I ironed the napkin adhering it to the cardstock.  I also ironed on the strip of flowers from a second napkin and ironed them to the card stock.  These flowers were then fussy cut, sponged and added to the flowers on the Egg shaped card. After they were adhered to the card front, I added Crystal Effects to each flower and sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds on them.  Some Lilac pearl was added to the centers.

I sponged the edges of the Egg Shaped card with Gorgeous Grape ink.

The sentiment is from a retired stamp set "Easter Promise"

The Bunny is from "Easter Bunny"

The sentiment and the Bunny are both added to the card front using dimensionals.

On the inside, I die cut a fancy oval die (?name) and added an Easter sticker of 2 bunnies.

The sentiment on the inside is from "Springtime Joy"

Spring flower, the Crocus - The Paper Players #482

Like a lot of people I am anxious for spring to arrive.  In anticipation for the warmer months ahead, I have planted my bulbs in pots indoors and started my Marigold seeds.  It looks like they're as anxious as I am for Spring, as the bulbs are already sticking their heads above the ground, and the Marigold seeds are sprouting. As well  I have nurtured about 70 geranium plants, some of which are now blooming.

One of the flowers I look forward to seeing every spring is the crocus.  Just when you think winter will never lose its grip, this brave little flower pushes through the snow to put on a very colourful show - usually mid March.  These 2" to 4" tall Dutch bulbs bloom in colours of pink, red, purple, yellow, blue and orange.  I must admit I have only seen the purple and yellow ones.

For this week's clean and simple spring flower themed challenge with The Paper Players, I chose to highlight the crocus, a flower featured on one of the Easter stamps "Easter Promise". 

The crocus is stamped and coloured surrounded by the embossed image of the largest of the Sweetly stitched die.  This embossed image is created using Embossing mats and the Big Shot.

 Stampin' Blends are used to colour the image, using both light and dark Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green.  To intensify the colour, some Seaside Spray is lightly washed around the flower.

1/4" Whisper White crumpled seam binding is coloured with a Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend, make into a bow and added to the flower stems with a glue dot.

The sentiment, from "Fable Friends' is die cut with an Ornate die that resembles a tag and is added with a dimensional from the card front near the bow.

To finish the card, some Shimmering Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds is added to the flowers, and yellow self adhesive sequins are added randomly around the flower.

Easter Greetings - Fab Friday #183

This Easter themed card is for the sketch challenge with Fab Friday # 183. 

I love the size of the Easter sentiment with the stamp set "Easter Promise" and because of that I made it the focal point of this card.

I die cut it with the layering circle die and matted it with some DSP before adding it to the card front with dimensionals. Then I punched 3 small flowers, sponged and shaped them, applied Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds, and when they were dry I added them around the sentiment. A Leaf sprig was added to each bloom.

The card base is Calypso Coral, layered with Whisper White and then Bird Ballad DSP.  Two small notched strips of card stock, one in Mossy Meadow and one in Calypso Coral were adhered horizontally to the card front and the focal image was adhered over them.

Pop Up Easter Flower Card - a partial case

I came up with this idea from Jan Brown, a UK demonstrator, so the basic design is her's, but the choice of stamp, colours and paper is mine.

I knew I wanted to make an Easter card, but initially had difficulty choosing some DSP, until I reviewed the Bird Ballad DSP.  The pale pastel colours with Daffodil Delight highlights was perfect for what I had in mind.

The front of the card looks like an ordinary A2 card, but the surprise comes when the card is opened!
Out pops a flower pot containing some lovely yellow crocuses!

The flower pot is made by taking a 1 3/4 by 8" strip of Daffodil Delight card stock, scoring it at 2, 4, and 6" then embossing it with the Basket Weave embossing folder.  Adhesive is added to the right side of the end panels which are then added to the inside of the card  with the edges right against the card fold line.

But, I'm ahead of myself.

The base card is Daffodil Delight, with the front, and two inner sides decorated with identical pieces of Bird Ballad DSP layered with Whisper White card stock. I debated about changing the DSP pattern for the inside, but decided to keep thepattern the same as the front.

The front - on top of the DSP, an oval circle, embossed with the Basket Weave embossing folder, is added to the center.  Using dimensionals, the Easter sentiment, from "Welcome Easter" is die cut . with the Petals Label Die.  An extra coloured crocus flower, snipped off the bouquet, was tucked underneath this die cut and a bird, fussy cut from the DSP, was added just below it.  Then I added a bow made with ruched Daffodil Delight ribbon below the sentiment, and 3 Champagne rhinestones.

Back to the Inside:
After adding the flower pot pop up, and making sure the card closed and opened smoothly, two crocus bunches were added to the pot.  These were coloured with Stampin' Blends and fussy cut as there are no dies for this image.
On the pot  itself I added the coloured image of a field of Crocuses which I cut in half.  Each half was adhered so that the edges of the middle cut line met at the fold line.

After filling the pot, I did a quick check by opening and closing the card to ensure that no parts of the flowers extended from inside of the card.

Although Jan added some butterflies to each of the upper inner corners, I decided no further embellishments were needed.

Reverse Eclipse Technique in an Embossed Frame

A major winter storm is blasting southern Ontario.  It is expected to dump a significant amount of snow accompanied by high winds and sub zero temperatures.  BRRRRR! It's not as bad as in Newfoundland where 70 cm of snow was dumped yesterday.

So what do Canadians do with weather forecasts like that?  Why craft of course!  And think of Spring!  And combine thinking of spring and crafting. And nothing speaks of Spring like the crocus, a bulb flower which is one of the first to emerge from the snowy ground- usually in March.

For this card I decided to do something different.  Not only did I do the reverse Eclipse technique, I also used the Embossing mats and the largest of the rectangle  Stitched So Sweetly Die to create an embossed frame around the image.

The card base for this card is Thick Whisper White which is layered with some Highland Heather DSP from the Subtles DSP stack.

The crocus from the stamp set "Easter Promise" is stamped in the middle of the layering piece of Whisper White card stock and coloured with Highland Heather and Old Olive Stampin' Blends. To make the flowers pop I coloured around them with a Petal Pink Stampin' blend. This coloured image was die cut with one of the window like shapes of the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and set aside.

The largest of the rectangle dies was centered around the die cut opening on the Whisper White piece and embossed using the Stampin' Up embossing mats. Using strips of foam adhesive tape, this Whisper White piece was then adhered to the card front on top of the DSP.  The die cut was then placed into the die cut opening and  adhered to the DSP of the card front. 

The sentiment, from Teeny Tiny Wishes , was punched with the Classical Label punch, layered with Highland Heather card stock and added to the card front just under the flower.  A bow made with the retired Highland Heather Organza ribbon was adhered below the die cut.  Some rhinestones from the Noble Peacock collection finished the card.
